The LD#36 Map is Live!

LD is much more than a contest:- its a community!  Ludum-darers from all around the world come together online to produce exciting new fun games for each other to enjoy playing! 😀

Use the LD Map to wonder at the reach of Ludum Dare, and find games to play, and track just how many games you have commented on or have already commented on you!

The pin colour shows you if you have already commented on a game or they have commented on your game.

The map may take several minutes to reflect recent comments as it uses the excellent Feedback Friends API which scrapes the main LD website periodically.

(Please provide feedback and bug reports as comments to this post)

When I press logout, my pin (the blue one) disappears from the map. Is it intended? Then waht’s the difference between “forget my location” and “logout” if they’re doing the same thing?

Shame my pin is so closely huddled up with other Seattlites :p

For some reason, after I enter my username it tells me that I “haven’t entered any games” even though I submitted one for the LD36 compo.

You can interact with dinos already!

Your spaceship crashed on Earth during the Jurassic Era. You need the dinosaurs help to get your ship fixed. Use basic ship functions such as alert lights to interact with their emotions and return home. :)

hard but its done!

I cant believe how satisfied im with the game i came up in the end, it was a challenge and something that i have not made before… but a really good experience overall.

all i can say now is that i can rest in peace now that i actually finished all the things i planned to add, until now i never finished up any game like i wanted to, and even through the final and game over ended up a little too simple, its still the one of hardest game i have accomplished.

really hope you all enjoy the little journey through my game, im really hoping to have some feedback in the comments if it happens to be some…

finally i present you…     Secret Balance

Secret Balance

progress 17 hours left before the jam ends!

A bug prevented me from doing more level design and thus, caused me to miss the compo entry cut off. But I’ve gotten 90% of the tutorial levels done! Then it’s time for the designing the challenge aspect (other than the current time limitations). I also procrastinated and made a cool adaptive quality settings manager in unity based off of their FpsCounter script.

Wild West Hero

Check out my game! It’s a splitscreen Last Man Standing game (1-4 players), where only one surviver can be the western hero!

Done with my jam game!

To those of you who kept me company during this Ludum Dare, I want to give you a great big thanks!  IRC #Ludumdare, FGD, and people following on my Twitch stream, you are all awesome!

My entry is right here.

We did it!

My oh my that was quite the experience! This was our first Ludum Dare, and it was a lot of fun! My roommate and I worked on this project together, he doing the art and I the programming. We can’t wait for the next one! :)

One thing that I regret is that we didn’t participate at all with the community. We’re both used to just putting our heads down and working, and I think we missed out on a little bit of the fun by doing so. We’ll definitely strive to be better about that come LD37.

And now, I must make a play at a couple hours sleep so I can be at least halfway useful at work tomorrow. ^_~ Good luck to those that are still plugging away!!

First game, first gamejam!

We are a young brother and sister team.  This is our first game together, and we made it using Scratch, which we have been using since one of us joined our local Code Club.  We were invited to participate in Ludum Dare 36 by local game developers SoGoodStudios and SizeableGames who made us feel really welcome and helped us by testing our game and giving us feedback.

Our game is called Roman Defence.  We were talking about the ancient technology theme and decided to do a game using Roman weaponry and gladiators, but it ended up being about a lone Roman soldier defending their town from ferocious animals (who escaped while being shipped to the Colosseum!) using only spears.  Hundreds of spears..  We came up with the basic idea on Saturday afternoon and over the rest of the weekend one of us did all the programming into Scratch while the other made all of the sprites etc.  We used the Pixel Art and PixiTracker apps on Android for the sprites and music and converted the Scratch file to a Flash game using http://junebeetle.github.io/converter/.

We tried to make Roman Defence seem authentically retro, with very simple gameplay and pixel art sprites, and a soundtrack that stays with you afterwards for all the wrong reasons.  There is only one level, it starts off slow and gets faster.  The conclusion is sadly inescapable (the herd of beasts always win!) but you get to take as many as possible with you.  You are helped by a power up in the form of Pompeiian bread, which allows you to use the Super Spears superpower for every thirty seconds you survive the onslaught.

Note to myself

If you know only vaguely what you’re doing: don’t try to write physics code. Insted of searching for bugs in my own developed “physics” world I should have just used Box2D.

(Also rethink this really unpolished event system I’ve written)

Hope you guys have / had alot of fun and didn’t ran into the same “reinventing the wheel” issues like me

That’s insane! Did you really try to remake Box2D for the LD? I implemented very basic flying physics with the lift equation, but other than that…

I’m going to bed now.

My first Ludum Dare

Finished my compo entry for Ludum Dare 36 last night. As my first Ludum Dare ever, it feels great getting a game finished!

Entry

A short but intense project

“My name is Dr…. Oh Gods, I can’t remember now. Anyway, this is the story of how I almost destroy this world.”

This is how our game starts.

We are InfiniteGames, an Indie videogame studio  placed in Zaragoza (Spain).

For more information check our webpage. (https://infinitegamesrn.wordpress.com)

Concept

This is a fixed image game (a dungeon) where the main character needs to destroy everything in the room in order to pass to the next level

Story

Our tale starts when the main character finds in a pyramid an old artifact and accidentally awakes a mysterious and destructive God.

In that moment a pair of portals apear at each side of the dungeon and his army starts to conquer our world.

Mission

With the old artifact (which is divided in pieces) and using different combinations, the species of monsters will be killed by an antique magic. First with only two pieces until you complete the artifact.

After destroying both portals, the God with descent to Earth to destroy you, find the correct combination to finish him.

Enemies

There are four different types of monsters in the game

  • The Bug is dead by a common hit.
  • The Tank needs a special attack (like a grenade) to take to it armor, after than a normal hit will end with its life.
  • The Bat is killed by a lightning
  • The God needs several hits, once the portals are destroy (without enemies in the stage)

We know there are lots of thing to do, and we hope to hace it before dead line. Anyway we expect to continue doing some improvements after deadline. Stay tuned in our social media for news and fun things.
