LD 42 August 10–13, 2018

I'm in!

Going to be trying out Construct 3 for this LD, first time I'll make something with it. After thinking a while and looking at other people's ideas, I liked a lot the concept of space as a resource. How will I implement this? My idea is to make an action game where you play as a strange death blob. By blowing up, you kill any enemy in your radius, but you make the space around you untraversable. The idea is to make the best of your attacks because if you just spam you'll run out of space and won't be able to run from enemies. Have a lot of nice ideas I can add to this, but I wanna try them out before commiting!

We are a small team, and there are no more teams in kilometers. So we made a Discord, if you wanna join, show your things and just talk during brakes (or ask for assistance).

Ideas I won't use, so it's all yours

An idea's worth nothing, except here, maybe that'll help, here are some of my brainstorming ideas that I'm giving away. If an idea seems a little bit too abstract, don't hesitate to ask for clarifications if it's something you'd like to dig.

  • A game where you have to place furnitures delivered to your door; The delivery guy is coming to your door on a regular or random interval and you have to get smart about the placement you chose to not get overwhelmed; If you run out of space, you lose.
  • A city is growing with restricted resources. You have to manage your budget to be able to grow and buy new land for new inhabitants; The budget comes from taxes, which comes from people, you also have to make sure people have a job to keep them paying taxes; if you're bankrupt, game over, if you're not able to house a certain amount of new inhabitants (let's say it's a country rule that you have to have x new inhabitants per day/year/etc..), game over.
  • You're a consulting company, you start alone and you have to do contracts. You have to grow by employing new people to get new contracts. You're limited in space, so you have to buy new desks or places. If you employ someone and you don't have space left, he/she can't work. People cost money (yeah, like in real life you know); If you're late on your contracts, your clients will not be happy and you get penalties. If you're bankrupt, you lose.
  • You run a warehouse of

Getting on the train as it's leaving

This Ludum Dare really came out of left field for me. Normally I have a week to prepare myself mentally and reserve time for Ludum Dare, but this time I somehow had missed the date completely. I don't have any other commitments for the weekend however, so I guess I'm in!

I personally think this is a pretty good theme, for the record.

Surprise

Just found out LD was even going to happen, so although I missed out on almost the first two hours, I think I'll join with a relatively simple and quick idea I just had. I think I'll be working with JS + HTML5, although it wouldn't be the first time I change my mind about what I use to make a jam game halfway through.

Let's Jam

Just woke up so let's do this! Not a huge fan of the theme but I hope I can think of something fast.

What does a wagon wheel have to do with running out of space you ask? You will have to find out..

Alright chums, lets do this!

First LD attempt. Using Phaser CE, Gimp, Bosca Ceoil, Sublime 2. Hoping to get something working in time to submit for compo.

Making a Tag like game in a shrinking arena.

The First Step!

Obviously the first step to any gamejam is to make a derpy giraffe:

Plan: Reductive Inventory Management

Prototype.png

You start with a ship that, perhaps, has already ran out of space, but then you need to load in more things (probably some refugees?), and need to choose what to get rid of and try to continue surviving.

Gameplay will alternate between "inventory management" (choosing what to get rid of to replace with your precious cargo), and encounters where you toggle power levels to a bunch of different sub-systems. I think this will work, if I can complete it in time =).

An Idea has born

After discussing with the team, I think we find a great idea. We all know we are running out of space during rush hours. Yes.. Let's see how we will create a game out of it.

My first LD

Using Construct 2, asperite/PS/spriter pro, sfxr/BoscaCeoil I am sketching out ideas 1.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg

I'm in!

I think I have a pretty good idea here. Essentially a parody of modern RPG games. Should have some content to share shortly.

Tools: * Godot 3.x * GIMP * Aseprite * SFXR * Audacity * Roland RD700NX

Thinking 'bout stuffs

So, running out of... "Space", huh? Well, the universe can only get so big...

Big thanks to our beautiful illustrator katerina24111998 for the sprites.

I'm in!

After, I think, 6 LDs absent (life's been crazy) I'm finally attempting a come back! This time I will try UE4 with Blender and Gimp! I have an idea that maaaybe won't need music, but in case I do, I'm going with LMMS and Audacity~

Well, good luck everyone!

Two hours in

Code not working... I have a feeling it is Unity. Nonetheless I cannot keep wasting time on an incompetent game engine. I will have to brainstorm for a new idea.

OVERALL STATUS: TERRIBLE.

STATUS CHANGE: UPBEAT TO TERRIBLE.

Loveapplegames is in!

Good luck and have fun everyone!

Idea finaly chosen

Have you already waited for soo long in line for some reason in a public department? This places are always full of people... For our game we chose the post offices, and you can not let the department fill up with people and run out of space, also neds to run against the time to deliver all packages correcly... Sorry postmans XD
