MiniLD #55 – Boom Boom Boom Big Bug Fix!

After developing the whole night (coffee is your friend) and sleeping for some hours (it’s 2pm here in Europe), I just realized that our game was unplayable when you start it the very first time. Luckily it’s “just” a MiniLD and submitting is still allowed.

I think we learned a lot – we’ve never done a game so fast!

Hopefully you give it a second chance: Boom Boom Boom

Screen3

I’m in.

I’m in for my fourth time. From my experience, I can say that Ludum Dare is all about quality, not quantity. Ludum Dare entry should be completed in 10 minutes, and that’s maximum.  Only entries with unique mechanics (Superdimensional is my favorite Ludum Dare game of all time), or unbelievably amazing graphics can be noticed. So, this week I will try to improve my graphics making skills (I believe you can learn how to do unique game mechanics only with time (not one week :) ) )

Themes also looking very promising (Isolation is my favorite), and new page design is much more better than old one. I probably missed something, but why people create so many Ludum Dare backgrounds (I love them all)?

Tools I will be using:

1) Unity3D 4.5.5

2) Blender (if I decide to make 3D game)

3) Photoshop CS6

4) Ableton Live 9 (I am not very skilled at making music, but what I make is better than random generated music)

5)Free Countdown Timer (To watch every second I wasted watching to timer)

Good luck to all of you!

I’m in

This is my third LD and last time I tried 3D, but did not get far since I worked on a 3D assets loader.

Therefore, I’ll make a 2D game this time, but I’ll try to get revenge for the last time :)

Will use http://www.piston.rs/ , as usual.

I’m in for my second LD!

Hi folks,

Following the great time I had taking part in my first ever Ludum Dare, LD30, and the relative success of my game Harmony (in which I just came shy of the top 25% overall for compo entries) I have decided to return once more!

Doing things differently

Unlike last time, in which I was working from home, I will be joining my University’s game development society for the weekend. This should prove a great way to keep focused on development, even though I still plan on entering the compo and not the jam.

Given feedback from my last entry (and the fact I’ve not done a huge amount of development work between now and then) I’m going to try and steer clear of a mouse based interface this time around. My entry in the last LD suffered heavily from a badly planned UI and until I can put some time in learning how to make Unity user-interfaces properly I’m going to try and avoid it.

What I’ll be using

  • The ever popular Unity with MonoDevelop. I probably should learn another engine at some point…
  • PyxelEdit & Paint.NET
  • If I decide to go 3D (which I probably won’t), Blender
  • Sound continues to be my weak spot, so sfxr or similar, no idea for music.
  • Google, lots and lots of Google

As ‘sound’ was the worst rated category of my previous game (excluding humour, it was not intended to be a funny game) I need to ask for a few suggestions. I have no functioning knowledge of musical composition (however, a basic grasp of keyboard, even though I lack said keyboard at the current time) and my knowledge of sound generation for sfx etc is similarly non-existant. What can I do to increase my chances of getting a decent sound score, given my lack of ability in this area?

I think you’ll find that most devs who participate in the compo also have a hard time with the audio category. Often times sound is left out completely, that means even mediocre sound in your game would give you a boost in that category. Proof: My last game merely had a drone sound in the background and a jump/fall noise and it placed #174 in sound. What I would suggest if you have no experience with music creation software, such as fl studio, would be to fire up audacity and record sounds using a microphone (or line-in on your keyboard if you can do that). If you play keyboard then consider record that. Even just a simple chord progression (You can find the notes for these online if you are that desperate) would work for background music. Sound effects for clicking buttons or jumping or firing or dying or anything else could be single notes, or a noise you make by tapping something on your desk, be creative.

Not sure about rules – 3rd party library

Could someone please clarify this rule:

Everything required to make the source work should be available publicly. If 3rd party libraries and tools are required, free or paid, that’s fine. If you’re using an internal library, to participate in the Compo, you will be required to share it.

I’m using a free engine (Unity), but I’ve bought a 3rd party plugin from the asset store. The 3rd party plugin is in the form of the source code, plainly visible upon opening appropriate files. Sharing it by submiting complete source would break EULA.

If I want to participate in LD-compo, would I have to submit that paid library source, or is the only important thing that the library is publicly available (even though not for free).

Do I have to state such libraries on my “I’m in” post?

Thanks for clarification.

I’m in for compo #2

This will be my second LD Compo I will be part of, pretty excited, my last game turned out alright, it was fun, but lacked in the art department and there were quite a few things that could have been done better. Anyway here are the tools I plan to use:

Game Engine:
Depends on theme and game idea but between
Unity
Game Maker Studio ( <  Probably this one because it’s super fast to get something working )

Art Tools:
Photoshop
Google

Music and Sound FX Tools:
BFXR / SFXR
Stock Music
Google

Good luck all and have fun!

Spider Solitaire game is card game .which is very compulsive in playing .if you really want to consume your free time in a right way then go on which makes your time very engaging.

I’m doing the dare!

Hi guys,

I’m going to attempt Ludum Dare once more.

My weapons of choice are:

  • Language: Java
  • IDE: Eclipse
  • Framework/Lib: libGDX.
  • Art: Krita
  • Music: LMMS
  • SFX: bfxr and Audacity.

Good luck to everybody and I’m looking forward to play your games!

I’m In!!!

Ok, here it is, my first jam. I finally decided to join. Hope to bring a good first impression. Any good advise or idea? Any good lead for a good and fair base code or tool I should be looking up?

Why I’m not going to write the traditional “I’m in!” post this time

I told you I’m going to write the most epic “I’m in!” post ever! But I didn’t. Now I’m going to tell you why.

I did actually write a few pages of awesome text: it contained references to all the movies and video games ever made. In addition to that, my text also revealed the meaning of life (hint: it begins with L and has two words). The text I had written was perfect, it had no grammar or typing errors; it was so perfect it made every other text in the world meaningless.

So why I didn’t released it? Because it was too intelligent. Had I released the text, the old world order would have collapsed and the results would have been something unspeakable: the Third World War. My unreleased post had a formula of the most powerful biological weapon in the world (also known as “onion soup”).

So now you understand why I never released my “I’m in!” post. And I’m not going to write another post, because it would cause something even more horrible: all the Beams would be destroyed and the Dark Tower would collapse! And that would be even worse than World War III.

Anyway, I’m still going to use Xubuntu (OS); Eclipse (IDE); Pinta, GIMP and Inkscape (graphics); bfxr, buttonbass.com tools and AudaCity (audio and music); Javascript and Html5 without frameworks or engines (language/engine) and howler.js and Game Jolt API for Javascript (libraries). That’s what I did in the previous Ludum Dare and that’s what I’m going to do now.

_________________________________________________________________________

This is what really happened:

I played too much LoadOut and Super Smash Bros. for 3DS so I forgot to write the whole text.

_________________________________________________________________________

I didn’t know I can use colours in my text. Yay!

In!

I’m in! My first attempt using Phaser, as I’m fed up of having to package OS-dependent releases for a 48 hour competition.

Good luck everyone.

HTML5 tools?

I’ll probably participate again this time, but I’m not sure what tools to use.

I’ve been using a lot of HTML5/JS/CSS lately (for other purposes) and I’m inclined to use it to make a game.

I’m thinking about using Three.js if it’s 3D or develop my own codebase for a 2D game.

Which tools do you know or used to make games in HTML5?

Some “I’m in” title here

Hi guys !

I’m Lo-X, I’m a french programmer that try to make some small video games on my free time, when I have some :p

This LD will be my fourth one, but I managed to finish only two games in previous Ludum Dares. I’m mostly here for fun. Each jam I try to improve one aspect of my games. The first time I managed to add networking, then came some scripting. This time I’ll try to improve the audio. I usually use sfxr and autotracker.py to auto-generate and then tune the audio art, but this time I’ll try to make some mixes with existing base tracks. I’ll perhaps record some stuff too, as I have some instruments or things that do sounds at my disposal.

I’ll use C++ and SFML, wich is a great library built on top of OpenGL. You can find more information about it on SFML website.

I’ll also use my own “framework”, just a bunch of tools using SFML in C++. It’s not complete yet , but never will be. Anyone who wants to use it is welcome to do so. Here is the GitHub link. You can checkout some of my games or other tools/libs on my GitHub account.

Good luck to everyone !

Let’s go!

I’m in position!

  • Language -> Java
  • IDE -> Eclipse/IntelliJ (Couldn’t decide yet)
  • Framework -> libgdx
  • Graphics -> inkscape + spriter
  • Sound Effects -> sfxr/bfxr
  • Music -> randommusicgenerator + famicon set

I’m IN!

For the first time I am in! I have previously participated in one other game jam but unfortunately missed all Ludum Dares. Starting to get properly exited now!

I will work alone and use:
Engine: Unity
Language: C#
Art: Paint.net and Blender or Inkscape
Sound: Lmms, Audacity possibly also sfxr or famitracker

The themes look really promising, lets create some good games next weekend!

I’m in!

Hi,

This is gonna be my first LD and maybe (hopefully) my first released game! 😀

My tools will be:

Sound:
– BFXR
– Audacity

Graphics:
– The Gimp and GraphicsGale for pixel art.

For developing:

I will be developing on Linux using my C++11 code-base (which uses SFML which is a thin layer around low level graphics, audio and input) and Eclipse-CDT.

Hope this will be so much fun!

I’m in

My first LD so I’m unreasonably optimistic. Tools I will use:

  • Godot as an engine
  • GIMP
  • Blender

Absolute lack of ability working with sound so thats going to be interesting.

So, I’m in (Or I will try my best at least :P)

We’re in!

Hi guys! 😀

This coming weekend will be our very first Ludum Dare :), We’re just 2 guys working things out, and also joining as many jams as possible so we can interact with many fellow game developers, and also learn more great things. 😀

We’re so excited not only because this is our very first Ludum Dare but also because for sure we’ll meet more fellow developers which is for sure alot of fun! 😀

Hoping to do great and learn more things at this coming Ludum Dare, see ya guys! 😀

Here are the tools that we’re planning to use:

Engine:
– Unity

Graphics:
– Photoshop
– Blender

Sounds:
– Audacity

I’m into the jam, guys!

So…that’s my first game jam ever. I’m graduating now and I’m very, very excited about Game Dev. Here goes the softwares I’ll probably use:

Sound:
Linux Multimedia Studio(LMMS)

Graphics(I’ll try something with):
Blender 2.72

GIMP

GE(Game Engine):
Unity free version

Scripting:

Notepad++

Documentation:
LibreOffice

Aaaaand I’m want to group up with everyone of any gamedev area. Together we do more and better!
My aim area is Game Design, but I can also try any other area if someone team up with me :3
This is it, GL HF!
