Switchin’ Tools Mate!

I’ve decided I’m most likely making a 2D game this weekend, so I’ve come to the conclusion that I will use Java + Slick2D with Eclipse. I realize that that’s what I used last time, and failed measurably. I recently discovered about hot-code replace in eclipse, so that excites me. I just have to remember to keep things SUPER SIMPLE. I’m fairly confident with my Java and Slick2D skills so it should be pretty fun.

My suggestion if you’re switching some stuff out, make a little micro-LD, right now, a quick game with just a few features, to make sure you know what you’re doing.

Slick2D seems a popular choice for year, make sure you know how to host an applet, and ask for ftp from me of on IRC. We’ll be happy to help.

No turning back

Less then 15 hours are left to go,
People are anxious but the theme is unknown,
And I swear to the powers that be,
That if Kittens are chosen, as our main quest,
I shall make a game featuring billions of kittens beaten to death!

Now that I took that off my shoulders, it’s time for the actual post. So, I said a few good 6 pages back that I’m in, and this is my first Ludum Dare. Got everything set up, both my pc’s and got me enough food to last for this 48 hours. My dev environment looks like this:

(Do not look at the milk and biscuits bowl hiding behind the laptop!!!)

And I’m going to be eating and drinking this pile of so-not-healthy-but-tasty-and-yummy garbage (5 pizza’s, 5 can’s of black coffee, 2 bottles of milk, allot of instant soup and 10 X 3-in-1 packs of coffee + sweets).

Also bought like 6 packs of cigars, because hey, less oxygen = more inspiration, right?

Anyway, I’m going to stream everything (including me sleeping like a wittle pwincess with my wittle hamster) on Livestream, so tune in if you wanna give feedback or plan on screwing around with my mind. I’ve also taken the liberty of sending my room mate and his fiance out of town for the weekend, for peace and quiet. Screenshoots are going to be uploaded hourly on my dropbox account, and spammed on twitter (I’m sure gonna loose allot of followers).

That’s about it. Can’t wait for the compo to start!

I’m in.

Count me in for LD 22. It’s my first time doing anything like this so wish me luck.

Tools: I’ll try to crop up  a game in C++ using SDL, even though I haven’t actually used SDL in anything worth mentioning.

Suggestion: Try Allegro (www.allegro.cc) it offers the same functionality as SDL, is platform independent but it is way easier to use. I always hated SDL for being overly complicated in some regards or rather, lets say annoying to use.

This will be my second Ludum Dare. Time management was my downfall last time around. I hope to do better this time. I’ll be using.

Dear diary.

This will be my first entry.

This sounds crazy… just crazy enough to try it!

I plan to use :

Unity3D Free, with the 2DToolKit library

Photoshop CS3

MonoDevelop, using C#

My first browser-based LD game

I’m going to make an HTML5 canvas game using the GameJS library. I really want people to be able to play my games easily, so it’s time for me to learn something web-based (my three other LD entries were in python).

I’m pretty nervous, because I just started trying out GameJS for the first time tonight, and I’m not very good at JavaScript yet…. I made an HTML5 game for practice last week, and it was pretty painful. Still, now I know it’s possible! Check out my practice game on your HTML5-capable browser if you like:

Wow. Honestly, this is one of the best showings for HTML5 games that I’ve seen. Normally, they all suffer heavily from low framerate. Yours managed *60*! The transitions were smooth, the concept was fun, and the puzzles, especially the last two, were actually quite challenging. Overall, this would’ve made a really nice entry into the actual compo, so I have high hopes and expectations from you! Really, fantastic job!

Really awesome game.

I’m in – LD22

Hi. I’ve promised myself that I would join in the next time plenty of times now, but I have always found excuses, this time is for real!

I’m not a good programmer and I mostly have no idea what I’m doing, but I’ll try to put something together that at least can be mistaken for a game by a casual user. :)

I Haven’t decided in 100% what tools I’ll use, that will depend on the theme and the game I’ll build. But the tools/languages/libraries I’ll choose from are:

Java

Eclipse

Slick

or

Flash AS3

Flashdevelop

Flixel

(I’ve really never done anything real in AS3 or Flixel (except for a quick test game), I just checked it out this week, but this is a good time as any to learn it I guess)

or

C#

Visual Studio 2010

XNA

Other

Paint.net for “pretty” pictures

Musagi or famitracker for “music”

SFXR for sound (suprise!)

XNA FTW!! Do it, really. :)
GreaseMonkey

XNA doesn’t work on anything that isn’t Windows, and by that I mean it won’t work in Wine or Mono. In other words, SAY NO TO XNA (until there’s a version for not-Windows).

Suese says ” use what you are most familiar with!”.

We’re in!

videosapiens and me are in the jam.

We’ll be using XNA, Photoshop, bfxr and notepad!

XNA is epic win! Nice choice! :)

Third LD for me. As usual I will be making a game with Javascript. But this time I try to write the game from scratch without any external libraries or personal basecode. This is going to be an intense and fun weekend. I am looking forward to see at least 1000 games after the event 😉

I’M IN!

Hello everyone! This is my first time participating in Ludum Dare. I plan on writing my game in C++ with a subset of my custom code library which is available here. I may be using Lua for scripting. I’m targeting Windows and Linux, but I’ll port to Mac after the compo if time allows.

OpenGL / SFML
Paint.net / GIMP
Audacity / SFXR / MUSAGI / Guitars
Mappy (if I need tilemaps)

It’s going to be an awesome weekend. Cheers!

I’m in :D

Only one day until the Ludum Dare starts. My pc and tools are almost ready, I can relate with most of the 20 final themes being voted for, my girl is going to stock up on brain food today (thanks, babe!) and I intend to go to bed at a sane time tonight!

Bring it on!

’nuff said.

Keep it!

Hey, I’m Dexter, moderate time lurker first ludum Dare…er (dareist? dareketeer?)

I’ll (most likely) be using flashdevelop, paint.net and sfxr.

I’m in!

My first participation to Ludum Dare

Hi everyone, it’s the first time I join the Ludum Dare and, according to the well-known rules I discovered few days ago I post this little message to share my personal libraries and other programming stuff… Right now, I really don’t know if I will use Unity or Flash (Actionscript 3) but it will be one of them.

Unity 3D

  • My homemade framework (with some static functions and other custom Editor tools : 2D spritesheet animator, cutscene editor, gui editor, etc.). Sorry for the lack of documentation, it’s currently under development but you can try to use it if you want !
  • Maybe I will use the Strumpy Shader Editor if I want to play with Shaders

-or-

Flash AS3

  • Flashpunk will be my first choice, but sometimes I don’t want to use pixel blitting for various reasons (the standard AS3 display list can be very useful for some game concepts).
  • Instead of Flashpunk, I like to work with this little API made by Colby Cheeze. I take the opportunity of this post to thanks Colby about his work, I learn a lot about OOP concepts and Design Patterns by using theses sources.

But maybe I will start from scratch, without any base code. All is now depending on the theme.

So… I’m in too :-) Good luck to everyone and have fun !

(and sorry for my english, I’m a french guy…)
