I got the first 2 hours of work behind me and got pretty decent results I like the theme this time a lot ^^

After two hours of work I still feel like I have got nothing to publish with you.
Hope you are all doing great and making big progress with your games. :-)

Hi, guys! Buteratos Games - LudumDare39 ! Les's GOOO!!!

I've added some enemies! They don't do much at the moment but hey, they exist. I've also started work on shooting.

Not sure how well I will do, but this is my first Ludum Dare! I got the game mechanic mostly down yesterday, it will be something very simple. Unfortunately I don't have too many hours to put into the game, but worst case scenario I will finish it after the weekend.
I am joining LD for the first time, from Belgium with a 3 person group. After charging our power so we don't run out of power so quickly (1 to 5 am - Belgian time zone) and gathering our 3 person group together, we decided to go with a rogue-like game. At the end of 1 hour discussions, we quickly settled the story and the design. Our game is called 'Thirst'. Its about a mermaid got lost in the city sewers during a long hot summer day, dehydrated, dying of thirst. Searching her way back on a dry beach that drains her power, she has to survive finding water to stay alive and avoid being the dinner of other hungry creatures crawling on the beach. In the game you need to use water as your power source and try to find the sewer that leads the heroine to the sea directly. Already made a lot of progress on the layout, and next update will be the mermaid, and the other creatures. :)

You can follow the evolution of the game at Togis's Twitter page @ https://twitter.com/TogisLp . He will also announce his Twitch from there as he plays plenty other games of others designers after LD finishes.
Happy LD everyone, see u soon ;)
I've participated in a handful of jams by now and it has always been a lot of fun. Generally I've approached jams always by just opening my IDE of choice and hacking away some C++ code with SFML. More often than not, this lead to having no clear vision of what I actually want to achieve, which again lead to missing code structures and thus poor code quality. Plus since I spend pretty much all the time on coding, I didn't have time to put some more work into the programmer art and music.
For LD #39 I'm trying a different approach by starting out more with the art and sound part, making a clear plan for the coding side. The risk here is that the coding part does require a lot of time and since it's more in the second half/near the end, I might not making it. But at least I'll hopefully have some nice screenshots of programmer art stuff to show.
So far I've done some brain storming around the term power.

As usual the first ideas all involved some platformer and collecting things. I really don't know why my brain is so wired for all these platformer ideas, then again I do really like playing some neat platformer.
But after some thinking I decided to go with top down 2D puzzle/exploring gaming. For some reason the ROBOT games series came to my mind. I've played those games for many, many hours even if I never really understood all the mechanics.

Since I'm a big sci-fi fan, I decided to put the game into space and so far decided on some layout of two bands of 2x5 rooms and an additional 3x3 room for the generator/engine. Here are my initial notes for it.

Now the overall goal is to collect fusion pallets from around the space station to power the fusion generator in the center of the station. But to get there you also have to collect some key cards to open doors and fight some form of mobs. Your suit acts as shield and makes you move faster, but it relies on energy as well, so every now and then you'll have to collect some additional power cells or recharge you at one of the few charging stations.
For inspirational purposes and to maybe get some feel for the color palettes and how things might shape, I've quickly put together a small mood board.

The next steps will be to create most of the tile images and design different rooms. So far I've picked out various tools to help me achieve this. Some of which are quite new to me, while I'm more familiar with others.
I'll update things as I go.

Phone died. I have to catch a plane. This guy doesn't speak English.
We work to stay connected !

And the sound for stay awake ! https://soundcloud.com/user-666476942/speed-canalisation
Oops, forgot to get this in on time! Anyway, I'll be using Construct2 for code, Piskel for art, and possibly Jukedeck for some music.
After staying up a good four hours after the theme announcement, I have a base idea, AND a working prototype. So good so far, but you know how long some things can take.
Good luck everyone!
Hello everyone, this is my first Ludum Dare! I've entered many other game making competitions but this year I tried Ludum Dare!
After the theme got announced I already had a basic idea for the game. Hope to finish it soon!
The game is going to be survival platformer.
For now I have sketches for the player sprite and battery.
I started streaming on twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/1piotrek
