LD36 August 26–29, 2016

Just tested the last version I uploaded for Ludumdare….

And it seems like I unticked the CameraFollow script… making the whole game unplayable… (Keeping in mind I had a version up and running, before updating it with a not working version)

So if anyone wants to play the “not” compo version here it is… -> So yeah since its after compo… I will release it as JamGame then, jai… Not really horrible as there is no rating 😀
And since I have now some sleep and can now think straight… The game is not good. Everything works (now) fine, but the design behind the crafting is just… meh.
At least I learned something out of it! I should sleep out on the first day, and find a good idea… Not just an idea which is okay.

The crafting just shouldnt be the core mechanic… in a jump’n’run…
At least it works I guess:
-Throw stick against rock and you get an axe and a spear.
-Throw axe against Tree and you get sticks and wood…
-…
At least I tried it… and learned that its not the best of all ideas 😀

Promo

For the textures… its absolutely an improvement to the last compo, which just consisted of blocks with varying colors. But it was a game which I liked/like to play.
And… yeah the theme was also stupid… (pointing fingers I know…)

Also, looking at the Gamejolt statistics, more people downloaded this game compared to Formorph from last Ludumdare which is kinda a shame :(…

If you still want to try it… Be my guest. even though I would suggest playing Formorph instead… shameful self advertisement.

And thanks for the read 😀

You are aloud to do minor changes like that. It is stated under the list of games.

Welp…

I’m unsure if we will finish with our stealth game, there is still so much to do! But at least the models are looking great, so there is that.

Characters of our stealth game

Battle Cards – Done in time and on budget – woooot!

The Game

So another LD completed, this by far is my most successful.

The name of the game is called Battle Cards, it’s a simple card battler with a simple yet clear design (which yes was inspired by the wonderful reigns  Check it out here!

Here’s the obligatory screen shots for your amazement and bemusement.

I wasn’t overly excited when waking up on Saturday morning and hearing the theme, it wasn’t one of my favorites available and was hoping for something more defined. I always get pre-jam
jitters and was thinking if nothing took my fancy I’d focus on the myriad of other projects I have on the go.

A quick aside maybe this is what differentiates the dedicated Indie developers who actually release things from the hobbyist who just love to tinker and build new play things. Sometimes you just have to release it, something as a hobbyist I’m reluctant to do.

So anyway I took this opportunity to learn how to build a game that I’ve thinking about for ages that being a digital card game, what’s LD for if not to learn something new and make something cool and if you fail then hell at least you learnt something.

It was pretty smooth jam for me compared to some of the holes I’ve gotten into before, except for a 3 hour refactor of the enemies half way through it was very smooth.

Of all the games I’ve build this is the first that will definitely be worked on post Jam, especially as there was a whole story mode I wanted to build but cut to focus on creating a polished experience for the Jam.

Anyway I know it’s rough, but I think there’s a gem in here which I can’t wait to unearth.

Hopefully you enjoy playing and please provide feedback.

Till next time, stay cool San Diego!!!!

Cheeky little cutscene!

So I’ve decided what I’m going to do for this jam as it’s more relaxed is just make “one level”. Like a “what if” this game was actually made for the Mega Drive/Genesis. And if people highly enjoy it then I’ll carry on making it into a full game or something 😀

But for now, have a cheeky little gif of a cutscene 😀

Might submit a jam entry

A machine created several billion years ago is talking to you. Well, just my interpretation of “ancient technology” :P.

Unreal Odyssey: Star chart navigation

Only few hours left till the end of the #LD36, but my Odyssey mini-game still in progress!
Hope, I’ll finish it soon.

However, my Star chart generator works pretty well.

End of LD 36 Compo

It was AWESOME !, i love the theme, and probably one of my favourite theme so far, and i only participate in Ludum Dare 3 times, LD 32, 34 and 36

Theres lot of people already playing and give me feedback about my game, lot of suggestion about future development of the game and such, its makes me excited and also gives me lot of idea, if….i want to develop in further, lot of work, and other back log project needed to be done :(

this is not exactly the best game i’ve made so far for LD compo, but tbh, its the most effective, clean in term of management and coding, even tho if you look up the source code its still looks like spagehtti 😀

but so far i’m quite satisfied with the finish product, have some bugs, but i fixed it quite fast, and probably now all known bugs already fixed

will make post mortem soon-ish, if i have spare time 😀

now….back to workdesk T__T

I originally planned to use the next few hours to work even more on the game, but I’m getting burned out, so I’m calling it here. Hope everyone had a good time this jam!

Azymuth

Azymuth is my entry for the LD36 event. A vanished civilization, using its mighty technology, was able to build some temples in the sky. Today this place becomes a challenge which only a brave runner could complete. Are you this one?

Azymuth03

Decided to change everything at last hour.

So, I have a revelation at last moment and I decided to change everything into pixel and now I don’t know which one put in the game, can you help me? Which one you like the most? :)

Pixel art looks more polished.

I like the pixel art more. It is easier to make something look good in pixel art. But that is just my opionion xD

I agree with Piotrek; I’d rather see the pixel version.

Thanks fot comments! I also like more the pixel one but I don’t know why, it looks better the non-pixel in Unity. Hmm…

Question

Can you update your submission as long as you update it before the time runs out?

Yes, you can even update it after time runs out (but you can’t make submission).

Thank you Ok that’s cool.

Ancient computer technology

This is what they got away with in the late 70s and early 80s. Games like Berserk and Pitfall, people paid for playing these games.  Those days was ancient counting computer technology years. So we decided to have an ancient theme to both the game, the gameplay and graphics.

It’s my fourth time doing LD and the second time doing a jam. Every single time I’m surprised that I/we actually getting a game both done and finished. Even if it doesn’t feel like that tapping away on the keyboard on Sunday afternoon discovering new weird bugs.

We had lots of ideas that we wanted to add making use of more ancient technology and possible crafting to solve some puzzles. But in the end it become quite simple. Too much time was put on random room generation but in the end (with some dirty tricks and hacks) it came out quite good.

Now lets see how this new “voting” will work and we are already looking forward to LD37! :)

Can’t finish this time..

Unfortunately I have to forfait.

That’s a pity, because I had good ideas this time.. I won’t waste them away, that’s for sure. Maybe I’ll continue the game on my own after this LD36 finishes (with all my other errands, damn you exams). Here’s a concept art of the battle system in my rpg-like idea.

Concept Battle

Good luck for the others.. see you in the next LD !!

Space attack

I finally finish my little game. I have a lot of fun to make it. The goal of my game is to beat the last boss but before you can beat it, you must kill 250 littles ennemies. At first, it’s very easy but the difficulty increase at each 30 kills. For the boss fight, there is the boss and littles enemy. It’s not an easy one but remember, the old game was not easy. If you want to try it, here is the link: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-36/?action=preview&uid=24796.

Cool, but how is this about ancient technology?
29. Aug 2016 · 17:42 UTC
On my side I take the theme in the sens that it’s a 2d game that use ancient technoloty style with pixel art and 8bit music. I know that the game is not 100% related to the theme but I made this to have fun. :)

We thought about trying to sneak a space fighter game in under the umbrella of “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…”. Didn’t end up going that route, but just throwing it out there…

Inspiration from iteration

I’m no game designer. I try, but I’m better at worldbuilding than actually creating engaging gameplay and presenting interesting choices. That’s why I went for this super linear design where all you do is click through a series of events.

This morning. I was feeling hopeless. My game was not a game. It was a slideshow. Sure, I could just introduce FTL-style multiple choice screens. But I would need dozens of those just to keep the game interesting.

Nevertheless, I marched on and started coding the last feature in my To-Do list: a linear minimap.

Game with linear minimap

And there it was. It was pretty simple, really. Just a long line that the game can add and remove markers from.

Wait… remove markers? Why would you ever remove a marker from the minimap?

And then it hit me. What if you could choose to discard the current route and get a new (possibly harder) one?

And suddenly my game was not a slideshow anymore – nor was it an Oregon Trail ripoff. There is now one action, one choice the player can make at any point in the game, and that choice makes a world of difference.

Game with a "change course" button

That’s what I call inspiration from iteration. My fascination with the generation of diversion knows no cessation. Ideation is my vocation, the eradication of procrastination, and though my creation ain’t no sensation it is my heartfelt motivation to release it all over the nation.

Blood Sacrifice

Defend your civilization against the impending doom!
A strange, ancient device has the power to do so, but it comes with a terrible price:
In order to power the cannons, a blood sacrifice must be made!

Try to survive 20 meteors and don’t forget: A lonely creature is not enough to keep the civilization alive!

At the beginning of times, God was already messing with technology to make his creations. Use the most ancient tech to generate creatures and protect them from your mistakes.
