LD20 April 29–May 2, 2011

I’m in!

Hi Guys,

This will be my first “Ludum Dare”, I am free for the whole weekend. Hoping I can finish a whole game. I will be using the software ;

  • Game Maker 8 Pro
  • GIMP

Here is a picture of my working place.

Such spartan furnishings.

I am in

So, I am going to take part in this LD if I can. I wont be spending as much time as I did for 19 on my entry though, but will be using tools I am more familiar with.

Weapons:

  • XNA (c#)
  • Photoshop CS3/Gimp/Paint.Net (depending which PC I use)
  • sfxr
  • My helper classes for XNA

Im planning on making a non-combat game!

Also, I hope this is the 6th post title’d “I am in”! Nifty.

I’m in!

After 2.5 years of development, my engine –  the Cuttlefish Engine (think: a more advanced version of GameMaker, for WP7, iPhone, Android, and web) – is ready to be put through its paces, and this is a perfect way to do so.  Should be fun!

That engine looks pretty nice. I can’t wait to see what you do with it.

In like Flynn

After talking with my good buddy, I’m in. Oh, damn, this is going to be intense.

Language: ActionScript 3

IDE: FlashDevelop

Graphic: Photoshop CS5

Audio: Finale, Sonar 5

Hardware: Hotrod red lenovo laptop, or possibly my custom desktop… darn, I’m going to have to figure that one out

I’ll give it a shot.

First timer here.  I start lots of game-related projects, but rarely finish them. I tend to spend most of my time writing the framework or engine for a game, and by the time I’m actually getting down to writing the game, I’m spent.  Hoping a compo like this will help me break that nonsense.

Tools: Flixel, FlashDevelop, Photoshop, sfxr, Audacity, souls of the damned.

I’m In

This is my first time doing the compo, excited but nervous also!

Tools:
FlashDevelop & FlashPunk
sfxr & audacity
gimp

I’m in too, but only for jam

Real live is a big time consuming mess … damnit 😉

I’ll choose HTML and Javascript as my weapon of choice and will use the framework I build at the last ludum dare.

My AS3 stuff

Hello. So, it seems that I’m back to participate in this LD. It’s been a while. For that reason, and to for once stick to the rules, I’ll be sharing the actionscript 3 code I work with. Lots of halfway-done stuff in there, and nothing terribly interesting, I guess, but hey, I’m just doing this to stick to the rules. You’re free to take what you like from it, though.

Some included things that may be of interest to some: a ‘Brush’ class for drawing applications (that draws nice curves rather than angles and that can also adjust the width of the line depending on the speed of movement); a class to manage Google API AS3 lib image searches; extensions to some EventDispatcher classes that add event listener management; an abstract class for making preloaders; random smaller utilities.

My AS3 stuff

In.

My first time entering LD, or so I hope :-) We’ll see how the weekend goes.

Most likely using Unity3D/C#, the GIMP for graphics, and sfxr/FL Studio for audio.

SHIP IT.

Formal Protest

» Base code and personal code libraries are allowed, but should be declared and shared with the community prior to beginning your entry. To do this, make a blog post.

I want to post a formal protest against the rule (above) that says that my personal library must be shared. It happens that my library is commercial and I can’t share it.

Also, there is no advantage being gained as a popular commercial game engine such as Unity3d is much more complex and complete. Also there is a curve on learning my library which would make it unpractical anyway.

Making it short, please consider dropping this requirement for this or future LD compos  :) (I will be having to participate in the Jam only for this reason)

thanks!

Here is my interpretation of the rules:

Is your commercial library available for sale? If so, then you can use it, no worries.

I would respectfully disagree with you on this point. One of the most appealing things to me about LD is the rule that source and dependencies must be made available.
29. Apr 2011 · 14:44 UTC
I think the reasoning is something like this: There may not be an advantage in your case, but that doesn’t mean everyone is in the same situation. Some people may have very complete engines they would prefer not to share and that would put them at an advantage. Also consider that unity (free) has some missing features which are relatively common in other frameworks.

Do note, “open sourcing” or “public domaining” isn’t required. Just because you release code publicly doesn’t mean you forfeit any rights to it. You’re also not required to provide any instructions for actually building it.

Jammin

Jamming with löve, probably hump, vim, sfxr?

First LD. We are in.

And when I say “we” it’s not like I have a symbiote parasite with its own personality attached to me and trying to take over my regular self driving me nuts.  I’ll be participating in the Jam with two friends. It’s our first time here so there will be a lot of things here that are completely new to us but we are sure we will have a hellin’ good time.

Our framework:

  • Java (for the sake of “multiplatform-ness”)
  • Libgdx (we have never used it before, but it looks like it may minimize the coding time while maximizing the target platforms.  You can’t go wrong with that)
  • Notepad++ (my personal favorite “IDE”).  I don’t know about the personal choices of the rest of the team but it’s probably between Eclipse and Netbeans.
  • Coffee (no, it’s not a library, I mean, actual coffee, the one you drink)
  • Energy Drinks (no explanation needed)
  • Food (probably not of the healthy kind)

I’m not sure if my mates wi’ll be participating again but I think I’ll be taking on this challenge at least a second time (it depends on lot of things, but that’s what I plan).  I’m really excited about this competition and I strongly encourage newcomers and veterans alike to give their best on this challenge -and above everything else- enjoy it!

First time here

Newb going solo. First time.

language stuff: Java!, with lwjgl and maybe slick or jme middleware
arts: photoshop/paint.net/ms paint
sound: sfxr & ??

Pink monitors, like a total baller.

T minus eight and a half hours

It’s 19:30 here, Ludum Dare will start 4 o’clock in the morning

everything prepared

will get some sleep now, last chance 😛

Finally

Unity … check
3ds Max … check
Photoshop … check
BFXR … check
Music making … fail
Base code … n/a

Hello from mother Russia!
Starting at 6 of morning. Wait…OH SHI

Ecce ego particeps

Didn’t want to do the same title as everyone else, so decided to translate “I am going to participate” to latin in Google translate… It’s kind of awesome, to be honest… :)

Anyway, same drill as always.. C++ with DX for graphics and FMOD for audio, through use of a small framework I’ve built on in previous competitions (nothing game related, just some helpful functions):

My framework just features:

  • D3D9 initialization and some helpers
  • FMOD interface for sound
  • 2d Sprites
  • 2d Particle System (extended the old one, now supports different colors through the lifetime of the particle)
  • Text (now working in full screen!)
  • 3ds file loading (only tested with 3ds generated by 3d Studio Max). Loads lights, meshes and cameras.
  • Small simple math library (vectors and quaternions)
  • Simple 3d camera handling system (just look at operation)
  • XML loading/saving (might come in handy for configuration files, load/saves, etc. The XML loader was created by Frank Berghen, not me… the writer is all me, although the loader also has save functions, but I’m too lazy to figure out how they work)
  • 3d particle system (based on the 2d one, so very rudimentary)
  • 3d sprite system (quads that always face the camera)
  • LUA library support (it’s actually ripped from my engine, so it’s a good support system for LUA)… Want to try scripting tutorial and cutscenes…
  • DDS image loading for an offscreen buffer (just supports R8G8B8A8 images) – probably going to use it for map design (instead of the usual text file thing)

On the tools side:

  • Visual Studio 2005 (hope I can get used to it again, been using 2010 at work)
  • Photoshop CS5 (for 2d graphics and textures if I decide to adventure into 3d, and for map creation, etc)
  • 3d Studio Max (for modelling if I go 3d, or for title screens and such otherwise)
  • sfxr (or Bfxr) (for audio effects)
  • Wolfram Tones (for the music creation – fun tool, saves loads of time) and MIDI Converter Free (to convert the MIDI generated by Wolfram Tones to OGG)

The themes don’t look very promising this time, to be honest… loads of them seem like they’ll just spawn the same game over and over again from different people, but I’m just a grumpy old coder… :)

Anyway, very excited, haven’t done a single line of game code for ages, need to get that out of my system to go back to the real (boring albeit well-paying) world… :)

Good luck everyone!

I’m ready, bring it on!

All is in readiness. I planned to hit the sack early and get up at 3am when the theme is announced, but my 3-year-old girl has fallen asleep this afternoon so getting her off to bed will now be a bit of a nightmare…

It’s funny, but by the end of the 48 hours I *did* feel like a wizened old man…

I’m in, first time to enter a Ludum Dare Compo!

Yay, the title says it all! I’m joining, and I may need a longer time to develop my own because I’m going to church this Sunday. Anyways……

Game Engine –> Game Maker 8.O Lite

Graphics –> Microsoft Vista Paint (I’ll the graphics of my game on my own.)

Sound Effects –> Game Maker 8.O Sounds, Others

Music –> MP3-Codes.Com, Others
