LD31: I’m In

Hey All,

I’ll be doing the jam this time around. I’m really excited about this weekend. You can just feel all the energy flying around – it’s pretty awesome.

As for what I’ll  be using, it’s looking like:

Unity3D, Sublime Text 3, MonoDevelop, GIMP, Audacity, Blender, 3DS Max

If I do any multiplayer or online stuff (keeping it really simple, of course), I might use UnityHTTP and use that to talk to a small node server somewhere. I’ll have to timebox this, since I might not be fully aware of all the unknowns involved here.

I’ll probably stick to the conventional PC/Mac/Linux build target, although I might entertain the thought of Android / iOS builds, if there’s sufficient interest.

Nice selection of themes this time – should be fun!

I’m in

I’m going to be competing this time, and streaming it here and then going to be uploading it to my channel over at HoardFilms on Youtube, please come and join me at either of these and good luck to all (:

Haskell Basecode

Yo, I’ll try and do the compo in Haskell using the Graphics.Gloss and HTiled libraries. Because they are essentially not compatible at all, I had to create some terribly hacky glue code, which you’re free to inspect under https://bitbucket.org/safod/ludumdare31 . There is also some additional basecode, but it’s all very basic – I’ll have to implement almost everything from scratch, and I don’t even know yet how I’m going to play sounds!

Fair warning: the basecode relies on scripts for the Fish shell, the arcane imagemagick syntax, duct tape, regular expressions, the internal workings of both libraries, and prayer.
Still better than not having tiled maps though!

Good luck to everyone!

A Flicker of Light in the Darkness

So Ludum Dare 31 has kicked off and I’m excited to see what we can pull off :) Things are heating up over here~ First time I did Ludum I flew solo and it resulted in a horrible first game but, a game nonetheless. Couldn’t finish the mini-jam theme about sharks a while back, so hopefully this will be my second successful dare.

This time I’m working in a team and am excited. Our concept so far is a little firelight that uses a “blink” like ability to illuminate a small circle of light around them. My sketches so far are of genie like characters and mustached flames. I’m not sure if we’re going to make it a single screen going vertically or not. Our team leader says he drew inspiration from “Unfinished Swan” so we’ll see where this goes :D Goodnight for now!

Let’s do this!

First time actually dedicating to one of these, previous plans fell apart the last two times.

I normally work with a team of three other dudes but it’s just me handling everything for this jam, might get a few illustrations from team members if their study schedule allows it.

Using LibGDX, PyxelEdit/GIMP for art, Renoise and the YMCK Magical 8-bit Plug for music, and Bfxr for effects.

Good luck, everyone!

I’m in, yo.

This will be my first time participating, I will be using the following Items; Game Maker 8.1, Paint.net and bfxr.

First LD – My Gear

Hello all.

Here’s my list of LD31 gear:

  1. Unity3D
  2. GIMP/Paintbrush
  3. MonoDevelop

I also have a stock pile of vinyl, accompanied by Spotify.

I am in

This will be my first time, wish me luck 😀

Somnambulism

I’ll be joining in. Although I have a busy weekend and a life. However I can steal away the wee hours and put something together. It will be fun! Like a walking through a dream.

I might do this in SDL2/PhysFS/C as I’m rather familiar with the APIs these days. However I’ve wanted to do something in HTML5/JS for a while because it makes sharing so dang easy. I just wish the gamepad and audio support were there (soon!). But if I’m honest with myself I will probably just use Unity so I don’t have to bother with coding all of the plumbing, managing assets, etc.

Whatever makes life easier, right?

The rest:

  • Pixelmater
  • Pixen
  • Tiled
  • Autotilegen
  • sfxr
  • Renoise

Main screen image

I did it....

There, I did it. Entire game on one screen. project finished!

Just Kidding! This is the screen for my game. The whole cyan part will just be a viewport into the games that you will play to beat this lil game.

It’s sort of reminiscent of my child hood (and probably many other devver’s child hoods) where I would look at a small screen and play video games for as long as I was allowed to (by my parents).

More coming! >.<

Here goes…something

Hi, I’ll try to make something as well – hopefully the theme will be good.

Tools of my choice: HTML5, Notepad++, Tile Studio, Graphics Gale, Sfxr

Good luck to all!
