First LD!

Themes_Slaughtered.PNG Did my part in slaughtering the themes, getting pumped up for my first ever game jam! I'll be using Unity and Maya as my primary tools, anyone have some advice for quick music/sfx? I've heard Bosca Ceoil is pretty good.

I'm in!

I'm in for the 9th time, can't get enough of LD ^^ It will be right before Amaze, a festival for indie developers, but let's do this anyway!

I'll be using Stencyl as engine & Aseprite for Pixelart and aim at making something that feels as close to a complete browser game as possible. So probably keep things very simple and polish a lot. Maybe also jam with someone this time around :)

Favorite, free LDJam tools

Hi! As this is my 9th time around, I thought I'd share the tools I found most useful over the years.

Engine: Stencyl (makes coding quick and easy)
Timelapse: Chronolapse
Audio: https://freesound.org/, http://opengameart.org/ (if you jam) + Audacity
Graphics: Aseprite (for pixelart) or Krita (for drawing) + GIMP (for Layer export & sprite sheet plugins)
EDIT: Aseprite is only free on Linux, but well worth buying.

All those tools are free to use & cross-platform (I dev on Linux Mint) :)

Donkey Kong WR

Anyone seen the great films about the Donkey Kong world record saga? Today the holder Billy Mitchell was stripped of all his records, looks like he was playing on an emulator rather than the original PCB...

LD38 Protolife on Steam (Yes, We Are In)

Great to see you again guys!

It took us almost a year to prepare our LD38 entry for Steam release. Meet Protolife:

While the work is still in progress we decided to take a little break for LD41.

Because Ludum Dare is such a breath of fresh air each time for us. And I hope for you too.

So here is our usual setup:

4 Ludum Dare Mistakes to Avoid

With LDJAM 41 a week away here is an article I wrote about 4 common mistakes I find people make with their LDJAM games https://medium.com/@jesfish/4-ludum-dare-mistakes-to-avoid-9beb762751dd

Done and almost ready!

Finished the sorting of theme candidates.

Hope I can skim through the Godot course by GDQuest to get a better chance with the upcoming Ludum Dare :)

How can I tell if I've signed up for this Ludum Dare?

Hi everyone,

I've been watching the Ludum Dare this year coming up, and have been watching for where to join the event. Am I already in? I'm wanting to submit a game that will be made by myself and a friend for Ludum Dare, however I have no clue wherever or not I'm signed up yet.

Is there any way to tell? Cheers.

Philosophical Question: What constitutes a First Game?

I spent my whole life so far attempting to make and finish a game, and I spent a smaller amount of time trying to enforce that my first game would be carefully constructed and legitimately, unambiguously defined.

Trying to make a game under these rules when you're 12 and don't know how to
program, however, has semantic consequences.

Fast forward to now, and it's actually pretty vague if I really have made a game in my life, or what my first game will technically be. Is it what I post in Ludum Dare 10 days from now? Is it Ferst or FACE of this decade? Was it something I threw together a long time ago in Microsoft Powerpoint? Oh hell, was it Ebnosis from 2008 gamemaker all along, which got compiled but didn't even have traces of original code?

Last month, I thought about things a bit harder.
I decided that if I was going to sanction my first game anywhere near the way I wanted to, Ludum Dare would be a good choice - it would be perfect for being understood and to retcon that garbage Ebnosis game.

Before that, I was still progressing pretty well with projects and even before that I was learning how to code.

In no chronological order whatsoever, this is what I was working on kinda recently before I let myself participate in Ludum Dare.

I'll finish these eventually, but for now, it's time to fry a small and speedy fish.

Returning after sadly missing the last two!

Hi Guys!

Just a quick note to say I'll be back for this round of Ludum Dare, after I unfortunately missed the last two. @PoV Love the work you've done on the website since I last helped out! (It's good to see my clocks still there )

Anyways, good luck to everyone!

My first game jam

Team up?

Hi there!

I'm really looking forward to this jam and was wandering if anyone wanted to team up. I'm a programmer, mostly working in Unity and would like to team up with someone who does art/design 🙂

Done !

I don't know how you guys do it

After reading a couple hundred theme suggestions my brain gave up and I found myself unable to judge which themes are good and which one are bad.

Congratulation to everyone who manage to go through every themes!

Prepairing for LD41

Team in formation, Let's see how it's like to work with other people...

☠️ S L A U G H T E R E D ☠️

Man, I guess I was really picky!

This is the first time in following Ludum Dare literally since it began (yes, I'm that old) that I will be able to fully participate. All of my life obligations have miraculously lifted; I have two full days to put into this without interruption. I'm kind of excited.
