Ludum Dare 45 October 4–7, 2019

I'm in

this will be my second LD and boy am ready, in the first one i had great fun.

I will be using Unreal Engine 4 probably mostly BPs might do some c++ here and there.
for graphics: affinity photo and Blender 2.8 (we have love/hate retaliation-ship :dog: )
for sound: Audacity, SFXR

The Chocolat-Endive team is back!

I think it's time for us to say hello!

So, we're in for this Ludum Dare. I present you the Chocolat-Endive team:

  • The almighty Bouteille is specialised into code and graphics
  • Zhao (me), ready to make some music, help with game design, and some graphic things.

Our battlestations are ready and fully operational. Here is mine: 001.jpg

And Bouteille’s: 002.jpg

We're going to use : * Godot engine (it's a great little thing) * Blender and Magicavoxel for 3d (if we make some 3d stuff) * Krita and Gimp for 2d * Qtractor or Reaper and Audacity for recording on computer, and maybe some VSTs. * Brains if we have enough coffee

We'll probably use some other little things (for sound effects, or creating fonts, for example).

I'm pretty happy with my music setup: 003.JPG

What do we have here? * Nanoloop mono on gameboy * Three Korg volcas (fm, keys and bass) * An Aodyo Sylphyo (a super fun breath-midi-controller-electronic-flute-synth-thing) * A Yamaha QY-8, a cheap but cool portable midi sequencer * A Yamaha pss-470 synth, it has an adlib/OPL2 chip, I love it. * A Korg monotron delay it's cheap and has a dirty sound but it's fun to use * A bunch of pedals (delay, multiple reverb, chorus and some supid thing like a vocaloid pedal) * It will be all recorded on the Yamaha MD8, a multitrack recorder.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be really fun!

Good luck everybody, I can't wait to start this ludum dare!

Last round before final

Soon the end of voting ... And finally, Ludum Dare 45 will start ! ^_^

We're in!

Normally, my team joins the event once the event itself has started, but this time, things have changed. Not only are we joining before the event starts, but we also have someone new joining the team. Say hello, @Tpcool. :eyes:

Anyways, yeah, Team Spontaneous Combustion is in it once more ~~to win it~~. We've made a couple of Ludum Dare entries in the past ranging from games about selling your organs to managing babies on a conveyor belt to trying to win a girl's love while defending yourself from aliens. It's been a lot of fun (and pain, but ultimately fun) working with all these lovely people on my team (shoutouts to @Frostyflytrap, @TinyCastleGuy, @Takeshi64 and @IJZM :purple_heart:). I can't wait to do it all again this weekend.

Us hooligans are back at it again for this upcoming Ludum Dare! :pointright: :cowboy: :pointright:

Looking forward to enduring the weekend with everyone and playing some awesome games afterwards!

I'm In

I might be working alone, idk, or I might work with a friend.

I'm in

I don't know if I'm gonna do it alone or with somebody else.

error

sorry I've been making 2 im in posts. It didn't show that it made it so i kept on doing it lol.

I'm In!

This is my first game jam, and I will be entering by myself. I do not expect to get anywhere even near the top, but I'm mainly entering to improve! I am hoping that this won't be my last game jam, and am hoping to participate in as many as possible from now on!

Thanks, and please test and give feedback on my game once the jam is over!

I'm in

Is this still required? I'll try to make something for the competition.

I'm in!

Last LD was my first one, and the experience was amazing! I'm definitely joining the Compo again this time.

Looking for feedback partner!

Hey, I like to experiment with small free games, here's one of my favorites that I've made, burrow: A2.gif https://b-random9.itch.io/burrow

I imagine there's other people like me here who make stuff regularly and like to have some source of feedback/discussion.

So is anyone here interested in being feedback partners? Meaning we send each other what we're working on and give each other detailed feedback. Preferable someone who isn't afraid of being critical.

If you're interested and are on roughly the same skill level as me, hit me up and give and example of some of your work and we can work something out if it's my kind of thing.

Cheers.

Unpopular Opinion: Round 3 Theme Ideas were Terrible

There are so many themes that should be renewed, but instead reused and recycled pun intended

Some of these themes are too far fetched and limited: What about the 2D artists, how're they to make a first person? What about all the tile-based platformer only users?
Decay? Mutations? Merge? What???

These may simply be biased votes based on my own limitations (and maybe lack of creativity in some areas), so big disclaimer I mean no ill intent.

theme3roundvotingcomplete.JPG Still excited for Round 4 however! :sunglasses: I just hope none of these themes get chosen

The themes are... okay

Not as great as I was hoping they'd be, but there's a couple that I think I'd enjoy. I'd be very keen to do 3 colors, mainly because I suck at pixel art and I'll be using pico-8 so it'll help restrict me even further in terms of graphics.

"Games that shouldn't be in first person done in first person" I find way way too specific. From what I can tell, this is basically restricting every game to be 3D and in first person. Yeah, it could result in some really cool games, but for people like me who don't make 3D games and are restricted to 2D engines (GMS2 and pico-8 in my case), then it basically means I can't compete in this Ludum Dare. I know I could just learn how to use Unity, but with only 3 days left, I don't want to learn an entire new engine just for one game jam.

"One item, many uses" also peaked my interest. I don't know what kind of game I'd make, but I can see this theme resulting in some really interesting themes.

Once again I'm in!

I think it's the 15-th time for me.

The last two attempts didn't go very well.
(One time the game didn't turn out good enough to be published, and the other time I didn't make it to the end since I was sick.)

I want to get my revanche this time!

As always, I'll be using my own small C++ & GL engine.

Hyped

I am trying to finish my custom game engine in time for this game jam. It is almost finished, but it may take more than 3 days to finish ;-; If I cannot finish it in time, I will just use Unity3D, even though I am not very experienced with it.

I will be using: Engine: Custom engine/Unity3D Modeling, Sprites, and Textures: Blender, GOXEL, Paint, and MagicaVoxel Audio: SFXR, Bosca Ceoil IDE: Visual Studio 2017

Hope everyone has a good time!

Games that shouldn't be in first and why its a bad topic

One of the themes in today voting is ‘Games that shouldn't be in first person done in first person’ and it’s possibly the worst game jam theme I have ever seen.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea, it has so many cool possibilities but it also destroys the idea of ludum dare and game jams in general.

Let’s face it, first person is hard. It requires you to be able to work in 3D such a lot of jammers don’t know how to , every one in construct and game maker just got ruled out. But even for those of us requiring 3D just adds extra technical challenge that many won’t want to face.

But it’s not just technically more difficult, it also places massive limitations and challenges on design. Instantly any normal type of first person is out, shooters, platformers, walking simulations, board and card games. Finding something that isn’t first person, can be made into first person and is still fun seems almost impossible.

Personally I just see this as a topic that is far to challenging and far to limiting and far to limiting and will result in less people went wrong and less people completing.

That been said there is another part of me that would like to see the mayhem it creates. It’s a fantastic idea, I just don’t think it works in this context.

But what do you think? What ideas for this topic have you come up with so far?

IM IN

I accidentally posted twice so im converting this to my im in post. I think the last time I competed was 2013 or 2014, anxiety and depression has been stopping me from doing it again. But I decided no more and ill be joining in the fun this weekend.

I'm in, for my very first Ludum Dare!

This is the second time I've ever joined a game jam but I'd rather pretend it's the first.

I'll participate in the hopes that the pressure will finally get me to finish a game (not very good at finishing things) because I usually just prototype dozens of projects and leave them to rot, as digital data does.

I'll be using the Godot game engine, Krita for 2D illustration, Blender if I decide to go 3D. If feeling particularly brave I'll use LMMS and Audacity for audio, Bfxr if I'm in need of some extra beep-boops.

Hoping to actually get something out by the end of the jam! If not, there's always next time.

Have fun, everyone!
