I'm getting somewhere.

Complete the compounds based on the tips given at the bottom of the screen.
Neutralize them by making sure all electrons are bonded to another, and in a proper configuration.
You can drag atoms and scroll while dragging to rotate them.
Based on IGCSE Chemistry syllabus (ionic and covalent bonding), but you can figure out the game without taking chemistry classes.
A puzzle game done with PuzzleScript.

Disclaimer: What you are about to see is programmer art.
I started with brainstorming different ideas as such, all centered around economy of strokes (merely a time factor, hahah) and some sort of "blocky" head:

Eventually I settled on this (in game modulated to a soft neon-purple color):

With 10 hours remaining on the clock I'm knee-deep in redoing the placeholder graphics. It sucks if your character turns out to be twice as large as the placeholder and that influences the game code, but I think I have the most important issues resolved and can now focus on making everything pretty.
Current progress:

Just finished my game! Maybe I scoped too small?

The goal of HexCity is to amass the highest amount of score. Simple enough.
Each building you place will increase your score by this amount :
House : -1
Farm : -1
Mine : 1
Wind turbine : 1
Factory : 2
Market : 3
Bank : 5
Rocket Silo : 8
Here where the challenge lives : To place a building you need to meet every requirement that the building has.
House : For a worker to live, he simply needs an adjacent farm in order to eat.
Farm : A farm can be placed anywhere, except next to another farm.
Mine and Wind turbine : Both need only an adjacent worker house.
Factory : A factory needs an adjacent worker house, wind turbine and mine.
Market : A market needs an adjacent worker house, wind turbine and factory.
Bank : A bank needs an adjacent worker house, wind turbine, mine and market.
Rocket : A rocket silo needs and adjacent worker house, wind turbine, factory and bank.
You may have noticed that there is different tile colors. These are :
Light green : Grass (Normal tile)
Blue : Water (You can't build on this tile)
Dark green : Forest (Double score tile, this means if you build a market you get 6 points instead of 3, but if you build a farm you get -2 score since it's originally -1)
Beige : Sand (No score is calculated on this tile, this means building something with low score on this tile is ideal).
I have something playable now in terms of one level. It would have been done sooner, if it weren't for a really easy to miss bug that plagued me for two hours yesterday. Glad I fixed it, because it was game-breaking. I currently have a win condition set up. All it's missing is a title screen and a Game Over screen. I would show some gameplay footage if I had the means to do screen capture. Didn't install the software for that ahead of time. I'll have it next time, though. For now, have a screenshot:

The gray blob is the player, a white blood cell. The red and blue things are germs inside the body. Your goal is to use randomly-spawned colored pills to power up and kill germs of the same color by eating them. You take damage if you're the wrong color or if you're gray. Pills have a time limit on how long they stay active. Today, I'm going to get a title and Game Over screen working, as well as add some additional visual effects, sound, and maybe a biological hazard that you can't kill, but need to avoid if it shows up. Feeling good about this so far!
I'm pretty much done with Polar Protector, still with about 10 hours to go. It's not the most impressive thing, but it's modest and I'm happy with it for my first Ludum Dare. Hooray!

...but at least we're making progress.

Hi guys, how is the second day going?
We are working on the game mechanics, here you can find a little preview:

Spent probably too much time to record too little low-quality music, but here's the Blocklings theme. All I did was just fooling around with an ocarina-like instrument while severely sleep deprived, and then select about 15 or so of the takes for the soundtrack. My microphone (or recording set-up, not sure which...?) was introducing an undesirable buzz, so I had to do noise removal.

Working on this game has been a great experience for me, specifically being able develop exclusively in code. Games don’t require goofy scene graphs or a hacky component system.
I’m using C#+SDL2, it’s great fun, and I’m streaming the last eight hours today.
