Abandoned Kingdom – Day One

This time I’m working with a friend of mine. We decided to try and make a mobile augmented reality game (like PokeMon GO), but with more of an RPG game play. So far we have GoogleMap integration, resource spawning and resource collection working!

Still lots to do, but not bad for a days work!

Awesome! Will you share the source code when finished? And do you use Unity or other engine?

And this is a hint: he likes so much to play the Game Boy!

Hooray for brain farts…

I just realized I just spent the last hour looking at a blank piece of paper trying to think of the next segment…yay for productivity.

In fact screw it…nap time.

Progress!

Gameplay and graphics almost done, time to move on to sound effects and music.

Progress

I have been working on this from 8:30 AM (CET) to now with a little break in between. The game has no title yet. The story is something like this: It is year 3000. You have found and ancient(this is where the theme comes in) computer set. The computer has been used by multiple people in the past. The game has no endings(or does it).  Things I need to finish:

  • The computer
  • Add games and stuff
  • Add tutorial book
  • Add intro
  • Come up with the title

I hope that I will finish this game(I have never finished any game).

Thanks Coffee!

Good Luck All!!!

Collision problems…

By now I thought I was the master of 2D collision detection in java…

The picture below shows red boxes, which are the bounds of the blocks in my game. The red boxes on the blue rectangle are the players bounding boxes.

leftCollide

Java thinks the player box marked “left” is colliding with the block underneath.

They are not colliding.

TELL ME HOW THEY ARE COLLIDING!

In other news, everyone else looks like they’re getting on fine. Good luck 😀

Demo!

Seeing as I chose Love and not Phaser this makes testing out what I have so far a little harder. If anyone’s interested and this “.love” format is completely unknown to them, grab the engine from https://love2d.org/.

Try my dumb runner game here!

hmm, weird… when I update it stays there, but after a few seconds it breaks…

Think I got it to work… hopefully

I’m in!

Ok so I was pretty unsure if I could/would participate this time. Felt pretty disapointed with my last LD entry even though it technically worked and included pretty much all the features I was going for – it just was not fun to play :(

Anyway – this time I haven’t reserved time over the weekend to participate but after seeing the theme, mulling it over and discussing an idea with my son I am going to be in! So starting late but I will just adapt scope to that (or fail – always an option). The first step to suceeding is to commit to something.

My idea is stone collecting and flinging. You are chief of a stone age tribe, everyone depends on your skill at hunting (by throwing stones) and your decisions decide the fate of your tribe. So a resource (stones, population, health, energy) management game.

Tools:

Not sure – due to time constraints must choose tools I know well – so C#/javascript… Could be web based or multiplatform Xamarin will decide that once I scope out the different features.

Fixed collision bugs and level generation!

levelCapture

I fixed that collision bug nice and smoothly 😉 just had to make the left and right boxes smaller…

And I used this nice terrain generation! It’s not super efficient, as I could have used 2 dimensional arrays… but what’s the fun in that? 😛

End of day #1

This was really fun but i’m really tired now. My game will be available tomorrow. Good luck on making your entry! :)

scrap

so I am scrapping all code I have done thusfar to make this easier but more tedious. that is all

Progress Report (15 hours in)

Some proper graphics are in. Unfortunately the AI pathfinding gave me some issues so that will have to wait for the next GIF.

GIF-COHOLIC

More on them problems tomorrow. Staying up for the last two hours was a mistake…

We’re making *some* process! Finally!

While struggling with designing the levels and programming the game logic at the same time, we are currently stucked in the mud. But watch that. Ta Da! It’s the TIME BALL! I have no idea what it does (or if it will ever do something) but I’m not removing it. It’s so beautiful 😉

First pass at the game’s layout is complete

This being my first text based game, I knew that the aesthetics should be slightly more than just white text and blue links. I tried to spice it up as best I can. I also settled on a name for the game.

Here are some screenshots of the layout as it is now:

Screenshot 2016-08-27 14.10.26  Screenshot 2016-08-27 14.10.58  Screenshot 2016-08-27 14.11.06

Art isn’t my strong suit but I’m going to do the best I can to get in some animations to spice up the dialogue.

The Gameplay:

  • You play as an out-of-work Game Designer due to a market crash in the far, far future.
  • You have an idea to start making games using technology from the 1980’s in the hopes of standing out and making a creative statement during a recession.
  • If you release a game that doesn’t do well…let’s just say there’s a lot at stake.
  • As you progress you’ll meet new characters and be faced with difficult choices as you aim to manage your Mental Strength, Creativity, and Ambition while working on each game.

What’s Left?

  • Art and animations are needed to break up text.
  • Continue writing out the story and making content. The gameplay loop and logic is complete. Now I need to focus on creating a story with interesting choices and game content.
  • The game is technically in a finished state, so everything else is just adding content and polish.

Probably gonna take a quick nap though. Pretty tired.
