LD 43 November 30–December 3, 2018

3rd attempt at doing a Ludum Dare.. hopefully ^^'

This is my 3rd attempt to complete a Ludum Dare. The first time I had problems with the theme and tried to do a game which was way to much work for me and my knowledge. The second time I totally failed because of time and other stuff and didn't post anything. The first day of this LD is nearly over and I got some ground tiles, a character (which I use as a placeholder, because I want to use it as an NPC. So I still have to do my main character ^^') and the ability to move said character a little. All in all not that much, but I will try to do better on the 2nd day. I just want to say I will try my best, but I can't promise I will make it -_-'

2 hours lost. 1 needless mistake

I am using Ludum Dare to help me migrate from Unity Script to c#. I knew a subtle mistake was on the cards and boom there it was. I won't do that again!

Day one progress

Realising at six in the evening that it was this weekend I got a kinda late start. I plan for the compo, but will probably end up in the jam with that little blunder. After some stressed deliberation I decided to make a game about pleasing a god with sacrifices just so you don't get zapped. Your job will be to make sure you don't run out of sacrifices. The sacrifices are sea creatures, I don't know why, but I'm too lazy to change it at this point. But maybe I won't be in the morning, who knows! Most of the time has been spent getting basic stuff down as I'm a tiny bit rusty after months of doing nothing related. Despite the rust I managed to get down most of the base and some entity movement and interaction, even if it isn't the greatest. 1-2506png.png Right now it's all programmer graphics until I get some mechanics down(other than bad fish movement). But Hopefully I'll be able to fix it up soon! I wish all you all overnighters good luck but I myself will need sleep before resuming tomorrow.

Boits Update

Got most of the heavy lifting out the way, got a nice flexible entity setup to create as many groups and implemented the sacrificial combat mechanic between the Boit clans. Also implemented a movable camera system so between those level design and tying it up with endgame mechanics and resource collection/Boit upgrades should be a piece of cake

Here we go!

So I haven't said much about this LD yet, but here is a screenshot of what I have so far.

The basic premise of my game is that you are a caveman. You have to hunt animals and bring food back for your tribe. It's going to be pretty basic but I am working on implementing a system where you can sacrifice your cave people and eat them in order to gain new abilities such as strength, speed, etc. Not sure if I will finish in time but I am having a lot of fun and like the look! Let me know what you think, thanks!

For those who dares, are you in ?

Teasing of our game, with original gameplay challenging design ;)

Started extremely late, but I'm working my ass of to make this into something fun. It's going to be a puzzle game about bouncing on trampolines :D

End of Day One

When the theme as announced, the only idea I had in my notepad for "Sacrifices will be Made" was a "Diet Simulator". Judging by the image of fruit in a blender, I immediately saw how redundant and predictable that idea was. I slept on it, and came up with an idea based on a mechanic one of my friends brought up.

LD43-00002.gif

I need a name for it (ideas are welcome!), it's gonna be a robot action platformer in a similar style to Super Crate Box, but the challenge is that the robot on its own might not be strong enough to go through the levels. As such, you can make the robot faster or its weapons stronger by sacrificing its controls. You can disable moving left, or jumping or one of its weapons to give it a boost.

Today has been primarily gameplay, and if I'm honest, I'm pretty optimistic with how this is going compared to LD42. I'm actually further in the gameplay than I was yesterday, and I still have the entire day tomorrow to deal with graphics and sound. All I have to do is not go overboard with those assets.

Сeltic fun

Finally finished the core gameplay prototype. Now we can sleep:) xmas.gif

OK. Day One. Complete. Before my eyes drop.

Wanted to stop at 10PM, ended up working till midnight. sigh well, at least I got literally all of the main mechanics done. LD 43 Gif 3.gif The post-round area is complete and I've polished up some of the pre-existing mechanics with minimal balancing. That reminds me that I haven't explained the game at all.

Essentially, galaga-like bullet-hell game where you must keep your oxygen levels high enough so your crew doesn't die. You lose some Oxygen: at the end of every round (determined by your crew number, the thing under the O2 value is the amount lost) and when you're hit by enemy attacks. You can reduce the amount Oxygen lose by ejecting your crew reducing your Oxygen loss, though your fire rate will suffer as a result or at the end of every round destroying a ship which grants you some instant oxygen though they can't aid you in the fight now. That's the bulk of it.

I can now spend the whole of Sunday polishing the balls out of this game as it feels extremely flat right now. But it's been some really successful hours of game dev today. See you tomorrow!
