I’M LATE!!! I mean, I’M IN!!

O_O Soooooo, due to life happening (Dontcha hate that?) I’m running really late, BUT, I think I have an idea that I can pull off in just under what, 33 hours now? Better get on with it, gl hf jammers!

So I have some requirements now

But what are they? 😮

The Tomb Devlog #1: A Cult of Lively Death!

Good morning Ludum Dare participants!

I’m Nick, CEO and “business guy” over at indie developer Raconteur Games. This is my first game jam, ever! I’ve organized two, but never actually participated — now that changes!

My team consists of myself, the incredibly talented Sander, our CTO at Raconteur, and Charity, a local Louisiana developer who’s an incredibly talented artist (seen in games like Quest of Souls).

We’re going to chart our progress throughout the event here for our entry “The Tomb.”

We saw the theme of “one room” and wanted to give it a fun narrative spin, and what we came up with was delightfully strange and grotesquely beautiful. In this game, a death-obsessed cult spends their entire life focused on death, and a major part of that is building your own tomb.

So, you are literally digging your own grave!

Dark, right? Nah, these are silly cultists who end conversations with quips like, “Death comes for us all!” It really is a charming little thing, I promise you!

Sander is currently knee-deep in code for custom systems based on social interaction with characters, which can determine how certain relationships in the game play out. Charity is working on great art for the game — first screenshot in our next post!

Excited for this to be my first game jam game, as well as being able to collaborate with other Louisiana developers.

Let’s get stuff DONE!

-Nick

It’s something …

something

Game is going to be about an aging vacuum robot that needs to budget its battery time to efficiently clean the 1 room studio apartment of its owner, lest it be scrapped and replaced by a newer model.

Very tragic.

Madness awaits.

I hope this is for Jam too!

Well, the laboratory is a lonely place, and it does put a tax onto one’s mind.

Scientist, locked from the outside world, in search of his magnum opus.

I have a disputably working elevator going, with the notable bug that it will silently break if  you travel beyond the available floors.  Roll Eyes

I figured it out! :)

This is my first Ludum Dare :)

I finally figured out how to make dynamic lighting in my 2D rendered scene.

Trying to work hard on this. Wish me luck :)

Starting work late!

5:30pm on Saturday. Only just being able to sit down as a team and start writing code. We will be using a node.js Server for the multiplayer communication, with the game embedded into an Electron client running a javascript canvas. Probably not the easiest technology stack but its something we actually all agreed on. Well here we go I suppose!
