Idea found !

Idea found !

My project keep simply but it can be evolved ! :D

Taking the easy way out...

I am hopelessly uncreative, and have had no particularly good ideas at this point in the jam.

I sort of want to make a space shooter, so I'll simply make a bullet hell, which is "running out of space" by default.

I think I'll also add in a "shrinking horizontal movement" mechanic to make it fit the theme slightly better.

Settled on an Idea

Gonna make a small RPG I thinks. Got a simple map and some planning done so far. The map will get destroyed as you progress, but there will be ways to 'reset' to acquire more things before you fight the boss. Resetting will require you to sacrifice a character to the god of time (Greek of Latin? Chronus/Kronos or Tempus Dominus?) thus diminishing your party and inventory space. That's 3 axes of 'space' that can run out.

Player will start in the centre; outermost tiles die first but will contain the best items - will the player risk it and go for them first or wait until a reset or two? Kinda got a Majora's Mask feel to it.

Decided to risk it and go for an isometric perspective.

Detonation Dice

My game is going to have some gameplay elements of Devil Dice. Roll and push matched dice faces to remove matched chains of dice before the container fills up. Detonation Dice.png

Made a plan

Joined a bit late and i was considering not doing Ld but now i think, why not? i don't really have anything better to do.

I have a basic plan and hopefully i'll get it done in time. With that being said, i don't like crunching so i won't be working on it constantly and i'll stop to play a game or read a book.

My go at LD42

Running out of space  ... not exactly my most beloved theme. However, I think it is one that thoroughly guides you towards a certain type of play, so I think it is actually a very good theme!

Also, not having a theme directly related to Douglas Adams beloved increasing inaccurate trilogy is actually a good thing, because one can combine a gameplay related theme (Running out of space) with any type of environment theme (I'll try to count how many will use a Hitchhiker theme in the end  )

I will continue where I left with Hanoi - city of scooters in LD41, and will create another Massively Singleplayer Game (if time permits), this time (of course) placed in space and based upon one of the more major hilarious concepts of the Hitchhiker’s Guide: Intergalactic Bar Billiards! Of course, this name is now already taken, and we have 2018, with the tendency to oversimplify things I will call it - drumroll :drum: -

Space Billiards

The plan so far is:

You will have to help your planet :camping: (and it’s 10 billion inhabitants) to survive a game of Space Billiards. Planets are billiard balls :8ball:, Suns are billiard pockets :hole:, lasers behave like billiard cues :closed_umbrella: and of course there is the obvious space-time-distorting black hole :bomb: every now and then. Luckily, you have a large finite improbability drive :rocket: (not an infinite one, though!), thus you can move your planet around quite a bit... But it has side effects ... like filling up space with alternative fact\H\H\H\Hrealities...

Well, I always travel with my towel :reminderribbon: - what could possibly go wrong...

We have our idea!

We finally found it! :D We just hope we'll have enough time to finish it :v

My first 4 hours

I generally don't do this kind of blogging stuff, so I hope this isn't terrible.

Anyway, the first couple hours went quite well for me. Found a idea I liked and got the basic mechanics down pretty fast. And all that while having some minor internet connectivity issues (Is Twitch streaming really that hard on your upload? I'm sitting at about 4 stream restarts and 2 modem resets at this point.)

When I decided to check here to see what everyone else is up to, I realised how basic what I came up was. But then, I'm using an engine I started learning about 3 days ago, so that probably was a good thing.

Also, I probably should do more blog posts since as I was writing this, I had a pretty good idea, so we'll see how this ends up.

Derpy animals

Usually I think of myself as a programmer first, but for this gamejam I decided to do the art first. The plan was if I couldn't find a good artistic style I'd abandon the idea fast, but I'm having a lot of fun making the art so I think I'm going to stick with it!

Running out of space

Our game will be basically trying to avoid food falling into a stomach, which creates higher and higher platforms as it does stomach3.png

4th Hour Going

Finished the Basic mechanics of the game including Enemy + Player movement and Shooting and Spawning Enemies Finished some basic sprites and is looking good

Sudden join

I decided to join out of the excitement. I don't have hands-on knowledge of gaming engines and was not planning to participate until 15 minutes ago.

I got a concept down, forget about the name that I will probably decide at the very last. Now I have to choose a game engine to use and learn!

Ideas for Running out of Space

I write a page like this up for every Ludum Dare. Here's my notepad ideas:

Feel free to steal any of them, including the one I'm picking -- rising seas. :wavydash:

Good luck everyone!

Trees

Here's another try:

For the first time in forever, progress

It is currently 3:15 am, I have a conveyor belt moving rigidbodies around and a rudimentary dragging mechanism for what's going to become packages for the warehouse.

I have already established that I'll need to rewrite that mechanism because it won't scale when I start adding more items.

LD off to a great start. warehouse1.png

A brave astronaut.

Got an idea

Ok, brainstorming done.

Seems like I found something I'm comfortable with so I'm gonna go with that as it's giving me the chance to try out different stuff I've been playing with lately. Time to see how my modeling skills are doing now xP

Just Woke up and I Like the Theme

So far no ideas or anything. Hopefully i can get something basic mechanic done by today. Good luck to everyone participating. since its my second time, I hope i can do better than the last time.
