LD 41 April 20–23, 2018

I'm in.

I’m in. Tried 4 months ago and very much enjoyed the slaughter, but didn’t actually have time to do the jam in the end. Using Pico8 and Aseprite.

I'm in.

Aaaand I'm in! It's been a while since I last took part in LD!

If you're looking for an artist, hit me up! I'm a 2D artist and a game designer who's got 4 years of experience at game jamming and I've worked on actual game projects too. Check out my portfolio: https://ranquil.artstation.com/

I'm in for LD41

I'm excited for LDJAM 41. This time around, I am using TypeScript for my main language. The tools I am planning on using include:

  • Microsoft Visual Studio Code
  • TypeScript
  • Pyxel Edit
  • Ableton Live 10
  • Various analog synthesizers for music and sound effects

Some limitations on my process include

  • Limited controls
    • Keys/gamepad: Escape/Space/Enter, Up/Down/Left/Right and One action button
    • One button mouse
    • I'm considering a configuration option where ZQSD is a control option versus WASD.
  • 5:4 aspect ratio, 8x8 sprites, tile backgrounds/foregrounds

Base code

http://f5izbq2cidyxpo2j.onion/user_/ld41-warmup (If you have Tor)

https://f5izbq2cidyxpo2j.onion.to/user_/ld41-warmup (If you don't use Tor, this is a less-secure way to get there)

The code is all AGPLv3 and I'll be updating it through the week.

There is a rule somewhere that you have to declare your base code to avoid people writing the entire game before the compo starts.

Every LD I feel like I'm in a grey zone because I like to work on the base code right up until compo starts.

Reasons I maybe shouldn't do this:

  • It's against the spirit of the basecode rule
  • I know people won't really use my code, because nobody ever does

Reasons I do it anyway:

  • I don't usually vote on enough games to rank, so disqualifying me wouldn't be a big loss.
  • Most of y'all are starting with Unity which is a damned bigger headstart than I'm getting - This is all my own code built on SDL and other libre code. (IQM, stbvorbis, stbimage, etc.)

I'm in ! And with music this time

maxresdefault.jpg

You have no clue how to compose music, and have zero knowledge of music theory ? Fear no more ! Just open Bosca Ceoil and press your mouse buttons randomly until something bearable comes out of your speakers.

Here is my second attempt at creating some music !

Listen to it on Clyp.it

Let me know if you have any tips or references, I genuinely have no idea what I'm doing... I also accept insults and threats if it makes you feel any better, you listened to my crappy loop after all !

The slaughter is over

Finished the slaughter. I feel I was very generous with the yeses this time around. Bring on the voting.

Team Cocoa Moss is IN for LD41!

DDRKirby(ISQ) here! I'm happy to report that @xellaya and I will be joining in for the fun of Ludum Dare 41!

This'll be my 18th time participating in Ludum Dare, and my 10th time working together with @xellaya. I seem to have caught a small cold this weekend but should probably be able to recover in time for the jam, and already scheduled Friday and Monday off of work to focus on LD. This is the first time since 2016 that we'll be jamming as just a team of two -- we're pretty excited!

As always, I'll be using some janky starter code, as well as the standard rundown of tools:

  • Unity3D with Monodevelop as IDE, deploying to WebGL
  • FL Studio for music and audio
  • LabChirp and Freesound for any additional sfx needs
  • Paint Tool SAI/Photoshop/Illustrator for @xellaya's art and animation
  • GIMP for any additional image processing I need to do on my end
  • Aseprite if we do any pixel art
  • Tiled and Tiled2Unity if we end up needing tilemaps

TODO list between now and the jam:

  • Theme voting!
  • Stock up on groceries and food
  • Update Unity, make sure everything still works
  • Setup Unity and Bitbucket projects, and Dropbox shared folder

My personal goals for this time around? Well...last time we made two games and took 1st place with one of them, so I think taking it easy sounds pretty good. But how about:

  • Don't kill myself (I think this should be a goal every time from now on)
  • Try taking a stronger top-down approach to design (evaluate every piece in the context of the whole)
  • Make something fun!

See you all at the starting line!

I'm in!

Woah! The first LudumDare of 2018! I'm super excited to see what I can come up with. My schedule this week lines up just right to give me the time I need to participate so I'll be at full game development power!

I’ll be using the same software I always do:

🍏 Construct2: HTML5 game creation software!

🍏 Aseprite: Pixel art program!

🍏 GIMP: Open source photo editor!

🍏 LSDJ and bgb: Authentic Gameboy synthesizer and emulator!

🍏 Audacity: Open source sound editor!

🍏 itch.io: Storefront/games host!

PS: For those who played my last entry and are waiting for the remake I've been teasing, I'll be finishing up and releasing it (hopefully!) sometime this summer. I've been very busy with my studies lately so development has taken longer than I anticipated.

I'm in

Will be joining this Ludum Dare again :D.

Will be using the following:

Engine: Unity3D Graphics: Photoshop, Maya LT and Qubicle Audio: Audacity and Audition (maybe FL Studio) Code: Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code Source Control: Git

Several days and theme slaughtering sessions later...

Well that took a bloody long time. I think we all have some serious OCD... LD41 - Theme Slaughter.png Anyway, I saw a lot of cool themes in there that got my creative juices flowing, hoping at least one of those themes gets picked. If not, I'll make do of course.

Now to do a little more practicing in Unity, Gimp, and FL Studio this week to get ready for my first foray into Ludum Dare. Goodluck everyone!

I'm in.

First LD jam :D

I'm In!

Will be my first LD and first game

I'm in

Last tried this 4 years ago =). Will be using Godot, Photoshop, and Audacity.

Vega Durban Goooooo

We're in. I'll be leading a bunch of ragtag misfits in creating their first game for a LD Jam!

And here we are again… :(

What a good start : first bunch of 16 themes, half of them are mechanics limitations or mendatory elements. Hey guys, if you want to add some constraints on your game, go ahead, but don't force everyone to do the same… T_T

First solo LDJam!

Hello everyone! This here will be my first ever solo LDJam and I'm quite excited to finally manage to participate. This time I want to completely focus my efforts on creating a simple, funny game. In short: not taking myself too serious!

I'm a huge fan of games as an art form, but I feel lately I've been too aggressive with that, trying to give everything in my games a "meaning". I'll use this LDJam to finally have some fun again and make people laugh! Invoking feelings is what it's all about right?

Have a nice day everyone, and an amazing week leading up to the Jam!

Real World Gatherings

If you have a real world gathering, please post it to the list, I'm looking for somewhere to join for the weekend.

Going back to game dev after 8 months. I'm in for my second compo

Last game I developed was from Ludum Dare 39: Running out of power. I haven't been into game dev these past several months because we've got lots of school works, and my research group needed to cram a research project which is about biochemistry.

PS: I hate biology and chemistry, these past 8 months felt like an eternal hell, but I managed to get pass through it and I'm back to the thing that makes me happy the most, game dev.
