LD31 December 5–8, 2014

I’m in again but this time in 2-man team

This will be my 5th time at Ludum Dare and this time i am going to group up with a friend who is also a coder (@XekeDeath).

So expect a lot of amazing programmer art 😛

Tools i will be using are as usual:

  • Unity 3D (4.6 Pro)
  • Photoshop CS
  • Cinema 4D
  • Visual Studio 2013 Community

I also will be livestreaming it again over at twitch.tv/seriouscreeper

Good luck and have fun!

I’m in!

First time in the competition, and I’m not sure what to expect. I’ve been made some small games, but never tried anything like this compo.

What I will be using:

  • Language: C/C++
  • Library: Allegro 5
  • Graphics: Gimp and Inkscape
  • Sound: sfxr and Audacity

I probably will try a simple approach, with pixelated graphics and square wave sfx.

Good luck, everyone!

Fonts I will be using

Made an “I’m in” post a while ago, but here is a last minute update. I’ve decided on the fonts I will be using:

  • Ubuntu-R
  • Wargames
  • DejaVu Sans (need that unicode ;O)

To the best of my knowledge, all of these fonts are free to distribute :)

Ready to jam

Tools using:

  • Multimedia Fusion 2.5
  • Paint.NET
  • BFXR/SFXR/JFXR or whatever’s the hippest
  • Windows 7 & Mac OS
  • OUR LIGHTNING FAST WITS

That’s all. Good luck everyone

Ready to Compo!

I’m going to try making a small in scope but ambitious mobile and web game. I plan to use Unity and publish to Android. Let’s see how well I can scope things out!

Let’s Dare.

I haven’t participated in a while but have nothing major going on this weekend. So long as the theme isn’t terrible… I’ll be throwing something together over the next couple of days.

Tools to use…

  • Flash Professional CC [animated content, sprites]
  • Photoshop CC [static content]
  • Reason 8 / Sonar X3 / Audition CC
  • Either Phaser or some AS3 framework like Starling/Citrus. This all depends upon ideas for the game – and the theme.
  • IntelliJ IDEA [IDE for either the AS3 or JS]

prep

Let’s Dare.

First time LD, Freed up the weekend

My environment will be html5

Toolset:  Impact JS

Photoshop

BFXR

At a real world gathering for LD31 in Victoria, Canada

Never Mind

I recently (couple minutes ago) thought that I would be working on the 3D models for a game that a dev team would be working on, but they have assembled their own team of artistand now it looks like I am once again alone with my intermediate skills as a coder in C#.

I’m in!

First time doing the Ludum Dare, going to be doing the Jam o/

First time here as well. It’s very exciting, isn’t it?

I’m in too!

This is mine firs time participating.
My main goal is to finish something.
I’ll be using Eclipse, Java and libGdx.

Good luck to us all.

First time in

Let’s give this a go, shall we? First time doing a game jam, though I’m teaming up with an artist friend who’s done a few of them. Good luck everyone!

Programming – Unity 4.6
Art- Photoshop CC
Music- FL Studio? Maybe?
Sounds- Probably Audacity or something

I’m in

This is my 11th Ludum Dare.

My tools will be C++ and SFML this time I think.

I’ll be streaming too if you’d like to stop by and say hi: http://www.twitch.tv/ekunuke

I’m in

I’m so hyped

We’re In For The Jam!

Who:

  • Me (Linear)
  • Aurel (Aurelinator)
  • Michael (from reddit)

Together we’re Dying Ember Productions.

What:

  • Unity Pro
  • Lightwave 11.6
  • Reason 6
  • GIMP
  • Photoshop CC
  • Pixexix
  • Digital Camera (for gathering base textures)
  • SpeedTree (maybe)

Wish us luck.

And pray to ThemeGod that the theme isn’t something abominable…

I’m in!

First actual LD entry!

Juggling the demands of wife and two boys and mother-in-law, I’m going to be building a game, probably not able to take advantage of the full 48 hours non-stop.  I’m going to go simple, and not ambitious – whatever is the easiest and highest chance to complete.

  • Java
  • libgdx
  • IntelliJ on Linux
  • Developing for Windows, Linux, and maybe even Android!  All hail #Libgdx!
  • Tiled
  • Spine

Obligatory notice that I am in.

I’m in!  I don’t think I’ve written a single line of code since LD30 – I’m teaching math this year instead of programming, so the opportunities have been scarce.  Nonetheless, I’m in and I’m ready to make something amazing!  Last time I managed to surprise myself and break into a top 50 list for the first time – for Innovative.  My Fun score was way low though, so my goal for LD31 is to make something that people think is fun!

I’ll be going with JavaScript again, for the 2nd time now.  I think it went really well last time – much more accessible to those who want to play than Python, and there’s not much overhead on my end either.  Other tools will probably include… Notepad++, Paint, GIMP, bfxr… and that’s about it I suspect.  Also energy drinks.

Good luck all, and may the ☃ be with you.

Great choice! If I like the theme and join in, I will use pretty much the same set – except GIMP, I hate it. I would recommend Tile Studio and/or Graphics Gale. Obligatory good luck!

I’ve been using GIMP for years and years and years, and totally love it. To each their own though!

Last minute I’m in!

Hi all! I have a real quick run through of my tools for you.

Engine: Unity3d

Language: C#

IDE: MonoDevelop

Graphics: Paint.NET

3D stuffs: Blendr

Sound: SFXR

Planning: Pen+paper

Good luck all! And may the ☃ be ever in your favor!

Lessons learned from last time

I made some notes, mostly from the last Ludum Dare, LD30.

I am posting them in case they happen to help me, or anyone else, this time around!

  1. Make sure your music-creation tool of choice works a few days before the jam.  I probably wasted an hour or two getting everything figured out with Music Creator 6 / Sonar X3 last time.
  2. If possible, break your game idea into individual feature sets.   This way if you only have time to finish a few features, or one stage of the game, it can still be a complete, though small, game.
  3. Think about whether certain assets can be used in multiple places to save time.  Maybe a background, obstacle, or sound effect from one level can be used in another!
  4. I used master volume = 22 on my computer to balance sounds.
  5. To amplify my voiceover recording to a reasonable level, I used 10dB gain in Audacity.
  6. On my system, Sonar X3 will not use the best low-latency settings with the WDM/KS driver mode unless I close other audio applications first.  This even includes Firefox.  After I launch Sonar X3 I can then relaunch web browers, but I cannot play sound with other applications until quitting Sonar X3.
  7. In Sonar X3, occasionally the sound would get raspy like it is clipping or the latency is too low.  Choosing a higher latency may help, but there seems to be a better solution:  Pressing play, then stop in the controls at the top seems to usually fix this.
  8. A game that is too easy is probably better than a game that is too hard.  People can see a whole game if it is easy enough, and with thousands of games, odds of someone playing all the way through are small otherwise.
  9. For flash games, add some space above the flash object on the HTML page so it is not jammed next to the title bar.
