Ludum Dare 37 December 9–12, 2016

First LD Jam ever for me.

I am keeping it super simple and I’m coding a one room mystery.  Minimal everything.  This is definitely a challenge for one person.  I was surprised to see all the teams that are working together.  With some luck and coffee, I can get this done.

Happy LD!

“You come here often?”

Last post here.

Such lovely creatures, look at them mingling!

Colors are all random now, but they will play a part in how a play session evolves.

Progress Update – Man Cave Defense

Quick progress update. My LD37 is called “Man Cave Defense”. Defend against the enemies trying to prevent you from enjoying your man cave… Time, Distractions, Obligations and needs will invade your cave. Blow them up, shoot them down – whatever you do, let them not spoil your paradise!

Meanwhile, enjoy your man cave gadgets to get points to spend on defenses. For example, enjoy your fine espresso machine.

EspressoMachine

That’s one fine-looking espresso machine, if I may say so myself.

I think I’ve already made more models in Blender for all my LD entries combined. Ok, maybe not but pretty close.

As opposed to my Nature Nurture entry from a previous LD, I’ve dumbed down the scope and gameplay a bit so I’m feeling pretty good about finishing this Tower Defense game in the 48 hours for the compo. Fingers crossed!

A Room Full of Chaw!

Hello everyone! I made a small puzzle/strategy game.

a room full of chaw ss

The objective is to fill the room with these little creatures, the chaw, while making them happy. The exact rules are in the game’s page: https://viniciusosti.itch.io/a-room-full-of-chaw

There are still things to do (sounds), but the core gameplay is already done!

The inspiration came from my pets little house. I have 3 dogs and some dogs don’t like to be near with some other dogs, a really complicated relationship. hahahaha

I hope you like it, and if you see some problems, let me know!

Starting up now

A bit of a late start but I’m starting now, hopefully I get something playable by the end of the weekend. Making a game based on office life.

Here’s a sneak peak to what I’m doing…

skeletal roomB

So we started with a room, and added some textures, create some xmas tree and then some odd looking object, and then made some skeletal animation for the player. Now just need to figure out gameplay…

WIP #2

Blood is EVERYWHERE. Just ended up with blood shader and cleaning effect. Hope kitchen will not ruin jam theme rule for me.

wip2

Adding to itch.io and to github.

Does anyone knows what more has to be done? Not only in game, but also in Ludum Dare, is there a place to tell game name and stuff?

I know the game isn’t finished. I am still working on. This is my first Ludum Dare, my first platformer, my first game alone in 48h,…

game submission isn’t ready yet, pay attention to the ldjam site for when it is :)

Progress

Last night the power went out due to a bad storm… It cut into my spriting time a lot, but I didn’t want to get behind on the programming too, so the sprites are just boxes for now. This is the room in game, where you do all your stuff.

The game is working titled “Hephaestus”, and you play as a legendary smith making magic items for warring kings. The goals are pretty player driven, you can choose to support whomever you like. Unfortunately, due to the time lost, I probably won’t have the sprites for those characters done, so all their communication will be done via letters. Such is the nature of the beast.

Level In-Game

First version is ready!

Whoo!

I finally got my multiplayer system to work, movement synchronization works great, casting spells at other players damages them as expected, I eventually got rid of an icky bug I had, and the game is ready to be played!

But!

It’s kinda boring… The game works perfectly, but the game mechanics are still a bit lame… I still have to add cool stuff, super attacks, defenses, power-ups, special FX, etc. in order to make the game actually interesting.

This time (in contrast to #LD36), I’m trying to stop myself from making an ambitious, storyline based, long game, and to make a simpler yet cool & fun game.

The idea :

the cursed toys from little Anne’s bedroom arise at nights. But, toys have their life-time, and when their inner clock shows that their time is over, they die, and, eventually, are thrown to the garbage bins. But the cursed toys are evil. They have the power to steal more time from others, using spells and curses. At night, you play a toy in Anne’s room, and you fight other toys in order to survive for as long as you can.

I hope this idea will attract players, and that the game actually succeeds, so, wish me good luck!

1st day is over for me, so I’m going to take a shower and go to sleep (to be more productive tomorrow).

Will you be able to get a server up for when judging happens?

Something Weird…

I decided to make something unusual for me. Its a room, and there’s a text input system. You type stuff and stuff happens.

There is a story there, but I doubt anyone will play for that long.

How do you guys make gifs of your games?

Everyone that uploads posts now is showing their game usually with animated gifs. Is there an easy way all of you know to record it easly? Are there many different ways to do it?

:) thanks! I’d love to share my game here too!

A Little Progress Update

Trying to get his gif to upload to the gallery ptoperly

Excuse the jitteriness of the gif, Giphy won’t let me use avi files, so I used some other site. As you can see my game is about a thirsty dinosaur getting water. So far I have some decent sprites and most of the gameplay done.

Is the Gif working for you? It won’t animate itself for me.

Left to do:

Add music

Various minor tweaks.

Day 1 So Far

Simple AI finished, also now you can shoot with the mouse and some other things… Going good!

yes! this and another pot of coffee is exactly what I needed!

So…let’s do this!

Okay, I am finally going to starting doing my…thing!

I will just do some simple platformer type of thing cause it’s the only thing i can be sure I’ll finish somehow!

Oh and i actually went out partying last night (till 5-6AM, forgot keys at friends place LOL) and also played football today with a friend and a Korean exchange student (who will be leaving soon!) so i couldn’t turn that down!

So, yeah, with that said, i hope i will get something done, be it as buggy as it is haha!
