You guys make such quick progress. This is just the basics of my character’s costume switching done.
Long way to go!

Progress, running on Android phone…

Alien Shape Shifters

Got something working, with a bit of “programmer art!” Now I just gotta do something with it…

it’s honestly so beautiful makes me want to smile
First LD Compo, very excited!
So far it feels good, my slime is learning some few tricks by shapeshifting, now i have to start adding some enemies, more shapeshifts and more mechanics 😀

After an industrious day I have a feeling that tomorrow will be a really close call.
I got totally stuck between hacking it together and using at at least a little architecture to not lose my mind later on. Half a day wasted on refactoring @_@.

The graphics are supposed to be placeholders, but I have a feeling that I won’t have enough time to improve them 😉
So, I’ve added more things to my game, and it’s getting on nicely.

I’m not sure if the gif is actually working as I don’t have a lot of experience working with them on LD. EDIT: ok, so the gif doesn’t work apparently. I explain what happens in it here:
Basically, I’ve added a girl character that you can choose to play as. This character will have different functions to the guy character, but that’ll come later.
You also get to see the HUD animation of the character’s face (very doom-like!) and the radiation of the radioactive source in the bottom left. There are also two new slots of the HUD: the head item and the hand item. The gif shows the character picking up a case to hold the radioactive source in so she doesn’t get irradiated (the whole point of the game will be to get the radioactive source from one point to the next while receiving as little radiation as possible. The shapeshifting will come soon, I promise!)
Now, I’m gonna have a little exam-revision break that I promised myself I would get to. Good luck! 😀

look at it, tis beautiful

Hello everybody!
We’re a team of 1 artist, 1 programmer and 1 game designer. We’re from Brazil and this is our first time participating on #LDJAM. We’re really excited to make a little game.
The idea we have is a cursed character that is going to turn into a monster tonight, but he can avoiding that staying on the light.
So he’s gonna need to protect and grow his bonfire, keeping the creatures away so they don’t put out the fire.
But maybe turning to a monster has it’s advantages…?

Just as I was about to get upset because I had no gameplay ideas, Captain Inspiration came and rescued me.
Back when I came up with an idea of shifting planes, I knew it couldn’t go bad, I just need to take advantage of it. Today I threw away some complicated ideas, finished the core mechanics and made one level. Here is what I have:
equals to
Aha! You can go around that pillar to collect that shiny trinket!
Circular saws are inspired by Super Meat Boy, but I don’t plan to make my game difficult. Ideally, there will be several ways to finish a level in my game:
Bad news, I have no time to make awesome levels.
…but it’s a start! My teammate Noah had the idea of a match-the-shape type game, like those old toys you played with in preschool. I know it may not be the most original thing to start, but it’s my first weekend game by myself (Noah had to bow out almost immediately due to time constraints) and I’d like to keep it simple.
Thus, Amorphosis’ little pre-alpha self in all its ugly glory.
the shapeshifting in the game is the mechanic
but how does the mechanic work, you ask
well…
you’ll see

First stage complete. Video of a full playthrough (~4 minutes).
Tomorrow we’ll add menus, put in some nicer assets, and polish it up.
Earlier today I decided to quit, but soon after that I had few good ideas and decided to get back in, of course this means I lost a lot of time, that I need to make back.

I have the basic game mechanics done. The concept is travelling around the level to collect the gems. Each time a gem is collected, the level “shapeshifts” into something harder to get the next gem. There are also bullets to dodge and other enemies to avoid. Spacebar shoots an orb which slows the enemies and slows the rate of fire of guns, making things a bit easier. Current name for this is “Trapped in the Void”
Edit: Not sure why the GIF isn’t working. It is supposed to show the main gameplay…
These things are kinda aggressive now haha. You play this white object, which is getting morphed into the shapes of the “attackers”.
I’m not sure about the goal yet, but I guess this is going to be some sort of puzzle/action plattformer, where you have to make use of enemies to progress.

So we tried putting the animation in the game
Some people say we know our craft… and we keep pushing on
At first I thought I wouldn’t join this time after all, but then I had an idea for something, so I thought I’d give it a shot.
The basics are in, now to flesh it out a bit and add some more fine tuning and at least one powerup.
