Work In Progress 03 @ Ludum Dare 39

ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
Just woke up after a long night of working, ready to work again. Currently I have basic player movement and model done, and also some NPC movement. My idea is secret so not revealing it yet!
Good luck everyone for their second day :)

Starting a bit late and this being my first lundum dare im not quite sure i will make it on time. I will try to make a simple space shoot em up. Lets see where this goes!
I lost 7 hours while away for company bbq. Way longer than I thought. However I have a plan for a minimum product... gonna get as much finished as possible tonight.
Oh and feel free to watch me dev! http://www.twitch.tv/nashdevsoft/

just letting you know, im in the jam
After a 1(.5?) hour break, and then another hour of tedious work, I have Level 1 of my game done. Everything's in place, so I just need more levels and graphics. Keep going strong everyone!

Starting to tick in to the end of day one here in Östersund, we ate a really fatty burger a couple of hours ago, and it starts to get to us in all the bad ways, but we'll continue for at least a couple of hours more.
Here's a shot of our general setup over at "Mina Bästa Polare", that is Pontus(@khorm) workplace, on the left you can see Emil(@emil-sunesson), hacking away at his space arcade game, and handling the playlist (currently playing "The Kristet Utseende").

The game is getting along slowly, I've managed to fix the vehicle selection state and the entry to the actual level state, now I just need to implement the main mechanics and get some enemy units in there, I'm a bit unsure if I'll be able to fix the whole base today, but hopeful I'll have a good base to work on by tomorrow.

That's all from Östersund for now, Over and Out!

Everything is going smoothly so far :D
How's everyone doing?!
Boom I plan on adding even more polish to the "destruction of airships" tomorrow when I do the audio and extra polish. >.>

But look, it does look decent, even though I'm barely alive. Did way more progress solo, than last jam, when I bothered to gather a small team. Really enjoying the result.

Today has been going pretty slow but we have got something to work with. DevilLime programmed the character movement before I had woken up this morning and I recently finished the VERY basic enemy movement.
(I am currently working on sprites, everything you see is placeholder!)
I almost just quit because something was to hard. But I cant give up.
After 5 hours of fighting with JS and old Phaser docs i found this!
phaser-es6-boilerplate
I'm running out of Power…
Our idea was ambitious to the point of I might die.
Never quit.
Hi there! Finishing our first day now!
We're doing a platformer in wich you are losing energy every second so you need to reach the energy points to fill up you and keep going to the exit. Also you have a special power that increases your speed but consumes more energy. Killing the enemies like in Super Mario will give you a bit of energy.
Our character will change his skin color depending on the level of energy (here some ideas):

I made some basic tiles and by the moment we've decided to keep the simplest character design. @davidcollado is doing the hard work on the engine. I hope we can show you some action very soon.
Keep going!

I told my self that i wasn't going to make any images until tomorow

This is my first jam ever (and my first game ever) and it is looking quite good so far i think !
Story:
You are the captain of a pirate ship. Your crew is losing his trust in you day after day. To prove them that you are a good captain, you must destroy other ship and loot islands !
The objective is to explore procedurally generated sea to find a island with a treasure on it ( Not shown on video ) The yellow bar (temporary) represent your crew trust, and the red bar represent the health of the ship. You loose trust over time and when a boat shoot you. You gain trust by killing ennemy ship and looting island.

I was on my way to make the full game on delphi, but the more I worked, the more I got lost. I'm never gonna do a Ludum Dare in a language I just started learning anymore.
Gonna need to start over... On game maker, for timing reasons. Meh.
In the near future, the State employs a ruthless AI to suppress dissent. If the State is cut off from electrical power, they run out of political power. Resistance members don't stand a chance against the State's deadly weapons, so victory lies in stealth. If agents can hide among the hordes of ignorant citizens, the State won't be able to target them while they complete their objectives and cut off the State's power supply.
In the near future, the Resistance is acting to undermine every bit of progress the State has guided its people towards. These rebels are underfunded and weak, but they are good at hiding among the proles. Launch precision strikes to take down suspected Resistance members, and do not worry too much about collateral damage; people are a renewable resource. Capitalize on every second the Resistance wastes by using special tools like radar and threat assessment programs to find the hidden Resistance members.
The future is unwritten.

Even though our game is not gonna be attractive for most people, I love the idea and we finally have some design and things to show.
So our project is called "LD - Large Donuts". Large Donuts is a hacking organization that does "small things to big people". The game - hack their website and slap their leader before you run out of battery power.
Attached an image of the Large Donuts website sketch:

Hi guys, Nivero here.
Microsoft is discontinuing MSPaint. This is the last year in which we can use the perfection that is MSPaint. That is why we are ONLY going to use MSPaint. No other imperfect, inferior, flawed, unsophisticated software will be used.
Expect great things. And maybe a game.
Niverio out.

A plant has grown!
The plants are modular and have different shapes/colours/features/attitudes depending on how you treat them... I'm not sure I knew how much asset work this was going to require when we came up with the idea!
I must admitt i got a lot of problems with this theme, but i'm finally in for the last 30 hours !
I've finally find an idea ! I'm gonna do a mobile game where the difficulty depend of your level of the battery of your phone !
Still gonna use the same non-optimal software but still awesome call Processing (Android) Photoshop/illustrator for the graphism. But all the time my bigest problem is the music, so if it's autorize i'm gonna create my music on this google doodle https://www.google.com/doodles/oskar-fischingers-117th-birthday
Oh and the name of my game ?!
It's 2:30 my time, I'v been working on my game just under 3 hours now. I've spent far too much time working on the player movement only to decide I didn't like it, but hey ho, Ludum Dare and learn. Probably should have spent some more time revising how vectors work in math though...
On the bright side, I have my game all planned out after I was up all night thinking about it! If I can make it I hope it'll be a good bit of fun. I also made a few tiles, so that's fun!!
It's time to see what a web developer can do. Spoiler: not much. I'll be making a clicker game. I probably won't even get to the point of making it look nice. Oh well.

I'm streaming this adventure and you can play it online soon.

It has been intersting day. With a really huge rollercoaster of feelings. I hope that people will not just give up, while making these games. For me today were some close ones. Btw, I'm not an artist, graphics in my game are shit, and will be like that.
A lot of the rough draft of the game is finished now
The kind of happiness that mere water can't grant.

Always love seeing so many different takes on the same theme! :grinning:
Keep up the great work, everyone!

While @Zeknir is playing god and generate the universe I finished the User Interface.
Take a look:

I'm a little late this time around, but I love the feeling when you get a game idea you like. It just works, and suddenly ideas for mechanics, story, and all these other things you'll have to eventually cut because it's a jam come rushing in :p
I might be able to get something closer to a finished game this time around. Seems like I have a simple enough idea.
Here's a little sneak peek (no powerups, no goal - just pure spacebar-mashing madness):

I forgot that Ludum Dare was a thing. I'm still gonna do it though. Starting 1 day late.
I've worked a little bit on the graphics and in the main mechanics. This is what I've accomplished as far.

Next time it will be a GIF or something
GODOT ENGINE
After a day, the results are super satysfying. My game is going extremely well. If yo want to see it, here you go... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiEI7UbnLEs
Making an arena shooter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TT3R3Ze_XpM
The idea : You are on a spaceship and need to take off from a planet of poop throwing monkeys.
But you are running out of fuel. Luckily monkey feces add 10 fuel points to keep you going!

Just have to add some sprites, balance things out and create failure and win states and we're done! This is the first things are actually going well and I am loving it!
The title says it "all" pretty much :P Go here for room cleaning action:
The first RC Robot is nearly ready for deployment! Any suggestions for the name?

On the dark side, we have some research on the combat gameplay progressing rather smoothly. Unity-chan has gracefully donated herself to the cause.

Also, one of our programmers is super into Comic Sans, we may have to part ways soon.

Going OK! Still a lot to add though to have a game...

We are back for our second LD, of course way better prepared (but still underprepared, i had to conclude). Let's see where this goes, the concept is fun so far and the graphics are cuuute :D

So the basic idea was to make a platformer where running costs fuel, and each jump costs fuel, and try to build puzzles around that. Don't know how interesting it's really going to be, hopefully I can make some cool levels. I'm still debating how expensive jumps should be, since the primary mechanic is the cost of jumps vs. running... ech.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=GtzMBy559KE

Let's see how this goes!
PC broke down middle of game development, so it unfortunately looks like I'll be missing out on my first Ludum Dare... again.
I think I'm done programming for today. Might do some music and sound efects but no new features untill tomorrow.
Here's what I have so far:
A snazzy logo (and an intro stage)
and 1 level.
http://imgur.com/a/24phz
Gameplay gif! (too big to upload here)
An important part of our game is this barrier, and you really don't want it to break :)

I'm in all the time, i was working quietly and i'm very excited. First jam, the feeling that you are making something, a product. Keep good work and have fun!
GODOT ENGINE
I know you guys are all probably busy on your own games which is understandable, however if you have the time I'd love if you could try out my game and give me feedback.
I added items to my game! The battery of life can now be recharged because of that!

After 9 hours of streaming, this is what I got so far! :moviecamera: :videogame: https://twitter.com/9chuckeles9/status/891377783099846657
Watch the full stream over here :gear: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/162813881.
I learned a lot during the stream: I need to talk louder, pronounce better, work faster, etc. Tomorrow it will be better!
:point_right: https://www.twitch.tv/9chuckeles9
Most of the boilerplate code is now up and running.
Some of the "real" graphics is in place, but the game's still not really playable... :-/

A little late to the show, but my daughter, son and I are all in. Can't wait to see what we create.
slyprid
So I finally did main music for our game.
You can check it on soundcloud
https://soundcloud.com/jakub-gab-o/ludumdare-39-main-theme
Hope you will like it

We're heading towards an endless power-fantasy hack-and-slash where the player fights hordes of enemies where your health is linked to the strength of your abilities. While the programmers do programmers' stuff, the art team is working on defining the visual style.

Making an online viking-themed deathmatch for the Jam together with spiderspy. This is it for today.
Next up: gore and multiplayer.
Will use unity's networking, let's see if we pull it off :D
http://imgur.com/gallery/U9YLC

I started this Ludum Dare just for fun and needless to say it has been a rollercoaster ride thus far. I woke up and checked my phone for Ludum Dare theme and as soon as I read it, my phone ran "out of power". So, that was going to be my game. Prevent discharging/overcharging phone. This is my current progress. Tomorrow, I will work on adding levels and making this game enjoyable https://vgy.me/xsMp3G.gif
We just finished our game for this LD! :)
It is called "RGBall" and its a simple arcade game.
Check out the game page: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/$37318

Progress is looking pretty good on my Compo game so far! The main mechanics are feeling pretty solid, and art is coming along nicely. There is still a lot of content to generate, but I'm feeling pretty good so far. I'm streaming all of my dev over at my twitch channel here https://www.twitch.tv/aevek/
I put way more time into this character model than I should have, considering how small it actually is on screen in game, but I'm proud of how it came out and even though the details aren't fully visible in game they still make the model look pretty cool. This is the solar powered robot that is the main character of my game.
This is what the protagonist looks like when he has run out of power.
Currently working on a spaceship game, the idea is you have to manage various ship systems ie thrusters shields etc while trying not to run out of power.
I have my ship flying about and you can turn off individual thrusters, now I need to make it into an actual game :)
I am done for today, it was a super exciting day. Made quite a bit of progress. Here the final screen capture of today. Tomorrow i will be adding difficulties , effects and some niche features.

Making some solid progress getting the core mechanics of a primitive 3D racing game wired up. Player movement has becoming much smoother since last night, and some animations help provide feedback. Next I'm going to try to wire up the lap/race mechanics followed by some primitive AI.
I'm afraid that performance may become a limiting factor soon. After building a map with just 100 billboards on it, I was already saw some strain on the framerate. I'm going to keep pushing forward regardless, but I could see this forcing me to cut some features early.

Now that I see what kind of things people are creating. My game gets put to shame...
So come to find out my team and I don't have matching versions of Unity, which is why we've been having so many crashes when using Unity's built in collaboration. I have $#*! internet, so this is taking forever to download.
Finished these two animations! Though I'm doing the Compo so I don't have much time D:

To the point: I'm quite happy with the results so far. I'v got character controller written utilizing FSM Plugin for Godot. I have some entities ready, as well as some simple visual effects that will help build the game mood. The thing is I don't have any art yet. Placeholders everywhere
I'm recording whole process - I'll make a timelapse after the jam.
Oh, It seems that my backup script has finished the job few seconds ago, time to make a supper.
Have fun!
I like tiny dudes, they always looks fun. But game not about them, I think. The game about wind turbines and blowing.

Doing a small-scope "guess the letter by clicking around in the dark" game.

Wanna try out the prototype? (Win, MacOS/Linux) – Instructions: Click around, then type a letter.
A simple concept of managing a generator (Power cells, regulators etc) got most of the systems in place got a shop to add this evening then make everything run more like a game tomorrow!
I'm testing some level generation from tutorials, like this one by Lewis Clark, which is based on Nuclear Throne/Wasteland Kings level generation, and the Heartbeast random level generator.
The game will be a bit simple and cliché, but let's stay on the safe side this time, since I didn't do much gamedev in the last few months. :stuckouttongue:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0HZNjeqmlc

Yay :) I have achieved more than i thought i would, but the game still looks like shit :( But i still have all of tomorrow to fix that. The gameplay is basiclly done, and i have a good system to add more content. Hopefully this will work out in the end!
Slowly, but surely the development process is going by fairly alright. Gonna take a dinner break.

Not much but, I finally managed to finish an isometric map with cursor.

So I'm having quite a bit of fun with this jam, mainly because I'm taking it very chilled and just making the genre I love the most, Run-N-Gun :D

My current progress is going pretty smooth, got down the engine pretty much (just need to add little things here and there) and I'll be done. Done in time to start creating some mad bosses and stages.
Hope everyone is having a great jam so far :) -Joel
Hi!
I'm Borja, this Jam's programmer for Team SophistiCat. We are just two this time, but we are working in an online game for everyone to share their experiences and positivety, all in the name of saving the good magic of the land.
For now, I bring you glowy letters taken from the library of the Great Wizard (A Node JS server):

First time gif-ing. Just a shot of a stupid obstacles and dash ability of the player.
joining the jam a day late, had no clue there was an LD coming up!! i'm gonna take this chance to learn love2d and make a simple shmup. your ships firepower decreases the more you shoot
got some basic movement, enemy and bullet spawning down. will probably work on some graphics that weren't totally lifted from OpenGameArt tomorrow, along with some sfx and music, but for the rest of tonight i'll try to make some interesting bullet patterns
hope i'll be done with this on time! can't cram a whole lot of features in but i still want it to be enjoyable to play.
and memes
The third scene is complete! With all three options now done, and the first sound effect of the game, I can safely say that it is complete! Just need to work on the sound a little bit more though...
Here are the three options! All of them direct you somewhere else, but it is up to you what you choose!

In this video I'm leading a squadron which is destroying the enemy squadron :

Wow, this first day was so productive. I think I have created 60% of my game. Have been working on it for 15 hours straight now. It is sooooo fun. Also, I never thought that I will be able to create such relatively good art in such short amount of time. Anyway, here's a picture of my game:
I think I've earned some sleep now. Tomorrow is the big day. I feel like I will be able to finish it time. We'll see.

https://youtu.be/8H6S8A1tSmM
My progress so far. After the end of the world, this doctor just wants to keep his last patient alive, but the life support systems require constant power. The only source of electricity left is from the hoards of robots that have laid waste
to the world.
Here is a little screenshot of what I managed to put together last night. I have the city being randomly generated and a car that you can drive around town. You can open up the map at stop signs which shows where you are as well as the important locations.
