I’m in! Fourth Ludum Dare Compo!

Ludum Dare 31 will be my fourth time participating!  Woo hoo!

Here’s my current development tools layout:

Engine: Crafty.js

Graphics: Photoshop and Pickle

Audio: Probably Bfxr. Maybe Garage Band.

Source Control: BitBucket

This is also my first post. I’m hoping my user profile and games list will appear after posting.

Hey ho, let’s go!

Not sure yet what engine I’m gonna use, but it will probably use HTML 5, so:

  • Language: Javascript
  • Graphics: Inkscape
  • Music: lmms

Cheers!

I’m in

I’m in for my first time. I will be using:

  • Dart language with krentile, my own tile rendering engine, that was making last month, as code base.
  • Gimp for the graphics.
  • And something that don’t know yet for the sound.

Good luck to everybody!

Finally for the First Time, I’m In!

After so many times of watching Ludum Dare entries (and logging in to see I missed a Compo by a week), I finally get the chance to enter one!

I’ll be using:

  • Coding/Engine:
    • Game Maker 7 (Mac Edition) or Unity 4.3 Free (can’t decide yet)
  • 2D Graphics:
    • Adobe Photoshop
    • Adobe Illustrator
    • Autodesk Sketchbook Pro (maybe)
    • My trusty Wacom Bamboo tablet
  • Music/Audio:
    • GarageBand
    • Audacity
  • 3D Modeling:
    • Ha! Nope.
    • (ok maybe, MAYBE Cinema 4D)

Super excited to see what everyone can come up with, Good Luck to all!

IN

If I haven’t already and forgot (possible) I guess I’d best announce it.

I AM IN.

Will use:

  • Haxeflixel
  • Flashdevelop
  • GraphicsGale
  • Gimp
  • Fruity Loops
  • Bfxr
  • Ogmo Editor

I’ve been playing with Ogmo Editor a bit and have found a way to use it. So I’m looking to possibly use it in this next jam. What? Write the level editor yourself? DURING the jam? PFFFFFFFFFFFFFT ha ha ha are you CRAZY?!

I’m in.

This is my first Ludum Dare; I nearly participated in LD30, but was traveling at the time and decided not to.

My tools:

Engine/Language

  • Unity

Graphics

  • Photoshop
  • Blender

Audio

  • SFXR
  • Audacity

Let’s do this thing!

Have to make up for a pitiful failure at the last LD. So in masochistic fashion I will be soloing for the 48hr Jam instead of the compo!

Engine

  • Unity 4.6 Pro OR Construct 2

Other Tools

  • Photoshop CC2014 for graphics
  • Reaper DAW for music (if there’s time)
  • Bfxr for SFX, of course
  • Audition CC2014 for mixing and mastering SFX
  • OBS to stream and capture time lapse

I think the keys to my success this time around will be more accessible because I am going solo. The past 3 LDs have been fun with the studio as a team – but frankly, it provided far too much scope creep and due to that we’ve failed to compete in the last two!

I’m planning on streaming for the duration of the event, which you can catch at http://twitch.tv/thoughtreactor. Until the time comes to jam – good luck to all my fellow game jammers!

I’m in

I am going to go in again for my 3rd LD. Seems everytime I go to do a LD these days I have lots going on. This time LD falls in between changing job, means I don’t get the full 48 hours as I have to do hand over stuff for my old job.

Anyhow my setup with be the following:

Engine: Unity3d Pro 4.6/5.0 Beta (not sure which one yet).

BuildAll Plugin – Custom plugin I have written to make building to multiple build targets (sorry only works in pro).

Graphics: Photoshop

Sound: BFXR/Adobe Audition

Music: FL Studio

Source Control: Git and uploaded to GitHUB

Screen Timelapse Capture: ChronoLapse

MiniLD: Quest for LDJAM finished!

cover_black

Finished my MiniLD entry! Spent way too much time over technical details and got myself a nice segfault bug just before release, but I ended up being able to include the battle
mode and a proper level up system.

In this game, you have to confront blobs who’s got all your necessary items for a successful Ludum dare, but you don’t have any kind of weapon with you. Instead, you drop rocks in front of them so you can capture them to get back your items.

Now it’s time to get ready for the real deal :)

Bit.Saw – An Indie Rage Puzzle Platformer by Shubshub [Non-LD Game]

A Game that I made a couple of weeks ago, It costs an easy $1.00 USD and from the people that have played it I have been told they had fun playing it.

If you would like to check it out you can find the link here: [Click Here]

I Would be very happy if you could just check it out and if you like it consider purchasing it!

I hope to bring many more great games in the future

Sounds: Will also be taken from OpenGameArt.org

Little Tips For You 1st Ludum Darers

Just have some little tips for you 1st Ludum Darers I want to share.

Making Your Game

*If you don’t finish making a game, DON’T WORRY because you’re not alone and it’s only your first.

*GAMEPLAY is what’s important! Yes, good Graphics are nice, good Music is nice as well. When people are having fun playing a game, they’re having fun because the gameplay itself is fun. Graphics, Music, and other things definitely help, but when you have 48-72 hours to create something… Shoot for the gameplay, work on the mechanics for the game first. Make all the Graphics rectangles, and forget about the sound for now. You don’t even need to turn in your entry with a title screen, splash screen, or whatever. On the last day you can change the graphics, but earlier on just focus on the gameplay.

*THEME isn’t as important as you think it is (although it is still important). If you can think of a game idea revolving around the theme in an hour or two, awesome, if you can’t than just start making a game and then later you can incorporate the theme. Let’s say the theme sucks (in your opinion), and you can’t think of anything, just start making an endless runner (for example) and then when you find out how to incorporate the theme incorporate it.

Post Compo/Jam

*If you haven’t finished your game (which is probably the case), try to finish/polish it even though your entry is already in. Add the link to the Post Compo/Jam version of your game along with the 48/72 hr version so people can play both of them. Not only does it make you feel better about yourself, but it can also persuade people to possibly give you better ratings based on your Post Compo/Jam version.

*RATE GAMES! Rate as many games as possible, along with comments. The more games you rate, the more times your game shows up on the front page. Comments help as well because some people will look at their comments and click your name to see your game. If you can rate more than about 250 games your game may show up on the Most Coolness page which would be awesome (but it’s very difficult to do). If you don’t rate any games then just about no one will see your game, so RATE GAMES!

Good Luck to Everyone Participating in LD 31!

I’m in again

Oh my, it’s time for another Ludum Dare! This is my sixth time and I have really enjoyed learning more and more about programming and game development every time I participate!

Java!

Paint.NET & Gimp!!

Audacity & maybe Anvil Studio? & evosfxr !!!

Hopefully this time I won’t have to scrap everything and restart half way through!

Fisrt Ludum Dare

This will be my first Ludum Dare.

IDE: Eclipse

Language: Java

Graphics: Paint.NET

Probably no audio, so I can focus on graphics and game play.

Throughout the week I will be creating various game engines until I get to collision with a moving box.

Wish me luck!

MiniLD Finished? Sure it is, let’s go with that.

So I got busy and ran out of time to work on the actual game, but I’ve submitted my MiniLD entry: a simple 2-button RPG with basically no gameplay. Cool things about it? The game logic is done completely in my personal scripting language. So that means preparation happened, yay! I managed to add some much needed features to the language while I was writing the game so I’m about 20% coo- uh, more prepared for Ludum Dare when it rolls around the corner.

Any sound is better than no sound!

jfxrI’m seeing some “I’m in” posts saying stuff like “I won’t do sound because there won’t be time.” That’s silly: a game with primitive sound effects is much more engaging and immersive than a game that’s entirely silent.

For those people, here’s how to add sound to your game in literally one minute:

  • Go to jfrx.frozenfractal.com (Firefox or Chrome; sorry, no Safari or IE).
  • Choose a preset button on the left and click it until you get a sound you like.
  • Click Export and save it.

So I don’t want to see any mute games this time! No excuses!

Disclaimer: I wrote JFXR :) If you have any bug reports or feature requests and file them in the issue tracker this week, there’s a chance I’ll get them done before the compo. Also, feel free to comment on existing reports so I can gauge interest.
