Ludum Dare 37 December 9–12, 2016

Snowguard: Still jamming!

I went with the Jam because I have a brand new puppy and it’s hard to do this at the same time!

Snowguard is coming along, item placement works! Time to rush the rest of it! lol.

Another Ludum Dare done!

Whew! After having to work at my job all weekend, I managed to squuueeeezzzzeeee a game out of the few hours I had left! No way I was missing Ludum Dare 37.

I look forward to playing all of your games!

This is only my second Ludum Dare and, therefore, my first time with the rating system.

If you’d like, take a look!

Really loved your game. There is a little story and atmosphere is nice. Also I loved the effect with switching the controls backwards. I didn’t expected it and when it happened I was like “WTF is wrong with my keyboard!”, and than seconds after it was “Awwww :)”.

9hrs to go!

Time’s almost up.

I’d like to say in advance that it will have been a wonderful and interesting experience to take part in this competition. That said, it’s less of a fight against time and more of a very advanced keep-your-body-running-simulatorTM

PeterTheSkater!

Do you like a RUSSIAN HARD STYLE?! Do you like a VODKA?!  Maybe your like a Jake Daniels?.. If you like, JUST PLAY IT!!!

HARD!!!

:з

Update 9! WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE?

Good morning everyone!
HECK.
There’s only about 9 hours left in the JAM. That’s crazy! In the beginning 3 days always sounds like a lot of time. Now that we’re in the final stretch, it never seems like enough.

So let’s get to it:
UPDATE TIME

Where are we?
We’re getting really excited about our project and we can’t wait to have you all play it! Word is, we may even have enemies for you fight this time! (Our last Jam game had combat, but no enemies. Sad day.)

Dan:
Has been going beast mode on getting the levels into the game and tweaking player controls so that they feel just right.

Look at that level!

Josh – Twitch / Twitter:
The power behind the throne. He’s doing everything he can to add all of the features Dan and I can throw at him! I think he’s currently working on adding powerups?

Okay, I just asked and that is correct. Phew.
jif

Denver (That’s me!) Twitch / Twitter:
I’ve been focusing primarily on art and animations for the characters. I did however get to spend a good amount of time on sound effects and music. I still have some more sfx to work on, but I’ve been able to get a good portion implemented so far. I’ve also been in charge of keeping you guys updated on our progress and brewing coffee!

There is is a lot left to do, but we’re nearing the end so here’s lookin’ up!

Cheers!

My first game jam ^^

Hello gamers, here is hamstwerk. So i’ve made a game for the current ludum dare (One Room),and… here it is ! ^^

http://gamejolt.com/games/one-room-but-many-ways-to-go-trough-it/217151

We’re done!

8 hours left but I’m too tired to continue! I’d say it’s turned out pretty well though. Nice little arcade shooter.one

Ludum Dare 37

Try it out!

Rectal Defender, a twin stick shooter about tight spaces

The poop game is here!

In this twin stick shooter you control Poopy (no need to say more) and you need to defend the exit of the… room. Don’t let the enemies escape, otherwise the room will get smaller.

Use WASD to move and mouse to aim and shoot. If you have a controller connected, use the left stick to move, right stick to aim and right bumper to shoot.

The game was made by Emil Dannberger, Ferruccio Cinquemani and Johannes Fornaeus.

Here’s our submission page!

Mini post-mortem:

My entry, Comfort Zone, didn’t go quite as smoothly as last time. I’m please with the result, but it still has some annoying bugs – I’m going to try to fix the most egregious ones today and post a link to a fix version.

The puzzle mechanics are cool, but I honestly still don’t know how to solve the later levels without trying random things yet. I think the mechanics are a little too complex to make for great puzzles (or else they just take a lot of learning to get used to). I mean, the basic mechanic is trivial, but the ways you can manipulate it get pretty complex.

Good bit: It was getting late in the game (2 hours before deadline I think), and I wanted several hours for polish (finishing sfx, title screen, etc…). But I still wanted one more level. I played around for nearly half an hour trying to come up with something interesting, and kept having to dumb it down in an attempt to find a solution. I was about ready to give up, because my latest iteration was seemingly also unsolvable. Then I did something weird navigating around the items on the board that I hadn’t foreseen, and suddenly the solution came into view, and I was like “Oh, cool!” Whew, close one.

ComfortZone

I knew going in that it was a bad idea to battle with Unity’s physics system. And it turned out to be. My mechanics require subverting the physics in many places (since it’s sort of tile-based), and as a result I have a number of bugs (for instance, where the player can glitch out of the walls). Lesson learned, I should have done the collisions/physics manually, since all I need is basic box collision and springs.

What a blast it has been!

It’s not polished nearly as much as I had hoped, the submission process was rushed and I spilled coffee on my keyboard, twice, but here it is, bathing in its webGL glory.

SS_00

It’s a puzzle platformer where the user needs to reach the yellow orb to clear the level. It consists of 11 levels (I was aiming at 15, I’m a bit sad)!

I’ve thought of more elements that I did not have time to implement during the development. I’m considering the possibility to expand on the actual game for an eventual mobile port.

Hello all! I am Jupiter Hadley and I would like to include your game in my compilation video series.

I will be playing around 600 games from the Ludum Dare, 10 per video, for about a minute each – so each will get a little highlight.

The best of the best will be included in a compilation article of my favorites on GameJolt, and they will receive a trophy for their LD profile.

Other selected games will be written up individually on AlphaBetaGamer.com!

I appreciate that, but I have to agree with Teracotta Frog, the Ludum Dare is not the place to charge for reviews – I don’t need one that badly. You may provide great services, but here is not the place to sell them.

What she does is really good for beginners though. If it is your first GameJam or Game at all, seeing someone playing it even if they don’t know what there doing is really nice.

Sorry! I didnt see your comment until today. The first minute of gameplay is basically your first impression to a gamer. A gamer will decide (based on far less than a minute of gameplay sometimes) if your game is worth continuing or if they will move on. I feel that the first minute of each game gives a small feel into what they might be about. People skim my videos to find games that look interesting to play themselves. I also continue playing games that I enjoy and write about them for various websites.

I’m a new streamer, but have watched streams for years. I’m also an avid gamer and hopefully a future game developer. If there are any games in particular you’d like me to try out I will and give my opinion. I will be actively streaming the games I can find on this website in the meantime. You can find me over at:

We are a new website dedicated to write about indie games. We covered current edition of Ludum dare by couple of posts and there will be definitely more posts about this edition of LD. If you like your game to be reviewed by us, please tweet @indi3com and we will certainly do it so. As usual please follow us on Twitter for more.

Hey guys! I’m going to be streaming every night after work this week playing games! Come hang out and link me games you want to see me play!
14. Dec 2016 · 12:01 UTC
at some point this week in daytime GMT, I will be spending a few hours streaming entries. I won’t be able to get through a huge amount because I like to give each game a fair shake, but I will be doing more streaming in the third week of judging as well (Next week I’m off to Spain!).

I’ll be streaming games for the LD37 event. It’ll be my first time ever, but I’ve got to start somewhere.

A few of the best will be highlighted in a short video towards the end of the judging. Visit my channel and comment the name of your game in the channel feed section if you’d like me to play yours game.

Hey folks! We’re a small two person channel that love to play smaller independently developed games. We’re still new to the YouTube gaming space, so we haven’t had the chance to cover ludum dare games in the past, but would love to try out some this time around!

Hey everyone, I’ve started a Youtube channel and will be making videos critiquing Ludum Dare games. These will be fairly thought-out critiques rather than quick first impressions, and as such will take a wee bit longer so I will not be able to cover a huge amount of games. So if you’d like your game to be featured complete the form below. Thanks
