It's already the last day! Time flies! I already got 25 ratings, and that for me is a great number! Altough I beelieve the more the better, right? So here's the link! All ratings and feedback are appreciated and will be used to make the post jam version as good as possible!

You can play here (Windows, Web, MacOS): https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/beelieve-in-yourself

Blockemon, playable in browser!

Last day, I really appreciate anyone playing my game.

I'm really happy with the game I made, and honestly, I want to make a full game of it.

cover3.png

It's a real-time pokemon-like game! There are many different creatures to battle and catch! (But you can only have 3 at max) And a gym to beat at the end! Can you do it?

There's a web version and a windows-download version.

Minor Update

Some people have reported crashes on the Windows build of my game Space Station Express, so I've rebuilt it with Godot 3.2.1 instead of 3.2 in the hopes that it'll fix it. It doesn't change the way the game plays at all, but hopefully it's more stable.

I only need maybe 1-2 more ratings to place, so if you haven't done so (or you tried and it crashed :slight_frown:), try it here.

❤️ Harvest Saga needs your help! ❤️

cover.png

I totally goofed up and didn't have time to promote my game this time around.

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Harvest Saga is so close to having enough ratings to qualify! It would mean a lot if you could give my humble little gardening game a spin.

I did just finish a post-jam with several UI improvements, bug fixes, a help page, a few more crops, re-balanced economy and some other stuff.

It should be fully supported on both mobile and desktop browsers. Try it out!

Please let me know what you think on my game's page!

Your feedback means a lot. :)

If you're in a similar boat, leave a link to your game in the comments and I'll play. If you leave feedback on my page I'll also try to play your game!

"The Drown" soundtrack now avaible!

It took me some time, but soundtrack i composed for your Ludum Dare entry is finally out! 330bb.png You can listen to it here: https://soundcloud.com/deoduckla/sets/the-drown

I've always been a big fan of working on horror games, so when an idea to make something dark and sinister arrived, i immediately jumped on it.

My main inspiration was soundtrack from The Thing (1982) directed by 80s horror master himself, John Carpenter. Since the game itself was based in the future, i've used thick, multi-saw synths, with heavy use of overdrive. Most of the sounds you here are produced by Vacuum Pro synth, which turned out to fit the game perfectly. Having something to work off, of i've added some filtered white-noise (to fill up the sonic space), ocean/rain samples (to add more organic and lonely feeling), and some synth bells (to add supernatural/more melodic element).

I've also tried to avoid any strong chords progressions, and make a use of extended chords, to obscure any strong harmonic movement that could pull you out of the immersion. Be sure to check our our entry here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/the-drown

Post Mortem is up...

If you're interested in learning how we progressed through the making of For Ducks' Sake, there's now a 2500 word post mortem up on my personal blog at: https://garystanton.co.uk/ludum-dare-46-in-the-bag/

I'd originally planned to post it here, but it kinda got a bit out of hand!

Remember, there's still one day left to check out the game and give us a rating. We're pushing 300 at the moment which is just... crazy! Thanks to everyone who's played and rated so far. We really appreciate the feedback and general good vibes.

Thank you so much to everyone who played and rated our game!!! If you don't know, Fitnerior decorator is a fish tank simulator. It lets you adopt new fish, keep them alive, and decorate your tank!

When you adopt a new fish, they will have a default name. This default name is a random name selected from a list that I've created which is currently populated by 9 different names. But I would like to add more names, and that's where you come in!

FishYourName.png

If you would like a name as a default name in our game, write a comment below containing the name. It can be your name, or any name that you would like! I will post an update here when I've added the names to the game! Tower of BOOM : New updates post jam

So it has been some time since I uploaded the jam version of tower of BOOM and I have updated the game quite a bit taking user-feedback into consideration. The game has now been made more fast-paced and smooth to accommodate for any style of play. I will continue to add more to the game as well. This is one run-and-gun which will be updated for a while. You can still play the jam version if you want to rate the game though. (The jam version is available for windows only though....) Tower of BOOM (front page)(ver 2).png

Final Push

The last day of rating is coming up! I've been trying to review as many games as possible - particularly those in the 'danger' zone on the Games tab.

I was hoping I could reach 75 ratings on my entry, but it seems like a bit of a stretch now :(

I still appreciate anyone who can leave a rating though, and I value everyone's precious feedback.

You can play my game here: Pug Panic

Hello everyone,

As Ludum Dare comes soon to an end I would like to ask some critical Feedback on my first ever game and entry Gluttuny. I have mixed feeling how the game turned out and would like to ask for your thought however harsh it is so I can know what aspects of game design I should focus or learn onward. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/gluttony

OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!
Actually, you should save these guys, but whatever...
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/deaths-compass

Tired of twin stick shooters?

That's why we tried different approach to top down shooter - we restricted movement and aim to only four directions, but you can move very fast through the level!

We also made the shooting itself a mechanic on it's own - it is not sufficient to just press the button, that's not how bows work!

DRAW THE BOW JUST RIGHT

To shoot effectively, you need to draw it right. Draw too little and the arrow would travel only short distance and do less damage. Hold the bow drawn for too long though and the archer loses his strength and concentration resulting in very poor aim, though the shot itself will be fast and powerful. Try to hit the sweetspot with both maximum force and maximum accuracy!

And most importantly - protect the Hatching Dragons! Play here in your browser!

Post Jam Development

Here is a sneak peak at one of the new enemy types you'll encounter in the post-jam version of my game. The currently unnamed 'Spiky Ball' creature telegraphs its attack direction to the player. Once it hears a sound it moves over to that location and sets a new target path, killing whatever creature is in its way. One or two of these can be quite easy to avoid, but things get a lot more complicated and fun when lots are on screen at once.

I'm excited to share more in the future and I can't wait to see what you all make, whether it be a post-jam version of your game or something entirely new!

I can not believe it. This was my first Ludum Dare and I have gotten 93.5 review! This was an amazing experience. All your feedback was super useful as I am 11 and am in need for constant feedback to improve my game and coding skills. Thank you for all your support! But it would be amazing if I got to a 100 💯 ratings. Help me achieve that goal by reviewing my game at https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/the-last-flower. Also just to say, all the games I rated were super fun. No matter how cringe the graphics were (No offense😉) the games I played were super amazing and I had so much fun playing them.

You play the role of a healer on a team of adventurers, trying to save them from their own stupidity ("seriously you're on like 2 health why would you...ugh"). Perfectly matches the universal feeling of being a healer in almost every game ever.

This one was pretty fun when I was just serving ice cream. And then it was really fun when I pulled out a machine gun to fight off demons. A truly hilarious experience considering I didn't read the description going into it :)

A really fun game where you carry your fellow injured soldier through machine gun fire, artillery, and mine fields. A really enjoyable experience that I spent way more time on than I expected. 31d20.gif

Alright that's my list! There are obviously WAY more games I'd love to mention, but these stood out to me. Hopefully you enjoy them too!

Can you carry the olympic flame through the dangerous lands and keep it alive? Do you like jumping over water while keeping your torch try?

I hate to beg

But we are 2 (or 4?) ratings away from getting a score. It's not great, and really needs a tutorial, but if a few of you great people could help a feller out I'd much appreciate it. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/sim-cell

How to use tools for a great jam game!

As Ludum Dare voting is wrapping up we wanted to give thanks to the tools developers that have helped us along the way. Without these fine folks we wouldn't have gotten along nearly as far as we did with our game!

plant-demo.gif

First a shout out to Daniel Kvarfordt Danik112 who develops Pyxel Edit! This pixel editor is extremely valuable for doing animations and tile sets. Honestly I’m more comfortable with Photoshop after many years using it, this jam I found myself going straight to Pyxel, skipping Photoshop more often than not. Get Pyxel Edit here! https://pyxeledit.com/get.php

fd-pyxel.png

result3.gif

For some of our animations, it was quicker to get attractive solutions using tools from CodeManuPro and DavitMasia! For some particle effects we using Pixel FX Designer. I’ve created so many great particles with this engine, and it’s great for exporting to pixel art and looping it. There are so many options to experiment with, It’s really fun to just tinker around with this tool making weird pixel effects. Get Pixel FX Designer here! https://codemanu.itch.io/particle-fx-designer

To save some more time, we used JuiceFX to do some idle, hit, and break animations. These kinds of animations can be tedious by hand, JuiceFX really makes them a snap! JuiceFX is also from creators CodeManuPro and DavitMasia, you can get it here! https://codemanu.itch.io/juicefx

fd-juice.png

We also used Photoshop and Illustrator for some of the larger graphics in our game. I did try to use TileSetter https://led.itch.io/tilesetter for our tile set, but I couldn't quite get it to work properly and to agree with GameMaker Studio. I'd also like to give Smear FX https://codemanu.itch.io/smear-fx a try, it was too close to the jam for me to pick up a new tool.

itch-banner.png

All these assets were brought into Game Maker Studio 2 to make Fleur Defense and we’re overjoyed with the game we could put together for the jam. A huge thanks to these tools developers who give back to the community and making Fleur Defense a reality!

Try Fleur Defense Now! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/fleur-defense

The Art of Wayward

The art direction for Wayward was pretty straight forward. It was knot tied up in extraneous "details" the way it can be sometimes...

Imagine a path: What it means to go straight, to turn, to ignore direction, to be lost.

3dstyleguide.png

When you know which way you want to go, the movements feel less forced - almost involuntary. But feeling lost is a totally manual process. There is no light to tell you where to go. It is an oscillation between manual and auto pilot, conscious and subconscious, trying to find the flow and submitting to it once it takes hold. Sometimes we don't know where this flow will take us but it's comforting to know we could take our hands off the wheel if we wanted to.

https://youtu.be/LJcfeN-ii2E

The feeling of being at home is a good thing. The feeling of being lost is also a good thing. Whichever way you choose to wander is fine, because moving forward is always progress.

Thank you all for an excellent Jam. Keep moving forward.

* There is only 16 hours left! If you haven't played my compo entry, "Defend the Loot!" why not give it a try? In the game you have to defend the loot chest as waves of enemies attack you. Before each wave you get a minute to build up your base. There are 10 levels, and getting to the end won't be easy! *

You can find the game here https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/defend-the-loot

Danger in the City: making of

Thanks a bunch! :)

From a technical perspective, I had a lot of fun making this game without any game engine and with tools I usually make websites with but not games! I used TypeScript with React and Three.js (through React Three Fiber).

I started by making the 3D asset of the car which is something I hadn't done in years. I love the Wings3D program for quick 3D designs, it's really easy to understand and use, even if it's less advanced than Blender.

Here you can see the first draft of the car based on a 2D drawing I've found somewhere on the internet. I really wanted to have that retrowave/outrun aesthetic so I went for the classic sport coupé car design.

Screenshot from 2020-04-18 00-18-59.png

I added a few simple colors to see what it could look like. You'll notice the wheels were missing at that point.

Screenshot from 2020-04-18 03-05-13.png

I ended up going for a nicer red color in the end. Wheels were added (woohoo) but not animated (sad face).

Screenshot from 2020-04-20 05-42-37.png

I loaded everything into a Three.js scene and implemented the level generation, a grid of block-shaped towers. I also added code to make those towers explode into blocks. I didn't really have time to do fancy designs for those so I used simple polygons. I spent way too much time tweaking the materials in the scene to look just right, that took sooooo long. Since I didn't have a game engine, I spent some time implementing the controls and the physics themselves. I had a few gameplay elements I wanted to add but I've had to cut them.

Screenshot from 2020-04-19 23-57-54.png

Finally, I added the title screen in the last minutes to seal the deal, as well as the win/lose screens and animations.

Checkout the game over here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/danger-in-the-city

I still need a few ratings and I'd appreciate your feedback on the game.

I'm really happy with the camera (smooth car-chase camera goodness) and graphics, which I spent quite some time polishing (I should have kept more time for the gameplay haha). See you after the finish line. :v:
