Update IV: The Story Begins!

I’m going for a BIG story this time. I might even go into the Jam lol. I’ve already done some voice overs, and I’m going to start on the music early, right now. I’ve got all the guns and the major story in place, along with some nice gameplay. I’m Ready!

Каменная сигнализация

Как вы думаете, на что рассчитывали те ребята, которые устанавливали в качестве сигнализации у себя дома гигантский каменный шар?

Concept art done

You know that aliens built the pyramids, right? But did you know that that the pyramids are actually frickin’ SPACESHIPS that were used to INVADE THE EARTH!?

I have like six hours tomorrow to make this. No problem. Noooo problem.

Awesome Crystals!

GemShot

Things are going good! Just have to spawn stuff now and make more levels!

Some logic stuff is also required, but we are working on that as well.

Do you all think we need a bigger crosshair? Let me know and I can get it done!

Good Luck, Have Fun!

Track tiles for unnamed train game

Attempting to build a train controlling game – ancient, since the trains are supposed to be old, and the gfx should resemble and ancient home computer, the ZX Spectrum. Not much time to work on it though, so let’s see how far I get. Below a screenshot with PyxelEdit, toying around with track tiles. The benefit (and hurdle) of ZX Spectrum gfx is that while designing sprites, it’s enough to draw in 1-bit color depth. Later when placing tiles on the screen, a foreground and a background color can be specified from a limited palette. This was known as the “color attribute block” model, followed by many home computers of the time to save memory. Looking forward to see some nice color clash!

Freeeedom!

Got back to the game and added in a rudimentary catapult.
You can load the basin with an object (such as the mattress and/or prisoner); pull back and release, firing them off. It’s already starting to look great (for me – I’m happy with how it’s turning out)

Progress Report: The Next Morning…

Now with working on-screen text, and two utterly useless commands!

Now with working on-screen text, and two utterly useless commands!

I still don’t know where I’m going with these, to be entirely honest; I want to make some hacking and fun stuff built around these computers, but I’m not sure what to put on them TO hack.  I haven’t even started on doing stealth gameplay mechanics yet!

One thing I’m thinking about is maybe taking a leaf out of Gunpoint’s book, and making various hackable objects (like lights), that you can control from these computers.  Next floor swarming with guards?  Turn off their lights!  Want to dig up dirt on the CEO?  Look through his search history!

The problem with this, of  course, being that I need to program a faux OS to hack, give computers separate instanced filesystems and things they can modify (e.g; lights), etc.  Furthermore, I need some kinda model for guards, workers, etc.  A low-poly or abstract human is the obvious thing to jump to, given the nature of the rest of the game’s graphics, but whenever I model a human, it always comes out ridiculously uncanny.

Lets start working

I worked all day for the boss to make sure we can release Curve Fever 3 upcomming Monday.
This evening and night are going to be mine though! I’ll start working on a fun little idea I have regarding the theme.

I’ve choosen an art-style that’s probably going to take up most of the time but I’ll try my best to make it as crappy as possible to actually get some gameplay done this night.
The first day is almost over which makes me stress out a bit, but it’ll be fine once I’m on steam, doing my thing.

It’ll be a good distraction from the hectic and strict work I have to do for my job. I can mess around more so that’ll be my main goal for this jam.

Lets have fun!
Great stuff I’ve seen so far.

Keep up the spirit and keep drinking spirits 😉

Another coding break = more art

Took another break from coding (i’m slowly getting to the point when i can put it all together and call it game) and made more character portraits! Hopefully, i’ll have time to put all of them to use.

Akira the Counsellor a.k.a. “tutorial guy”. Don’t worry, despite his appearance, he actually knows his stuff.

Marguerite the Elder a.k.a. “a tribe elder”. Don’t mess with her people if you don’t want to be damned! (you may or may not care).

Wow, really nice.

First day progress.. I guess

Gahh.. Had a really bad time with the theme and a lack of inspiration. Decided I have to do something, so I ended up with a SHMUP. Haven’t really felt the flow this time, hopefully tomorrow will make a difference :)

You think stonehenge is a stone calendar? WRONG! It’s a crash site! Pyramid ships are coming, destroy them with your powerful stonehenge spaceship!

Let’s see if tomorrow will see some upgrades too :)

Ahoy, Shipmates!

Sorry about the misleading titles, I got carried away.. Or did I? Ancient Ships? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!!?!?!!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!!?!??

Yea, you can build your own ships and customize them however you want (just kidding there’s many limitations like the fact that I haven’t made even a tenth of the artwork for building blocks)!

So, you build your ship, and you just kinda, play around. It was going to be platformer but the most fun thing about the game is seeing my messed up rigidbodys with stretchy limbs so I focused gameplay on that, added weapons and I’m working on more models to kill! You literally have no end point in my game, you just have a good time.

Good luck everyone else, Feedback is appreciated!

For your kind of art, I think left adds much more beauty to it. Colors are way richer :)

Progress

Here is a little clip of my game so far. Basically the idea is that Stonehenge is a huge planetary weapon in ancient times, and the Great Pyramids are a control hub to pilot the planet. Aliens are attacking the ancient civilizations, and you must control the planet to defend it.

pretty

Finished:

  • Basic Enemy AI
  • Some art features (clouds, stars, earth and moon sprites)
  • Shooting + Different Shooting Modes

To-Do

  • More Enemies (bosses, support enemies, different types of attacks)
  • More Art
  • Story Cutscene at the beginning
  • Sound Effects/Music (Gonna try using FamiTracker)
  • Increasing Difficulty per round
  • Store per round where you can spend points to get upgrades

Frequent Updates on Twitter :)

End of day one and I’m in!

Hello everyone! I have spent most of today starting to make my game and I have beenn loving every bit of it. This is the first time that I’m actually competing.

I have decided to participate in the jam by creating a game centered around reverse engineering ancient technology. I will also try to make an action platformer part if I have the time. I have already seen some nice things here and I hope I will be able to finish something which looks as nice as some of those things. Good luck and have fun!

Missed almost a whole day… time for work!

Missed almost a whole day due to family visits.

However, it allowed me time to think of ideas- I had some really good ones for other themes. Not for this one.

I have a good one now, I’m having my first go at a puzzle game! Everyone’s looks great so far, good luck! 😀

Approaching end of day #1

This day was really tiring. Hovewer, i finished most of my gameplay, now i just need to polish it and add some music and sound effects.
