LD20 April 29–May 2, 2011

Half in

Due to an unfortunately timed Fiesta (Moros y Cristianos) and other inconveniently timed prior commitments It’s going to be more like a 48minute rather than a 48hour challenge for me this time round.  My current plan is to use the first 24h for an intensive partying planning session and then try and cobble something together on the last day.  It’s going to have to be even simpler then usual but my personal aim is to try and make something better looking than my previous entries.

As for tools I’m going to stick with Flixel, SFXR and my trusty and dusty copy of Paint Shop Pro 5 (13 years young and still going strong ^^).

First Time Running

I’m worried about being able to pull anything off as it’s been a while since I’ve worked on, let alone even completed a project. I was hoping to sharpen up my pygame skills a bit tonight but alas, work is pretty busy and there is a thunderous drinkening happening at my abode and by golly I do love alcohol.

I’m still looking for some friends to hop in but the response has been tepid. Odds are this’ll be a solo attempt or possibly a Jam if I can get a particular friend to donate his musical skills.

I’m In

The perfect cure for being ill, is clearly to write a game in 48 hours… So I am, as I’ve been meaning to do a game dev compo for a while.

Doing it pure, no base libraries or frameworks. Haxe and Flashdevelop will be the weapons of choice, Adode Photoshop Elements 6 will likely be the pixel wrangler.

Given said illness, its possible this might become a JAM entry or even not get done but if nothing else is should keep my mind of the feelings of nastiness.

I’m in, or we are in, not sure yet :-D

I’m in, but I also decided to invite the  complete game design class to my place, so this will either end up as one or several groups participating in the jam, or it will degenerate into a fist fight during the first 30 minutes of brainstorming.

We kind of agreed on using the following tools:

  • SFXR: Sound effects
  • Audacity: Audio
  • Photoshop: 2d GFX
  • 3Ds Max: 3d Modeling
  • Pixexix: Texture Painting

And we decided that we will use this engines ( we may go 2d or 3d):

  • UDK
  • Construct

This will be nuts.

Fist fight! Fist fight! Fist fight!

Preparations complete…prepare for launch in 3…2…1…

I’ll be participating along with all you fine folk.  I look forward to it.  I’ll be using the following:

  • Unity 3d
  • Blender
  • Photoshop Elements and Pixelmator
  • Audacity
  • SFXR

Plus any other goodies and libraries I have in my bag.  I’m looking for an excuse to use some tools I just got so I hope I can.  See you all at the starting line.

Hello.

Hey there, I am Adramalech. This will be my first LudumDare.

My tools will be:

– Visual Studio c#,

– paint.net,

– lots of food and energy drink.

I’ll be lanning with 3 more friends and competitors and ofcourse I’ll be joining the IRC 😀

Really looking forward to it, and I hope I’ll be able to finish something not unlike a game :)

setup done, now going to sleep

So here’s my setup. Since LD starts at 4am local time, I’m going to sleep now.

WOOT LD #20 is almost here!

I’m waiting for it.

Vote for traps!

-pants has (once again) approved this post..

Luduum Dare – ‘Ready to roll out’

As per the rules, I suppose I better share my library which I will be using for my first Luduum, so if need be check it out here: sourceforge.net/projects/prometheuslib which I may be committing to during Luddum as the need arises :)

Edit: and for tools its anything you find on the apt repos. That’d be jokosha, audacity, sfxr, gimp, wine  for any windows stuff I might need 😉 and most importantly:

YOUTUBE & RHYTHMBOX!

PS: Can you name where the ‘ready to roll out’ quote come from? Hint: 1997/98 game of the year recently made almost as epic…

As prepared as prepared can be

It’s been over a year since my last Ludum Dare and now I think it’s enough fooling around with school and other things, I want to be in again!

Not that it’s going to be easy… I promised by better half that we’re going out on a shopping spree tomorrow, and I will hurry through it (she made me promise) and then there’s Walpurgis Night so we’re gonna do some barbecue too. To top it off one of my best friends is coming over on Sunday and that’s not a lot of time left for some hardcore game making, but I will do my very best. Minimalism is the way to go I guess.

These are my tools:

  1. LMMS for sound
  2. My 7days fast prototyping library It’s a simple collection of useful stuff I feel help when you’re making a game. Uses SFML at it’s core for graphics, sound and whatnot.
  3. mtPaint an awesome tool for pixel graphics. Hopefully I’ll come up with something remotely nice looking.

There’s nothing more to it really. I made a simple time lapse script in Perl so I can monitor my making, or lack thereof. I think I saw some script for that here for linux but I dunno, I made my own anyway. I’ll be drawing power from Raubtier, Sarah Brightman, Hans Zimmer and some classical composers (Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi etc) I think.

I hope I can find some time and get something nice done.

Setup

Damnit! I still have to cook! :D. If you’re wondering about the blue packages: it’s the spicy chili that you get with cup ramen. I always keep those aside for the times I make chili or similar ^^

Hang on, what are you making with those ingredients? Or is it the ‘magic wizard coders potion of success’? Darn, I should’ve taken potions at school XD

of course it is :D! the worse the cooking is, the better, as it will rumble in your stomach, keeping you awake, which means more time for coding ^^

I’m in!

I’m livestreaming my participation, at http://livestre.am/JHYU.  Or trying to.  I am going to miss a big chunk of Saturday, so we’ll see what happens!  Good luck with [THEME NAME]!

Ready to go!

This is my second ludum dare, should be fun!

Heres what I am using:
-Engine: XNA+C# with a few base classes for sprites/controls/text parsing (see here http://pastebin.com/Ef7K0XhK)
-Sound: Madtracker, sfxr
-Graphics: ASEPRITE

Everyone vote for fun themes — nothing boring this time!!

colossal !!!!

First time : a Jam, not a compo

Hey everybody!

This is the first time I’m participating to a game development competition, and I think there’s no better place than LD! However, since this is the first time for me, I’m not ready to jump into the Compo! This is why I’m going to be a part of the Jam, with my old friend klaim.

We’re going to use :

  • C++ as the main language for the game, C# if there’s a need to quick tools
  • boost as the main C++ library
  • sfml for graphics and sounds
  • sfGUI for the GUI
  • ChaiScript if we need to embed a scripting language
  • OpenSteer if needed, and maybe also box2d according to our needs
  • Mercurial with BitBucket for source control
  • Paint.net/photoshop/inskcape for graphical assets
  • sfxr for audio assets

I hope we’ll be able to produce a good game, even if we’ll be out of competition! Can’t wait to start, whatever the theme is!!!! I’m here to have a good experience, have fun, and see how amazing you guys are 😉
Good luck everyone, and, as we say in France, “Merde!”

You mean you’ll enter the Jam then, since the Compo is solo.

WHoops, you’re right I made it right in the title, I was wrong in the text…

Prepared? Nëin!

I still haven’t thought of any ideas, and Ludum Dare starts in like three hours.  What do.

Fortunately though I’ve set up my dual-monitors and armed myself with an egg salad sandwich, soymilk, and a shitload of granola bars.

Egg Salad Sammich

First person to accurately guess how many granola bars are in the photo can have my half-eaten sandwich if you’re within driving distance.

Hi-Ho Silver

Alright, I’m in. I have a full complement of Diet Coke, the doors have been locked and the pigs are prepared for takeoff.

I’m not sure whether this time’s effort is going to be 2D or 3D, it depends what the theme is I guess. I fancy doing something in the Amiga 16-bit style, like Turrican or Project X perhaps, but we’ll see.

I decided this time I’m going to do one of those video time-lapse recordings. If anyone can recommend any good software for capturing your desktop, please do so :-)

Oh, and lessons learnt from last time – don’t use D3DX…

Giddy up!

I’m (maybe) in

I’ve missed the past few LDs because I’m a new dad!  I won’t have much time at all, so I’m going to try to make my entry absolutely as simple as possible.  This time around, I’d much rather be unambitious and FINISH than aim for something cool and fail (or, as happened last time, kind of half-finish and then ask for my entry to be withdrawn because it was so embarrassingly bad).

I’ll be using LOVE and maybe vrld’s hump.

I feel your pain. My little girl has just gone to bed at 10pm after napping for 3 hours in the afternoon. I now have 5 hours to kip before the theme is announced. Head down time :)

I’m in.

I’m ready to battle time its self again for the second time.

My tools will:

Code: Xcode 4(IDE) and Openframeworks(Library).

Art: Pixen and Pixelmator.

Sound: CFXR and GarageBand.

I’l most likely end up making an arcade shooter like game, because thats what I do best.

My Battlerig.

Awesome another ofx user!

Working on pc config

This is my second LD. Hope it’s gonna be fun. My first time was pretty bad, didn’t finish the game :/

Well, yesterday I formatted my PC. I’m configuring everything for tonight. I’m still considering if I’m gonna use Flixel or Slick2D. Probably the last one, since I’m a complete noob in Flixel. I really hope “the floor is made of lava” wins.

My Bat-Cave

Here are some images of my bat-cave. I work in the kitchen on a high-chair and table. There is a big fridge for all my needs, a huge selection of beverages, and some leftover food from tonights dinner.

Looking forward to the competition. As it starts at 4am in the morning, I’ll go to sleep for now and come back at 3am to prepare last things.
