LD32 April 17–20, 2015

Oh, I dare.

After a less-than-successful attempt for the last Ludum Dare, I’m going to dare to enter again this time. Gonna do the compo, because hopefully it’ll help me to keep my scope manageable. That’s what I’m hoping to do that’s new this time: keep my game tiny and manageable. TINY!

My toolkit:

Good luck to everyone! Make nice games!

So, I think I’ll be in

It will be my first LD.

I joined MiniLD #58 and I have been very happy of being part of the jam. It was a nice experience for me, from may points of view.
My first concern is about time – MiniLD has more time. I’ve submitted the game after 3 days, but now this limit is enforced… so I’m a bit worried about it.

Anyway, I’ll go for a web based game and I will probably use:

– Text editor: Notepad++
– Graphics: GIMP, Inkscape
– Framework: Phaser
– Audio: Audacity

Happy jamming to everyone!

Hi! Hola!

Hello,

I´m Spanish, master in the English language as the ancient inhabitants of the mountains of Toledo spoke it thousands of aeons ago (*) and, worst of all, this is my first time on LD (well, I experienced GGJ on my battered and old body this year, but only as a musician; nothing to do with this  new challenge at all).

Treat me right, please!

Good luck to everyone!

Jorge

(*) The best excuse I´ve found

Daring To Enter!

I’m an old timer who should probably know better than to enter, but am eager to see what I can do when I’m pushed to.

My idea is to create an ever-changing text based game (with a plot that fits the theme) in which players have to choose wisely or think and act quickly.

I’m using tools not intended for the type of game I’ll be creating, so here is hoping I can make something!

  • Language: JavaScript
  • IDE: Brackets
  • Engine / Framework: Twine & Impress.JS
  • Graphics: PD Art or ASCII art
  • Audio: PD Midi?

(Everything is subject to change, relative to what the theme is and time constraints.)

Wish me luck!

Last night I thought I did all my planning, but this morning I realized I was being over-ambitious and hadn’t thought through the details well enough. So I redesigned and simplified the game, and now am finally working on the coding.

It Was Close, But I’m In for LD32

I’m in for my third stint at Ludum Dare.  There was a chance I would not have been able to do it this time around since my wife was in the hospital, but she was just released yesterday so I can go ahead and commit now.

My main goal is to improve on my performance from last time, which was not as good as my performance the first time.  I’ll be using Unity 5, Audacity, Blender, NeoTexEdit, sfxr/bfxr, and probably some other tools.

House PerspectiveI’ve also been hard at work at a sequel to my first Ludum Dare entry, Dehoarder.  Strangely enough, it is called Dehoarder 2, and it is very close to being in a state where I’d feel comfortable submitting it to Steam Greenlight.  As you can see here it goes well beyond the single-room cleanup that I implemented for LD26.  I should probably be working on that this weekend, but I am trying to make LD an annual thing for me.

Good luck, everyone!  I hope to start voting on a bunch of great games Sunday evening!

What game will it be?

“creatures from the night living on an abandoned place
on the edge of the world
hunting every day  the player and his companion”

or

“4 self-destruction growing element, spreading stars around if only one was taken”

feel free to add some more in the comments

Programming language: Java + Slick2D library

Sounds: I still dont know (probably fl studio)

Ps. Its totaly yolo becouse I have finished only one game in my life ;-;

I will stream at: twitch.tv/areandirpolska

Changing Codebase

Hi everyone!

I posted earlier that I was going to use Gdevelop but I’ve decided that will be my back up software.

Instead I will be coding with Lua and Love2D + Notepad++ and Paint.Net!

I will most likely make a point click adventure as I am coding the library for it now as I am doing the Jam.

I figure it would be good to start with something simple and work my way up in Love2d!

I also will be using my new wacom touch and pen tablet for drawing the scenes!

Hopefully I will draw good art!

I will be posting updates here and on Twitter @Swipefaststudio

Good Luck to all!

Happy Jamming!

You know, you just say that you will participate, and then make the game according to the rules, and then just publish it. It’ll explain itself when the competition is active.

Have fun!

Some Tips For You First Ludum Darers

Got some little tips for you 1st Ludum Darers I want to share. This will be my 6th LD, so these tips are just from my experience.

Making Your Game

*If you don’t finish making a game, DON’T WORRY because you’re not alone. Also remember, it’s only your first LD.

*GAMEPLAY is what’s important! Yes, good Graphics are nice, good Music is even nicer, but you want Gameplay. When people are having fun playing a game, they’re having fun because the gameplay itself is fun. Graphics, Music, and other things definitely improve your game, but you only have 48-72 hours to create something. Shoot for the gameplay, the first thing you want to do with your game is to create the core mechanics. Make all the Graphics rectangles, and forget about the Sound for now. You don’t even need to turn in your entry with a title screen, splash screen, whatever. Sure, on the last day you can change the graphics, but earlier on just focus on the Gameplay.

*THEME is important, but not as important as you think it is. If you can think of a game idea revolving around the theme in an hour or two, awesome, but if you can’t than just start making a game and then later on you can incorporate the theme. Let’s say the theme sucks (in your opinion), and you can’t think of anything, just start making a top-down shooter (for example) and then when you figure out a way to incorporate the theme, incorporate it.

Post Compo/Jam

*If you haven’t completely finished your game (which is probably the case), try to finish/polish it even though your entry is already in. When you’re done with that, add the link to the Post Compo/Jam version of your game next to the 48/72 hr version so that people can play both of them. Not only does it make you feel better about yourself, but it can also persuade some people to possibly give you better ratings based on your Post Compo/Jam version.

*RATE GAMES! Rate as many games as possible, and give everyone a comment. The more games you rate, the more times your game shows up on the front page. Comments help as well because some people will look at their comments and click on your name to see your game. If you can rate more than about 250 games (which is pretty difficult to do), your game may show up on the Most Coolness page which would be awesome because lots of people visit that page. If you don’t rate any games then just about no one will see your game, so RATE GAMES!

Good Luck to Everyone Participating in LD 32! I got a feeling this one will be great!

Thanks for that!

Really insightful for first timers like me

I’m In! – Part 3: Toolbox

Wish I hadn’t done this ‘I’m In’ in 3 parts now.

Okay, my tools are as follows:

  • Unity3D v5 – engine
  • Visual Studio 2012 – programming
  • Blender – 3D modelling
  • PaintShop Pro – textures, art, image editing
  • SAI PaintTool – digital painting
  • bfxr – sound effects (I think, may change)
  • GC Music + Bosca Ceoil + LMMS – music (I basically haven’t decided)
  • Wikidpad – notes
  • git – version control
  • Texture Packer – spritesheet editor

Hello game developers,

This will be my second Ludum Dare and I hope to actually finish the game and submit it this time :). I’ll be participating in the compo.

I will make the game in Actionscript3 for either Web or Desktop (or both).

The tools:

  • FlashDevelop, SDK: either Starling or Away3D depending on type of game, also some gamepad library as I really want to add gamepad support.
  • Flash CC for graphics, animation (if have time) and level design
  • Paint.net (maybe Gimp if I wanna go all advanced and stuff :P)
  • Audiotool for audio if I manage to get that far.
  • Dragonbones for animations IF I need to do any advanced one.

I’m alone with my 1y10m old son this weekend so I will “query” him for some inspiration :)), also the in-laws might lend a hand

Let’s jam people !!!

GoodLizard is IN for Ludum Dare 32!!

Here’s what I’ll be using:

LÖVE is an *awesome* framework you can use to make 2D games in Lua. It’s free, open-source, and works on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. — love2d.org

Bfxr

Bfxr is an elaboration of the glorious Sfxr, the program of choice for many people looking to make sound effects for computer games. — bfxr.net

It’s also possible that I’ll be making or using some procedurally generated music for the soundtracks in my game.

Good luck to everyone else working on a game!

Sincerely,
Good Lizard

In for the 4th time!

After a way too long hiatus I finally decided to do this again! I’ve successfully completed 3 LD48 games so far, here’s hoping that I won’t have too much trouble finishing one this time either. :)

I’ve used XNA for my previous games, but I’ve decided to try out something new. I’ll be making an HTML5 game using the canvas element and the related JavaScript APIs, so everyone with a modern browser will be able to try it out without downloading and installing additional software.

This is new territory for me, so I’m not sure yet what tools I’ll be using. I’ll probably write the code in either Notepad++ or Sublime Text and use Paint.NET and/or Inkscape for the graphics. I could probably add some sound effects as well, generated by bfxr or some similar tool. For hosting I think I’ll just set up a simple github.io page.

Anyway, I’m really excited to be back and do the compo again.

I wish you all luck with your games, I hope we’ll have loads of fun games to play and rate after this weekend is over. :)

I’m in it to win it

but not really.

Tools: Unity cause it’s the best.  Blenderino for modeling, Substance Suite for texturing (if I get that far, anyways) Sunvox for music. I missed LD the past two years, and I hope to come back with a vengeance.  Cheers to all and good luck.

I M IN R U?

Let’s do this!

I’ll be using Unity and Qubicle (assuming I’m rolling a 3D game). I’ve had fun dabbling with the sfx generators like bfxr, so I’ll likely use those as well.

Good luck everyone!

Let’s do it!

It will be my 3rd LD, and I’m very excited about it!

This time I’ll use Unreal Engine 4 & Blender to put something funny in 3d, hope it wil turn great! :)

Back in the ring!

Alright, after taking time off in December it’s time to get back in it!

My toolbox:

  • IDE: IntelliJ IDEA
  • Code: Java, with LibGDX
  • Sounds: Bfxr
  • Music: Anvil Studio and/or GarageBand
  • Graphics: Pixen

I keep my base code on GitHub here.

This weekend I’m gonna have a lot less time than usual and to top it off I’m working my first day at a new client on monday. The challenge this time around is going to have more to do with pacing myself and coming up with a fun but simplistic design. One that still gives me some time for polish. No staying up until 3 AM!
