LD22 December 16–19, 2011

I’m in!

My first Ludum Dare, but I’ve been following it for a while, so I’m really looking forward to it

Planning to use:

Unity (coding with C#)
Visual studio

Art:

Paint, Photoshop, It’ll look dreadful whatever I do :)

Music:

I’m not too sure about this, as I have no musical talent whatsoever, probably will use PixelBlipz.

SFX:

Sfxr!

Hopefully I’ll finish with a working game, and not die from sleep deprivation!

First LD. I’m in!

I don’t know anything and I’m scared but let’s see what happens.

People are declaring the languages and the tools they will be using:

I think I might use gm and photoshop and I don’t know about the sound so we’ll see.

It turns out that it’s good to document your progress. I might be taking screenshots as I go for that.

LD #22: I’m in!

This will be my third attempt, counting mini-LDs, and hopefully my first entry in the real competition. I’ve got a framework which will help me avoid my common mistakes with OpenGL and freeglut, which have eaten at least 5 hours out of both of my previous attempts.

Toolset

  • Language: C
  • IDE: Eclipse
  • Compiler: MinGW
  • Codebase: OpenGL+freeglut, OpenAL Soft+alut, GLEW, SQLite
  • Graphics: Gimp, Flash, Paint.NET
  • Sound: Sfxr
  • Music: Tuxguitar, Linux MultiMedia Studio

This competition, I will be using my own C framework, EngieBits. This will be its first use in a video game, and I suspect I’ll be fixing it often. In its current state, it only handles window management, event listening, drawing via OpenGL, loading files (I’ll put texture binding in before the competition starts), and some simple data structures and game design structs.

Good luck, all!

New Entry Voting Category: Mood

So as of Ludum Dare 22, we’ve added a new entry voting category: Mood

With a theme like Alone, we realize the possibilities for storytelling, sadness, and generally playing with emotion are plentiful. There’s been much debate whether Humor should be retired in favor of a more general category. Mood has been our favorite for a while now, but as a term it doesn’t exactly emphasize humor in any way (if anything, humor gets lost in mood). So to appease both fans of the funny and fans of the serious, we’ll try both.

We hope you like the addition of Mood to the entry voting categories list.

Hopefully Xilefian will be in

I’ll be using C++, the main language I use.

Probably will use the Allegro library as I love it so much, I dislike SDL and I haven’t yet learnt hardware acceleration so Allegro is great for me.

Specialise in raycaster engines, so don’t be surprised if I make one, I may even use my xicast engine, if not possible then I’ll be going with something else, I’m not great with art, or music at that, so will probably go with the obnoxious artsy-fartsy games that are all popular these days.

Will be livestreaming here http://www.livestream.com/xilefian

May have to drop out if life gets in the way (It’s nearly Christmas so it probably will :c ) but this will be my first one so I’ll try my hardest to stick in!

Team Flare is in!!!

Hey Ludumdare 22,

my name is JoeCool and I am in again, but this time not on my own! Guybrush a good friend and ninja game designer joined me!

We are going to use:

  • our Brains, hopefully!!
  • AS3, Flixel, Flashdevelop
  • Gimp
  • Sfxr
  • Audacity
  • Musagi

We wish you guys good luck creating the best games ever and having lots of fun!!

Cheers
Team Flare!

I’m participating.

Using C++ and SFML, should be good fun. First time I’ve bothered with a programming contest of any kind, let alone game programming.

Well then… That was humiliating.

So I spend a few days in Stencyl trying to create a  modular pathfinding system. I could have sworn I’ve checked hundreds of time if an open source pathfinding system was already in place. Only two hours before LD and after two days of bashing my head against dead end after dead end do I realize that there’s been such a system available for over a few months now. Furthermore it’s a lot cleaner, and a lot more effective then my own. I’m not sure if I should be happy because I finally have what I need, or I should be depressed because I have about 2k lines of code that are wasted.

Well anyhow here’s my new tools of war list:
Photoshop CS5
Synfig Studio
StencylWorks (Libraries: Box2D, Flixel, Epic’s Pathfinding.)
XSplit
sfxr
Wolfram Tones/ MUSANGI (Depends on time availible)
Chronolapse

LET’S DO THIS!

Well, if anything you know how to write one yourself :) That counts as something.

Those lines will never be wasted. They have provided valuable lessons on organizing your code and your understanding of path finding.

First Ludum Dare!

Alright, I’m in. Never done this before, but it sounds like a blast!

IDE: Visual Studio 2008

Graphics Editor: Photoshop CS5

Libraries: HGE for graphics, BASS for sound, and Box2D for physics (if appropriate)

Other tools: sfxr for sound generation

I should also declare some pre-existing assets I’ll be using. Specifically, the fonts shipped with the HGE tutorials.

See you guys on the other side!

Code food

Code food for the weekend.
I shall sleep now as I have a full day or real work already done. Once I wake the theme will have been announced!

Though I cannot approve of Dolmio bechemel, I cannot fault the wisdom of preparing a slab of Lasagne to see you through. I am jealous

Could you share :) ?

Im most definitely in!

I’m in! Thanks for the inspiration!

Language: GML for speed

Visuals: pixlr

Music: Hmm… freeplay?

SFX: SFXGEN

Thanks!

Well prepared

pythong here with jlnr. And the goomba will be with us as well!

And yes, vitamins is good for coders, too 😀

I’m in, maybe…

I’m in, maybe. It depends on the theme and whether my frontal lobe suggests some good ideas.

If so, I’ll be using C++, SFML2, Boost, GIMP, GraphicsGale, and some undetermined audio software.

😀

I’m in

All stocked up on food and music, so I’m ready.  Will be using flash. See you there!

My Normal Desk is Boring… Here’s my (Makeshift) Standing Desk!

I was going to post a picture of my regular old desk. But then I decided, “no, I can do better. I can do much better.”

Pictures after the break! 😉

So I did. Enjoy.

Woah! It's all blurry! Is this from the FUTURE?!

It has space for a drink, too?! Is this guy living in NARNIA?!

Is that from indieconversation? Videos?! Without sitting down?! HOLY CRAP!!

This must be the guard animal! Cripes! He's vicious!

I submitted a patent to Ikea, but they told me that it’s a bunch of books stacked in an empty dresser drawer.

Why don’t they recognize my genius?!

Peace, love, and hyperbole,

– Henry

New to this

I’m new to this site, it was recommended to me by a friend. Can someone fill me in on what I’ve missed and what exactly it’s all about

Basically: the site is for the competition in which you create your own game in 48 hours

I’m in

I honestly don’t know how I’ll do but I aim to finish. All stocked and ready for the start.

Using unity3d + javascript
blender
sfxgen
Gimp
and developing on windows.
Good luck everyone.

Im in

I’m in, will be developed in C++/Mooball Source (OpenGL personal library)/TBD

Mooball source:  http://code.google.com/p/mooball10

Oh yea, livestream @ http://www.livestream.com/qpHalc0n

I guess, well I guess I’m in.

Oh man, first time. A LD Virgin. This should be an experience, I’ll be venting all my hate on twitter (@midget31394) and probably all my Eureka moments. I’ll be using:

AS3/Flixel/Flashdevelop for all the code goodness. I’ll probably take a look at the flixel power tools to make my life a bit easier.

ASEPrite for my art needs probably, I would use Photoshop but I tend to get carried away in it.

sfxr/musagi for sounds/music if I get round to them.
