LD 43 November 30–December 3, 2018

Progress day 1

We did not manage to do all the things we wanted on the first day so we might have to cut some of all the ideas we have tomorrow. But we'll see... Hopefully tomorrow is a productive day and please no last minute submissions this time.

Learning Godot 3

We're learning how to use Godot 3 during this jam!

So far the experience has been way better than I could've hoped for. With only one major exception, Godot is looking to be the best game engine I've ever worked with!

The major exception is the InputEvent system. As far as I've seen, there's no easy way to set the touch focus (no, setting "touch is handled" is not enough). There's also no distinction between the moment of state change and state held, physics colliders handle mouse/touch input in a different way, and all of those things lead to major pains when working with mouse/touch inputs. (Handling multitouch seems nigh impossible too...).

On the other hand, Godot thankfully does not use Box2D for its 2D physics, and it SHOWS (that physics engine is awful, I wonder why so many engines use it).

Day 1 Complete

The first day of LD 43 so far so good. Scrapped one idea and made this. Any thoughts? https://gfycat.com/HoarseUnderstatedGrison

check out the "latest" version of a thing that isnt good

requires python and pygame and a windows computer for the sound

if you dont have windows then go into the sound one and add try and except to the play thing(I will fix that later)

Feeding the Robot

Thought I'd do a quick progress update before heading to bed. Below is a bare-bones view of how the overall level design will look, it's going to be a sort horrifying dystopian lemmings.

Day 1: Good progress made

after the initial designing and quick implementation we made within the first two hours me and my team went to bed as it was 4AM, after getting some sleep we get straight back to work and have made steady progress throughout the day and have almost all our main features implemented. However due to lack of experience certain issues have arose that have held us back.

Despite inexperience we have managed to get the art assets for the player character, the players weapon and projectile, and three separate enemy sprites created alongside the basic features needed to get a working prototype. with 19 hours down we still have 2 days left to get the game up and running. so far we've got a wandering enemy that chases the player and a player that can run around and shoot arrows.

So far

we have just started getting some core mechanics down, but we are just getting startedwasd.png

Unexpected Feature

So I was just playing around with collisions in my game, and I just realized that you could shoot yourself to go faster. Unfortunately, that wont work in my game, but I thought it was an interesting idea for a platformer/runner game. You could sacrifice your health to save yourself, or make you go faster.

End of day 1

Our first Ludum Dare gamejam. We set out to compete with the three of us but unfortunately one of us had other plans that got in the way. Dispite that, we're really proud of what we made in under a day! LudumDare43Day1.png

Our first graphics and mechanics merge :D

WalkWithPig.gif

We created lots of graphics and code for now and we decided to merge it together. So, now our viking is going with his first sacrifice!

Progress has been made!

Closing my first day of Ludum Dare 43 with an almost working... thing. Doesn't have a name, nor a full gameplay loop, but you can set buildings on fire and for some people that's all what matters. ezgif.com-optimize (42).gif

This is [supposed to be] a small game about a small world where one CHARACTER_TYPE must juggle various sacrifices to please different gods and keep the village safe-ish.

Playable version tomorrow! Unless my body decides that it's flu season after all. 🐷

Progress??

Well, my team and I have worked... 6... 7 hours..? On our game and it's looking good! I don't want to share much right now, but I can share some concept art!

We should hopefully have a couple levels done by the end of the day (So in 4 hours from this post.)

Good luck everyone!

Having a skeleton is nice

Decided to get around to rigging my human model
