Thinking about the Theme

¨Alone¨ is not exactly an easy theme… I´ll spend the first hour or two thinking up the game… maybe washing the dishes and thinking while I do this.

A quick idea that I had was some sort of shooter or dungeon crawler, where your ¨hitpoints¨ and ¨abilities¨ are defined by the companions that you grab along the way.

When your group is large, you have more options to act, and you can survive more dangerous stuff.

But if you have many people with you, maybe you can´t fit through certain openings in the game area, or you are an easier target…

I´ll keep thinking for a while.

I’m In

Hello, I’m a toolbox extraordinaire, And I’ve decided to go into this last minute. Just kidding, but not about last minute.,

I’m going to be kinda doing a sloppy job, mainly cause I might be short on time

Code: Game Maker 8.O Pro

Music: Fruity Loops

SFX: sfxr

Art: Paint.net

That’s about it.

have a good night//

PS Theme is garbage.

You can’t choose the theme.

Hatters gonna hat.

Our Python lib

As all existing code before compo must be available for everyone, I’ll put here my public repo:

https://bitbucket.org/DiThi/pygamekit

It’s still incomplete and undocumented, but I hope it evolves into a great API.

I’m in

Little late:

Development: XNA Framework 4.0

Graphics: Paint.net

Sound: will be lucky if there is any

Alone!

Love the theme, So happy its not kittens.

I’ve thought of a story as well and will soon be drawing it all up.. Awesome 😀

Let’s do this.

I’m all ready for this challenge. It wount be that easy because I will be working with other friends from another country. And besides I have a kinda fax-modem conection (around 7kb/s) but hey, isn’t this a challenge?

All hardware/software ready. Lets begin.

Yes, those are 2 mouses =3

Am I Alone? – A Perfect Opportunity.

I’ve had an idea floating around in my head for a long time, but it never really got flushed out. What I do know, is that I can easily merge that idea with this competitions theme, Alone. The character you play as is indeed alone in his/her own sense, and that is deeply vital to the story. Extremely vague I know :)

With that said, it’s time for me to finally build a prototype to a game idea I’ve had for awhile, and perhaps twist it a bit to fit this theme better. In fact, I wouldn’t use the word twist, I’d say I can finally flush out the story and elaborate finally. Wish me luck, I’m going to need it.

Gee-Doc, how are ye?

Here’s the google doc for Desolation in Hell. Watch & Comment 😀

Sure…Alone it is

Well, I think I can come up with something to fit the theme. It’s got a few vague ideas floating for me. So I’m in.

Gonna be working with flash, flixel style. The Gimp for arts. If I get around to doing any sound I’ll probably end up recording things with a microphone.

Off and Racing

Started Java Coding already. have my idea down pat, know all the logic I need and I’m basically done coding (in my head of course). Now I just need to build it.

I’m In

Hey guys, time permitting I’m gonna try to enter this one.

Code: Game Maker 8.1 / Game Maker: HTML5

Music: I’ve got a headset mic, a guitar, and enough Audacity skills to distort and reshape random audio from video clips into something semi-musical. Yeah.

Sound: Audacity and SXFR

Art: GM’s image editor

I like the theme. I’ve got some ideas for it. Don’t be shocked if I don’t end up finishing this game. Be shocked if I do complete it. :) Here we go!

Eyyy I’m in!

Interesting theme.. very vague though! Was hoping for something with a little more direction.

I’ll be using Stratus as a framework, source over here: www.redprodukt.com/GPC/Source_Stratus_quest3d.zip

tools: quest3d, photoshop, modo, +ipad with a bunch of apps for audio production and pixelling

really hope my new mic comes in the post tomorrow!

-rich

Alright, Let’s do this

I’m ready.

My idea is pretty simple but it’s worth a shot, chances are I wont finish it anyway.

Nothing to lose by entering, time to start planning.

Putting ideas down

What I have so far as my idea is a basic topdown shooter.

I’m thinking of procedurally generated levels, because I can make it considerably more complex that way and focus on the feel and art of the game. Also because I was expecting randomly generated to win and I’m ignoring the fact it didn’t. 20 votes is very close. 😮

So in my first half hour of coding I’ve drawn a scalable gear… I’m not sure if this is relevant. We’ll see.

Alone, eh? Interesting.

Although I was really hoping ‘kittens’ would win, I like this theme, too.  In fact, I voted for it back in round one.

I don’t have an idea yet, but years of being either completely ignored or mocked in high school, paired with a complete lack of social skills, give me an enormous amount of expertise in this area. :)

Go go go!

Also, totally going in with no basecode, just raw Allegro (and DUMB for .XM playback).

Getting Started

Alright, late to the party a bit, but going to try something.  We’ll see how it goes.  Actually just finished hooking up our new vanity sink to the plumbing, so real context switch here…

Even bought a new mouse yesterday to prepare as the old one was randomly double-clicking.  This one is alright, though still getting used to the middle-click.

Sorry for the randomness, been pretty busy as of late.  Also, been out of the game here since my first competition, so it’ll be interesting to be back.  Need to get better at posting more to my own site though…

Alright, theme.  Alone was one I wasn’t hoping for, but I’ll figure it out.  Actually curious about pulling in some of the runner-ups for a secondary challenge: randomly generated, parallel dimension, and forgotten places.  Ideas are forming…

Also, I’m using this competition as an excuse to learn XNA… probably a bad idea, but I have sort of used it before and am very familiar with C#, so I’m not too worried… yet…

Should stop typing and fleshing out my brainstorm and getting to work!

Good luck to all!

This was easier than I thought!

Great theme to do a quick game with! Here’s the finished result!

hehe just joking! Anyway, the initial class is setup and ready to go! Now I just need to figure out what to do with this theme, It must include a lot of madness, maybe mind tentacles from beyond! Something Lovecraftian perhaps? Anyway, I will take my time to ponder on the initial idea and go full out when I get something off of it! Good luck fellow competitors!

Deployments and set-up

Nearly every hack day I’ve ever been to, deployment always gets left until the last minute, and then goes hilariously wrong.

Not this time.

I’ve set up a git repo at https://github.com/robashton/ld48_22 and I’ve created a heroku app at http://ld22-ashton.heroku.com/ and made sure everything is round-tripping correctly.

Of course, an idea would be good right about now…

Oh well, I’ve got a time-lapse running so I’ll be able to capture the game being made once I finally have some sort of idea.

Theme D:

So the theme for Ludum Dare #22 is out: Alone

Unfortunately, the ideas that immediately jump to mind I either have nowhere near the artistic ability to make them, or they’re completely derivative of Every Day The Same Dream, One Chance, or Halfquake: Amen.

I’d like to stay away from horror, since it seems both too simple and far too complex to really pull off. And again, really overdone with games like Amnesia and Limbo.

You Should Have Left

Game Title: You Should have Left.

Concept:  You find yourself alone.  Compleatly alone.  In a desert.  Exploring a desert and trying to avoid dying for as long as possible, which is never long enough.

Think anti-rougelike.  No threats other then slow starvation, slow dehydration, slow heat stroke. Deal with threats and dangers and the slow insanity of being on your own.  There’s also a fast-forward button.  The longer you live the higher your “score” but perhaps high score isn’t the goal here.  Maybe a quick death would be better.
