Chill retro RPG loop

I'm still working hard trying to get a feel for music composition, in preparation for the jam.

Here is my loop, just out of the oven ! I hope it gives you some inspiration for your own game 😁

Tips and remarks are very welcome, I just began learning this stuff.

Also I recommend to anyone who is afraid of composing music to at least try and open Bosca Ceoil and follow the tutorial before the jam. Even better if you can follow a video tutorial online. You'll be surprised what you can achieve with very little effort and zero background.

Have fun !

I'm in

First time participating, so hyped about it! Hope to make a game so people can have fun playing it.

I'm in (I hope)!

Last time it was hard for me to find some nice idea but still it was great to work on something interesting and I really enjoyed being part of this incredibly creative and inspiring community. So now I'm back and hopefully I'll come up with something I can share with you.

I'm going to use: - Engine: Unity - IDE: Visual Studio 2017 - Graphics: Blender - Sound: bfxr

Looking forward to see your work.

Have fun and good luck!

Second Ludum Dare in a row, but this time it's different...

Last Ludum Dare I joined with 2 of my friends and it was a really fun experience. However, we made a lot of mistakes: we overslept a few HOURS the first day, we had broken UI, because Blender has the z-axis as the up & down axis the exports of models were rotated wrongly (and downscaled for another reason) and we made various other game related.

This time though... this time I'm going to join with 7-8 friends. We're going to be EIGHT OR NINE PEOPLE WORKING ON THIS GAME. Also: my experience with 3d modeling and game development using Unity has increased a lot and unlike last time we are (mostly) going to be in the same room / building so communication will be better.

I have high confidence that this round will go better and although managing such a large team might prove to be difficult I am certain that we will manage.

I'll be using game maker 2, pyxeledit and GarageBand .

have fun everyone!

We are in !!!

This is our first time to join in ludum dare.

I am the programmer and my friend Gao is the artist.

We want to make a simple but beautiful game!!

I'm in for LD41, Maybe a Jam entry this time?

I'm in!

  • Unity
  • Visual Studio
  • Blender

Streaming live for the whole event: https://www.twitch.tv/grahamweldon

I've participated a bunch of times, and even managed to get a game on steam from a previous LD, but I feel like aiming to make a JAM entry as a fallback option might be good, because I've failed to complete the Compo entries recently.

Good luck to everyone, and have fun!

I'm in!! This time i'm going to go for "jam", so i'm very excited. The themes are a bit disappointing... i'll be using godot <3

Themes Choices

In the end the theme maybe different then past themes, but why is it that the options to vote for are always the same? Can’t we think of better themes? This maybe only my second entry this time... but I’ve been following for quite some time.

Preparing the Hype

It's been a year since I last participated in this event, but I've finally got the time to spare in between work, uni deadlines, and trying to launch the game I made in last year's jam. I'm working with some friends from uni again and I'm excited for what theme will be chosen, though only two so far are looking good. Either way, it will be another fun challenge, and another game to place in my portfolio or hide in a folder that no one but me will see or care about. See you all on the other side.

Change User Name

Is it possible to change user's name somehow?

Yeaaah

Oh boy I'm super pumped for this! This'll my first LD since 31. ヽ(゜∇゜)ノ

Obligatory software list incoming. - Photoshop - Pyxel Edit (This is my go-to pixel editor, it just works for me) - Game Maker Studio 2 - all the good procedural generators - I have no idea what to use for music...

Good luck everyone, but more importantly have fun!

Theme Round Voting 2: Opinion!

Hello again! Another round of voting has passed an, therefore, another day of voting has risen. I was slightly disappointed with the themes last time around, BUT... well... who am I kidding, they're still bad.

*(-1)You are what you eat: *I dislike how this theme suggests that your game needs to have some form of consumption mechanic in it. This sounds more like a mechanic for a game rather than a theme.

*(-1)Shelter: *Suggests a place which I'm not a fan of.

*(0)Inconvenient superpowers: *Originally was going to give this a +1 however after considering some of the points previously made about "unusual magic" I decided to drop it to a 0. For one, I can understand why an "inconvenient" superpower can be very limiting. This and the fact that there has to be a line between just a "power" and a "superpower".

*(-1)Keep growing: *Too similar to a previous theme "Growing".

*(0)Switching perspective: *Interesting idea. There's definitely going to be some interesting games based on this. The only problem is that I feel most games are going to be about: Cameras, View of another character or some weird dimension thing.

*(-1)Signal Lost: *This theme gives me horrible deja vu of LD39 (Running out of Power). Otherwise, the theme, in general, doesn't strike me as very interesting.

*(-1)One weapon, many purposes: *mmmm. My heart says "YES" but my brain says "NO". This is my kind of theme, but I can understand that a lot of people aren't interested in making a game with weapons in it. A better theme would have been a tool with many purposes.

*(+1)Colour changes everything: *Not sure what people's obsession is with colour. Welp here's another colour theme. I would actually like "colour" as a theme, it's very open for interpretations and I can see some interesting ideas come from this. It's my kind of theme.

*(-1)Shrinking world: *Suggests a scenario. Not a fan.

*(-1, maybe 0)You control the scenario, not the character: *This can actually be implemented pretty interestingly, however, I feel like many games are going to be way out of scope also this isn't a theme I'm not a fan of in general.

*(0)Control multiple characters: *Similar to the last one. I can see some interesting ideas from this. I feel like most concepts are going to be easier to implement and also I find it more interesting.

*(-1)You are being watched: *No thanks. Suggests a scenario.

*(+1)Don't stop moving: *Originally gave it a 0. But after some thinking, I realized, "Hey, you can actually do a lot with this." This could be seen as moving physically, moving progressively, moving with time. Lots of ideas spring to mind with this theme!

*(-1)If you can't see it, it doesn't exist: *Doesn't make sense to me. 99% of the time (unless it's invisible) when I can't see something, then yes, you are correct, it doesn't exist.

*(0)You control the environment, not the character: *Prefer the Round 1 version of "The environment changes you" as it still allows me to make a controllable character. This theme just seems to be a more limiting version.

*(+1)You really shouldn't mix those: *This one can actually be kind of fun. I shouldn't mix what? Genres? Drinks? Certain types of creatures? This one is probably my favorite out of all of them.

And that's another round of voting done. Thanks for reading. If you agree, disagree, whatever feel free to comment below. Otherwise have a good Tuesday!

I'm in

Hi! its my first time i want to help!! Software:

Photosop

Unity

Game maker

Construct2

Spine/dragonbones

8bitmusic

Granger GameDev is In!

We are going to try this again! Last time we had twelve artists and three programmers. We had an awesome looking game with some egregious missing parts in the code that kept us from finishing. We are going to be more balanced this time, so wish us luck!

hi'm in

Hi I'm in! No idea what platform I'll be using. Possibly raw Javascript/HTML5 stuff, or maybe Unity. Depends what the game calls for I guess! Wheeee

Finally going in

Okay, let's finally do it. After skipping LDs for this or that reason for like two years, I'm now ready. This time I have a half-baked ASCII-art gamedev lib and I'm gonna give it a ride in this year's Compo.

I am finally in!

I've been lurking around this website for quite awhile and I wanted to change that and participate. Been in a couple of game jams on itch.io, but I think I'm ready (I hope I am atleast).

Here is the list of software I think I'm going to use:

-Unity

-Audacity or Adobe Audition

-Photoshop

-Blender

-(Not quite sure what to use for music yet...)

A GameLabs update!

Hello!

I'm building GameLabs, a Unity visual scripting extension for fellow jammers. 10 minutes ago, a major update with a second demo game and several new components was released!
