LD 48? More like LD 24

Been jonezing to game dev lately, and thought I'd check to see when the next LD is, OH MY, IT'S IN 8 HOURS! With only Friday night and Saturday free to work, I'll have more like 24 hours to make my submission. Excited for the challenge though and can't wait to see what you all make!

Happy dev'ing. :)

First entry. I'm in

So, this is my first entry. I don't have too much experience in GD, but hopefully, I'll be able to make something to push myself forward. Good Luck everyone.

Solo for the jam

I'm in!

Solo for the first time

Hey:)

Our first time in GJ. Exited to participate:) GL & HF

I'm in for the jam

I said the same thing last time and I ended up jamming alone but this time I should really be participating with a friend.

I've improved my C++ and learned UE4 since last time but with those compile times that's definitely not the best tool for a Jam for me, so again Unity it is!

Good luck everyone!

I'm in again!

For, what is it, 14-th time?

My last attempt wasn't very good, I hope I'll do better this time!

Also this time I actually figured out how to compile my C++ stuff the FAST way, so I won't have to deal with the annoying >30s build times.

I'm In!

I'll be doing the Dare again this time, with a primary goal of learning Clojure. I doubt I'll make a game that's particularly wow-ing as a result, but I'm optimistic to get a solid little concept done! Hoping for a theme that relies more on gameplay than graphics though...

Oh gee the nerves

Best of luck to everyone! Let's have fun and make some neat games :D

Hi! I'm in!

I hope I'll write a game this time and I'll make it.

Have fun.

I no longer care what the theme is... tower defense where you need to protect your shelter from wolves...

Maybe. :) relax, have fun, make games.

Here we go again!

Ahh I always look forward to Ludum Dare weekend. This time I'll be utilizing some new knowledge about Unity architecture practices that I've recently researched (using Scriptable Objects). We'll see how that goes!

Planned Tools: - Engine- Unity 2019.1 - Sound Effects- Bfxr - Art- Inkscape and Paint.NET - IDE- Visual Studio 2017

Third Party Tools: - DoTween Pro - Rewired - PlayMaker?

I'm in!

My first Ludum Dare! Going for the compo.

I'm using Godot 3.1, Gimp and lots of other small tools.

I'm in.

Will be writing in C and using SDL. Using GCC and Vim on Arch Linux for developing, but I plan to build on Windows as well.

Have fun everyone!

First LD Event

This is my first LD event so I'll be doing the Jam! I want to make sure I don't get too stressed out and reduce the overall quality of my game. I just want to have a fun and working product at the end of the jam that everyone can play! :D

I'm in!

I'll be using:

  • Unity
  • Blender
  • VS
  • Photoshop
  • Other small tools that I can't think of rn

Good luck everyone! So exciting.

Who needs Music/SFX?

First game jam, looking to join a team that needs a composer/sound designer! I posted once before but will try again now that it's a bit more active.

Please only reply if you are going to COMPLETE the game! Thanks, really looking forward to help create something fun.

Im In

woooooo

I'm in after years of lurking

I've been wanting to participate for a long time, and this time it looks like nothing is getting in the way :)

I'm planning to join the compo, but my goal is pretty humble: Get at least one other person to play and rate my game.

Best of luck to all of you :)

Second LD

This will be my second time playing LD. Let's hope everything goes right... I am thinking to concentrate on new mechanics instead of rebuilding already existing ones. Any suggestions??

I'm ready to take this thing on!!!!

I have been using java for the last Ludum dare jams I haven't finished a game in c++ yet ,but here goes nothing. Tools: Visual Studio paint.net (some audio software i cant remember)

Lets do this.

Continued Failures with LD

My History with LD:

LD40: Competed in my first LD Compo. Completed it successfully.

LD41: School took away my time to create the game. Did not attempt.

LD42: Right before college started, tried to rush something together. Ultimately the theme beat me.

LD43: Finals were in 3 weeks, 2 weeks from when LD ends. I attempted anyways, and lost to the theme and time constraints again.

LD44: Alright, so the theme and the time has REALLY messed me up so far in my attempts. College has gotten in the way more than anything else, and the dates being changed DOES NOT HELP. Finals started today, and go all next week.

I have two days. 48 hours. And no clue why I still try.

Virtual billboard is finally released... kinda

Note:You're going to see a lot posts of this game, because I can't contact people that were interested in this. I'm very sorry.

Hey check this out: https://youtu.be/tk23dofa9wA

Finally that virtual billboard is released. At least for now.

If you don't like using it, then I get it. It's really unfinished, but you can download this "demo" that was released due to ldjam. Write a comment if you are gonna use it! There are a lot of more features to come.

LET'S GO BOIIIIIS! (and grills)

My 10th LD!

Using Love2d as usual. This time I'm gonna dev on linux instead of windows. Will still need to switch over to windows for music and sfx though.

Good luck and may the theme be with you!

I'm in!

I´m in.

Let´s Rock. Xp

Things are running good

This will be my second Ludum dare.. everything looks good to go and stream will be up and running for the full 48HR's on twitch.. good luck to the rest of you guys and most important have fun...

In it to Win it.

I guess with only about six hour left before the start I should finally say officially that I am in. I'm gonna be using much the same tools as last time. - Unity 2K18.3 for my actual engine - Paint dot Net for all my 2D graphical needs - Blender for all my 3D needs - Audacity for all my audio editing needs - Household objects up to but not excluding my mouth for all my sound effect needs

I've already decided on what genre of game I am gonna try and create this LD, and no spoilers but its gonna be a sports game. I know not the most exciting genre but hopefully I will find some way to pull it off with aplomb. I unfortunattly have prior arangements tonight when the Compo offically starts so I probably won't get to actually start development tonight but its at 8 PM my time so I'm not to worried about it. That being said expect to see some pictures of my hand scrawled notes popping up pretty soon after compo starts. I am fixing to get in the top 50 this LD so I'm gonna be trying to push myself. Hopefully my ambition won't send me crashing back down to earth. So I guess I will post again in six hours untill then good luck everybody and may the theme be in your favor.

I'm in.

First Pyweek now Ludum dare

As said in the title, this is going to be my first Ludum Dare. I dont know any Python devs doing this challenge. I might end up making something extremely simple and nothing to write home about. We'll see how this goes. I got energy drinks and snacks on standby.

Know I shouldn't but I have to try..

I'm in.. Just had to get that out of the way :D

I'll, for the first time ever, try to make a low res, pixel-perfect game, using Unity.. :/ Should be possible :)

Anyone else set up some restrictions on resolution, engine, #colors or something else?

Good luck to everyone!

First jam, feeling good!

6 Hours To Go!

Not long now! Though I'll be asleep when the jam starts, 2am UK time is not a pleasant time :joy:

Since people seem to be interested in what tools are being used: it's mostly going to be Unity 2019.1 using the lightweight render pipeline (which I haven't tried yet, so this could be fun), with some blender for the models I guess, and whatever the musician will use for music. I don't know, I just code stuff  I use JetBrains Rider as my code editor, I highly recommend it - it's awesome

Second Ludum Dare

This will be my second jam. A few of my teammates from the last time are coming back along with some first-timers.

Last time

We kinda decided last-minute we were going to participate (I forgot it was coming up). I had been toying around with TIC-80 as a widescreen alternative to PICO-8 and we decided that's what we would use even though I was still getting the hang of the differences and no one else on the team had spent any time with fantasy consoles (or gamedev at all for the most part) until the jam. In hindsight we should've stuck to what I already knew and could teach efficiently, so this time we're going back to PICO-8. In addition I wish we had: * Had ideas for all the possible themes planned out ahead of time. (good-bye first hour!) * Gotten everyone's software and tools set up earlier (good-bye first day!) * Had genre-agnostic starter code ready to go. We didn't have a main menu > game > game over screen loop until the last day, and just barely made the cutoff with a single level because we didn't have time to implement switching between all the ones we'd made. * Taken advantage of dofile. We lost a lot of time to merge conflicts in our one giant cart. * Just used Lua instead of Javascript. We thought it would be easier since everyone knew the language but that mostly just led to deliberation about the best way to do things and weird issues between what's supported in the browser and what's supported in TIC-80.

Despite all that we are very proud of what we managed to accomplish:

Minotaur Mania

Jam Page

This time

We have some teammates who are new to coding, don't code at all, or don't really play games and we're super excited about that. It should lead to some interesting discussion and creativity that those of us with a firm idea of how games are supposed to work otherwise wouldn't get. We also: * Planned out mostly all of the possible theme ideas in advance. * Are meeting up early to get everyone set up before the theme is unveiled. * Have a full game loop in our starter cart ready for hacking. * Have split our cart into sub-carts thanks to PICO-8's new-ish #include functionality. * Can't use anything but Lua because PICO-8.

6 hours to go...

Joining first time since a long time

I once joined LD 21, but failed to submit something. Forgot about LD for a while or was too late, but I hope I can finally get something done! Excited :D

I'm going for it!

This'll be my first LD entry! I'll be using UE4, Photoshop and Blender as my software of choice. Good luck to everyone, and I look forward to playing your games!

I'm in

Hi,

Second Ludum Dare. I'm using Unity and Photoshop. Working in a team of two.

Good luck to everyone!

We are in

This is our second Ludum Dare. The previous one was awesome, we expect this one to be even better.

We are a team of two. Our tools are: Unity, Photoshop, Audacity.

Good luck to everyone!

In. Again.

Have participated (and failed to complete) so many entries over the last few years that I've lost count.

Going to switch things up this time... Going with Twine.

Will be attempting compo. If things don't work out, will try for a jam entry.

Success or failure, every attempt is worthwhile & informative. #RelentlessImprovement

Let's go

I'm in... First time doing the compo!

Pretty excited by the themes and looking to create something original. I'm going to target mobile devices first and WebGL. What I'm using:

  • Unity. I'd recommend anyone to use this, it's probably the best engine out there right now. I'll also be using it to create 3D models.
  • VS code. Lightweight and customizable, perfectly integrated with Unity
  • Figma for graphics. Because I know how to use it and I can't do pixel art

I'm in!

This is my first time in Ludum Dare :) Can't wait to start

Gettin' me outta' this bad funk. I'm in!

Ayoo, not to be too blue in the chops on y'all, but I've had a pretty rough month what with my lack of work and mom passing. This LD though seems to have come at a perfect time! I'm feeling actually inspired and eager to work on something for the first time in weeks!

I usually use Bolt or Playmaker in Unity3d, but this time I'm going all in on C#. I don't care how small it has to be, but I'm gonna make it!!

IMGem20190426/em151217_386.jpg

I am in! This time with company...

Mandatory I am in post, this time I brought company and we will be a team of 3, making an awesome game in Unity, Aseprite and Bosca Ceoil. The dream of LD with "art people" in the team is here, get excited! Good luck to everyone and try not to stress out too much.

Another try after a long break

I was actually participating in 3 Ludum Dares since submitted game. Didn't submit as games were not finished. This time will concentrate on simple idea and will try to submit something.

Will use * Pure JavaScript * Blender * GarageBand * Krita or Gimp

In I am

Hey there fellow ludum darians, I'm in! I'll either create a 3d game with unity and Blender or a 2d game (possibly multiplayer) with phaser. At least thats the plan now. I'll see what the theme will be. Have fun everybody!

My LD background

In case you missed it, I made an LD background. Use it if you want. LD Backgroudn.png

Im In!!

Hello I Am Participating In This Event Because I Love Game Dev!! and because i dont have any ideas for my big game Hope You Enjoy  :)

My first LDJam!

Hey everyone, I'm in for this LD44!

This has been a very long time since I wanted to participate in a Ludum Dare, this month I turned 35yo and I decided it's time to go!

It will be my very first compo, and I will be making a small game in Python mostly on an iPad Pro using apps such as Pyxen for code/graphics/sounds and Reflow for music.

Wish everyone the best, and have fun!

First Timer

This will be my first Ludum Dare. Just past a full year since I started learning Game Development. It's time to test myself in a high competition environment, I will be working alone. Eager to see the timer at 0. Best of luck to everyone. :)

Let's code

Same blablah as always.

Blablah C++ with SFML and a custom lib you can find on my Github. Blablah the theme will be lame, blablah please not shelter.

Blablah good luck everyone!

I think I should know some stuff before starting + infos

So everyone, this is my first time so here a few question :

Since i'm doing compo may I :

-Sleep?

-Wash?

-Eat?

-Play?

-Lay Around?

Also if I stream i'll be streaming here : https://www.twitch.tv/binarygleam

I'll try to learn to make music with samples before the event start with this:26582301em87b62ca4-68c7-40fa-9773-edc61a8acd94/em660_371.jpg

And I'll try to learn and implement my work with this : products-banner-web.jpg

And that's how I plan to end up after the event: billyAndMandy.jpg

( Am I allowed to post picture I don't necersaly own ? I dunno anymore these days ! )

Good luck to all of you!

Good luck everyone!

First time

Participating for the first time..

I have no idea how it will go, but it's always good to try

Going to use Godot as an engine, * paint.net * for graphics and * Bosca Ceoil * or my piano for music.

I'm aiming for something simplistic since don't have too much experience ~

Good luck for everyone!

I'm in Tooo (xxxth Time)

Despite not being my first Jam, It is my first LD !
Some finals themes seem pretty interesting, I hope I'll mage to get a fine idea and do something fun with it ! =3
I think I'll be using : + Unity + Rider + Pixel Edit + Something for the sound (Bfxr or maybe Bosca Ceoil) → I'm pretty bad at this =S

I would like to stream the event on my Twitch channel (It will be in french but I can handle english questions =D), if my connection is ok with that ^^'
I wish you best luck and a lot of fun !

Hey Godot Users! Want a project starter?

Over the years of using Godot I've had this growing project starter I tend to use for game jams that allow it. It comes with some of the things I always want to include in every project including scenes for title, credits and how to play, plus transition effects (fade out/in) between scenes and a sound track manager. Well, for this Ludum Dare I decided to package it all up and make it available for anyone who wants to use it. Just check it out at the projects GitHub page. It comes with a few other goodies which you might find useful.

As always, any feedback, good or bad, is appreciated!

I hope you find it useful if you're using the Godot Engine 3.1 this jam!

Waku waku

A few things are still up in the air. Like how many are going to participate in our project. Or who is gonna do exactly what. Having a professional programmer on the team is definitely a plus.

20 pounds of veg and pork ribs bubbling on the stove, preparing for the long weekend ahead. This will be yet another exciting, nail-biting event :D

first LD jam. I'll be using Unity, VS, Adobe PS CC and FL Studio. Hope I don't end at the bottom of the scoreboard!

  • Pepijn Bakker, aka Coderstools

I'm in!

My first Ludum Dare! Was thinking of joining a team for the jam, but that fell through. Since I'm on my own I thought I might as well try the compo, see how that goes. I can always spill over into the jam, right?

I'll be using: - Unity - C# in Visual Studio Community - Blender - Photoshop

I've not done anything with sound, so I don't know what I end up using: maybe give SFXR and/or Audacity a try.

Goal is to get something done and submitted, but I'm a family man and not a developer by trade.. so we'll see how things go...

We're in!

So, this will be our second LD. The first one (43) was really great and inspiring for us! Unfortunately not all of our team will be available this time, so we'll need to redistribute responsibilities a bit... But more challenge is more fun, right? :D

Good luck, everyone!

Finished Brainstorming

Finally Finished brainstorming ideas for each of the themes so that I am ready for whichever theme is picked. The hardest one was probably Color changes everything, purely because I am colour blind :P

Yup nope, no WASM port

Looks like my time is running out. 5 hours left, and im not even close. Looks like desktop + android + ios + switch are going to be my only targets

I'm In

I can't dedicate the entire weekend because i have some errands to run. But I'll try to submit something. I will be using Godot and Gimp/Pyxel Edit.

Waiting for theme :D

Ola boys and girls and demihumans!

As always.... I will probably not finish my project. But somehow i have one small tradition. Waiting for theme with my friend Johny W. And Good movie... And bag of licorice :D And unholy mess... So... There is small sneakpeak.

IMGem20190426/em213621.jpg

Johny, vape and Event Horizon

And while watching movie, i am writing "i am in post" with my horrible english!

So.. As always. Here is list of software which i probably won't use for making game...

Graphics :art: :
  • Blender 3D for ... 3D. But only if i will be using 3D
  • Aseprite for pixel art. But only if i will be using pixel art.
  • Paint.net for everything else.
Code :hash: :
  • I want to finish something in godot :D So, probably godot.
Sound :notes: :
  • I really don't want to talk.... Or even think about it

Well... That's all! I will be keeping eye on everything cool, so try your best guys! And thanks for this jam Mikey!

I'm in

First LD, hope I can get it finished. Good jam to you all!

Lets take a moment....

To thank Mike for all the awesome stuff he does to bring Ludum Dare everyones favorite game jam to life! Sincerely thanks, for creating this amazing experience!

PS Oh, and this is my fifth LDJAM!

LD44 Game Jam is starting few hours from now and I'm still not done in my current game project. Omegalul

Anyways, best of luck developers for the 44th edition of this jam! Remember to have fun while creating

Confusion about the schedule

I'm a bit confused because the schedule says that the jam lasts from saturday to tuesday, but the Rules-page states that the game is made in a weekend. So which one is it? Two or four days?

Here's my play on the "I'm in" post by saying its "Obligatory"

Hey guys I'm back from my hiatus, guys referring to the two people that gave my game a five in the humor category. Thanks guys! Anyways, I literally accidentally found out it was today because I was looking through my files and found my bird vs rat files and was like "Hurr durr I wonder when the necht LD is hurr" and I found out it's in 5 hours. Lucky me. Obviously this time I'm going to make a masterpiece so ready your tiny little seats by purchasing bigger seats. I am going to make somthing and its going to be in two days and its going to be great... I mean its going to be a game.

Top Three Themes You Want?

What are the top three themes you hope to see being used for the event? I want it to be either "Your life is currency", "Risky Powerups" or "Everything has a price".

eye man in

if you don't know what to use for music and sound-fx or just want to try something new, take a look at VCVRack the free modular synth for any OS. It is great and since it's open source, anyone can contribute with new modules and people are doing just that, including me: for LD41 I made a module out of the game "pong", which can be played or used to trigger and control stuff in a modular patch. Check this video by dag2009, it's a patch built around that module, where the two players are controlled by other modules in Rack.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWDFf-pyZE4

if you are interested in modular synthesis, there are tons of videos on youtube about using VCVRack or modular synths in general.
