I am out!

Hi, my uncle dying in hospital so… I am out. Maybe next time!

This is the fourth time I’ve tried to do compo and I failed to finish on time again. Something is wrong either with my time management or planning :)

The Furniture is Alive

Do you like suspenseful horror games?

Do you enjoy creeping around in the dark with a flashlight? How about jumpscares?

If these sound appealing to you, try “The Furniture is Alive“. An alien being has taken the shape of desks, chairs, water coolers and beds. Don’t turn your back on them.

The State of The Combinator

Well, after perhaps a bit of scoping issues, we have 6 hours after school today to add in the rest of the attacksets, towns and levels, and final boss to our action RPG.

Did we bite off more than we can chew? Hopefully not! See you all at the submission hour, fellow jammers!

Keyboard Ghosting Issues

Despite my best efforts, my entry Shifty’s Shape Escape has presented issues for people using non-English keyboard layouts and keyboards on which certain combinations of simultaneous keypresses don’t register due to ghosting.

See https://www.microsoft.com/appliedsciences/content/projects/KeyboardGhostingDemo.aspx) for more information on this.

As a result I changed the controls from “Q”, “W”, “A” and “S” to “Q”, “P”, “A” and “;”, which has at least enabled people using Macs to play the game, but has had the side effect of rendering the controls difficult or broken for those on non-English keyboards.

Obviously a way to solve this with more development would be to support keyboard remapping within the game, but that luxury wouldn’t be considered a bugfix. I’m interested to hear thoughts from anyone else who has tried implementing keyboard controls where more than three keys can be pressed simultaneously, and if there’s any configuration which would work universally for my game. Note the controls need to represent four diagonal corners, so arrow keys or WASD wouldn’t solve the problem and likely would suffer from ghosting issues anyway.

Let me hear your thoughts on the issue, and your experiences with the controls in my game!

OUR FIRST LUDUM DARE GAME JAM.

game is all about reaching the end of the level with the appropriate poly number a given poly numbers according to level where the obstacles (triangles/spikes) are sometimes is a advantage or disadvantage as they reduce the poly count.

New features for Ludum Dare on itch.io

Hello all,

I didn’t work on any games for Ludum Dare this time around, but I did add some new stuff to itch.io that you might find useful. The biggest one is that you can can now embed games hosted on itch.io directly on your submission page. The new embed feature lets you embed HTML and Flash games anywhere, and it works great with Ludum Dare’s submission page:

Drag link to embed

After uploading your game just find the new “Embed game” section on the distribute tab of the game’s edit page.

The second update is for tagging games. I just wanted to make it really obvious that you can tag your game for Ludum Dare. I also added the ability to provide your submission link directly from within the create/edit page:

Tag your game and provide link

Hope you ejoy! (and I hope I’ll get some time to make a game next time)

Packaging

It seems that libgdx really did a good job, and all default packages for our game – Linux, Win, OSX, web and android just work well.

I’m Out!

Well I had Unity an existing RTS framework and lots of previous LD experience, what could go wrong?

A health issue, yep my body decided to do it’s own thing.  Nothing major but it does make it harder to focus when you may have to dash off to the loo.

I know I should have dusted off the laptop and just setup a desk in the bathroom.

I real should have practiced even with my own framework, it is a previous LD entry so it’s not as easy to work with as I thought it was.

So by day 2 I had at least an improved health situation, but very little made for what could be an RTS game with Shapeshifting.

Managed to find a really odd bug in Unity, that stopped the UI from working.

So threw in the towel.

Disappointed but relieved.

Have Fun

Better Luck next time, Man! Make sure to rest up a bit.

My Game

I did finish my game in time for the compo. However, I only got half of the screens done since I was short on time. Here is the link to my submission:  http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-35/?action=preview&uid=57608

A Tale Of Shifted Shapes completed!

My first solo Ludum Dare was a success!(?) I decided to  go with a more minimalist approach and I think it worked. Play: A Tale Of Shifted Shapes

It turned out the way I wanted and I tried out a different artstyle than my normal pixel art. I think I will definitely be continuing development and hope to see a mobile release (probably the best platform for this type of thing)

My game and the PARCC

I’m in school rn so I can’t work on my game, but I’m not taking the PARCC so I’m making my game’s character out of wood. I’ll show the finished version in a bit. Comment and I’ll make the first person’s character that does. I’ll have some time later and I’ll make it then!
