LD#20 I’m In

Hello everyone,

this is my first LD and I am somewhat intimidated… for the products (the winning ones ofc) mostly play like they’ve been in development longer than 48h –  yet I am looking forward to the event. There are some unfortunate collisions with university – but since it’s a weekend and GF + Loved Ones gave me off – I’ll give it a go and hope to finish something … sorta.

Tools I Ose:
Graphx: Photoshop
Engine: Flixel or Unity
Audio: Logic & sfxr
IDE: flashdevelop

Good luck to all who dare, now off to get some sleep. Until soon @IRC
-Leaf

Almost wasn’t able

But I’m in. This is my first, and as a relative noob to game design(been toying with it off and on for years) I’ll be using:

Unity – Free version

Photoshop CS5

Lightwave 10(Maybe 3ds for animation, If I can get my friend to let me use his)

Ultimate Unwrap3D pro

Audacity

Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express

Wolfram Tones

I’m both excited and nervous. Hope I can finish out a game. Good luck everyone!

In with sin

I’m doing this, but with a twist.  I will be drinking the entire time I am working on my game.  To make things more fun, I’m using C++ and my custom engine built on Gosu!

I’ve got a collection of beer here, but I had to be fairly picky with what I will be drinking.  I could easily just buy a 30 pack of cheap whatever, but I tend to get black out drunk with really bad hangovers with that stuff.  So I’m drinking Killians, Shiner Bock and some Magic Hat.  I’ve found all of these to be pretty easy drinking for myself, which should help me to continue working and drinking!

I will also be using my livestream since that seemed to work out well last time.  I imagine this time around it will be slightly more amusing however.

My tools of choice are

  • Visual Studio 2010
  • Xcode 3 (yes, I will have an OS X build)
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Inkscape
  • GarageBand
  • sfxr

As I mentioned, I will be doing this in C++ using my engine which is build off of Gosu.  Good luck to everyone else participating!

My base code – sort of

Hello Ludumites,

As promised I have posted pretty much every scrap of reusable (and plenty that isn’t reusable) web game code I’ve ever written, on my brand spanking new wordpress site. Assuming I do end up making a game for LD20 that’s web based and has a server component, then some of this base code will be used. Other than that, everything will be written from scratch. The other libraries involved being node.js, socket.io, jQuery and JSON. Sorry for not getting this blog post together sooner :(

I’ve thrown this together very quickly so if I’ve accidentally left server or database passwords in there then I guess that’s a bonus for anyone who is interested enough to read it :)

now for some sleep

Good Luck everyone!

My node.js and canvas basecode

JACKALOPES!

Well I’ve got my basic concept idea together finally! A science experiment in a Genetic Engineering laboratory has gone awry, and evil jackalopes are terrorizing the area and must be exterminated! The levels get progressively closer to the source of the destruction – the G.E. Lab. In each level the player will have to destroy a Jackalope burrow or whatever they supposably live in :P. The player is a kid, and his father gives him a weapon each round, beginning with a B.B. Gun and getting progressively more destructive until we get to something completely ridiculous. I can’t spoil that yet xD Here’s a random image of a jackalope I got from Google Images to get everyone psyched! Just picture that as an evil mutant Jackalope! :D

PeterFromTom&TheZorg are in

Last minute check-in!

We will be entering the jam, since we kinda have an exam on saturday morning…

Tools (most probably):

  • Flash w/ Flixel
  • bfxr
  • Wolfram Tones? (if there’s not enough time for proper music…)
  • Photoshop
  • Paper (lot’s of it)

EDIT: had forgotten about those little bits of code, maybe gonna use them so here we go: https://github.com/TheZorg/FlxEvents

Wolfram Tones? Hah nice idea 😀 although it doesn’t want to work for me right now. I suspect either Adblock or NoScript.. 😛

    In, but also screwed

I am in. I can’t code, I can hardly draw sprites, and I haven’t even got a vision. But I am still totally and completely in!

Using a old version of game maker to do the gameplay and sprites, while using uncopyrighted music as the sound track. I will probably find a use for that sound effect thingy too.

Hope you lot enjoy the compo,

    Pire

    Looks tasty.

    CONFIRMED FOR BRAWL

Sup guis, like many other posters here, I am entering my first Ludum Dare 48 Hour Competition.

    What are my tools?

Well, the majority of my dev time will be spent using Game Maker 8.0.

Sounds and music will be done in as3sfxr- an online sfxr clone with a font that’s easier (smaller and sharper) on my eyes, and then mixed with Audacity. Graphics will be drawn in old fashioned MSPaint. Sup.
I plan on using starting from scratch… and uh yeah.

    Maybe In?

I’ll be on the fence for participating until I see the theme. Been working on way too much game dev recently and I feel pretty exhausted.

This is Ludum Dare Twenty though! It could be the crazy excitement of Ludum Dare will recharge me!

Maybe I’ll just do a game that is way different from the kinds of games I normally make.  Also I should try really hard to make a game that I won’t be tempted at all to monetize. That way I can treat this as more silly fun and not as just an extension of my normal game studio work.

If I participate it will be with my trusty Flash CS5, Audacity, BFXR, Photoshop, and Reason.

Good luck to everyone (especially you first timers… you’re in for a ride.)

    My idea and a script

I got home from go-karting with my family to see the theme. Didn’t have any ideas beforehand for “It’s dangerous to go alone, take this!” but I think I have one now.

First thing I did was lose my script for creating AS3 files for all the png files, mp3 files, etc. in a directory. Second thing I did was rewrite it in Python (as opposed to the Ruby original). So… that was fun.

As for my idea, what’s important are the items the player is given.Things to take.

    Take These

Of course, those gloves aren’t ordinary. The rocks aren’t either. Net’s strange too. It’ll become clear in time.

    Workspace

If i have 8 seconds lying around, i might try throw something together. If so, here is my workspace.

I guess I’m in what the hell do I do now

I don’t know how I am doing this really. Killing myself seems like a bad idea, I might use macromedia flash instead. A friend showed this to me so I don’t know what’s going on but I guess I’ll make something and submit it somehow.
Whatever I’m going to go do something cool and fun now unlike you people.

don’t worry, while it seems like chaos this event is pretty obvious once it starts, and if you have any questions ask them!

    Ready to dare!

I’m ready for Ludum Dare! I’ll be attending CB2 with many of the other indies in Cambridge!! I spent the last twelve hours eating barbecue and drinking lots of beer, and I’m still awake despite the theme starting in two hours or so. Whoops! 😀

    Code: Unity with C# (Monodevelop).
Audio: Garageband for music, BFXR for sound effects.
Graphics: Photoshop and 3D Studio Max.

This time I’m hoping to make something slightly less scruffy than usual, but we’ll see how that pans out! Good luck everyone!

Net access whilst at CB2 can be spotty, but I’ll try to take some sort of photographs too! Let me know if you have any requests! XD

Just a Reminder – Free Composer, 4 Years Experience

Just posting a little closer to the gun, since it was 4 AM here last time I posted! I’m offering to compose for your Jam/Compo games free of charge, you can visit my portfolio at www.wonthelp.info (I can’t hyperlink it for some reason…)

E-Mail me at superjoebob@hotmail.com if you’re interested, I’m hoping to do all kinds of music in the next few days.

    Thanks for the offer though.

Aww damn, I didn’t even realize. Thanks for the heads up, guess I cant compose for Compo games then.

    Ready!

So I’m in Cambridge to LD with the CB2 folk! I took a photo, but I left my camera at someone’s house so I’ll post it tomorrow.

    I’ll be using:

MMF2 with SWF plugin for the coding
    Photoshop CS2 for the art
    MadTracker2 for the audio

All these software have 2 at the end – I’m assuming that’s lucky. Good luck everyone!
    Rik

    What? Oh. That.

It’s approaching 1am here, so it’s time for the obligatory tech post:

    • Language: Java
    • IDE: Eclipse
    • Libraries: LWJGL, Slick, Rebirth
    • Tools: Paint.net, Pixen, Sfxr

Most of my toolchain setup is a bit rusty, and my secondary hard drive is playing up so I’ve had to quickly rebuild it on my primary hard drive. Seems to be working properly now but some of my utility code (like colour grids) isn’t working, so I’m torn between quickly fixing it now or just going to bed and getting an early start tomorrow…

    Blending with Blender 2.57

Well, I just spent the last 6 or 7 hours with Blender 2.57b watching tutorial vids and reading docs trying to get up to speed on how to rig a model with bones and animate it. I think I’ll be ok with Blender – I even managed to get the import into Unity to work like I want it with all my actions coming over correctly. Now I have two hours to figure out the best way to do UV mapping and texturing. Blender is really complex and huge, but also really cool once you figure things out.  This will be my first 3D attempt with Unity so we’ll see how that part goes…

    2 hours 2 min 2 sec left!

I’m starting to get twitchy and nervous….
    Come on and hurry up!

    PsySal Maybe Entering

This looks to be one gigantic compo! I might create something small for this so I’m doing the obligatory “I’m In” post!

I’ll use ParsePunk together with FlashPunk:

    http://kittylambda.com/parsepunk

I’ve made a few small modifications since the last time I used this but they are all uploaded to the site. Hopefully that fits within the rules, I’ll try and double check the rules if I do end up entering and worst case just throw it into the Jam instead.

See all you sweaty geeks on the other side. Remember food and happiness are actually required to make games. Sleep maybe also is…
