LD22 December 16–19, 2011

In with great aprehension

I’m in.

Chronolapsing for posterity, my first HTML5 game. Still trying to decide between GameJs and three.js, I still have a few hours, right?

Yup, I’m in.

Seeing how fun last LD was, I’ll be certainly giving this one a shot.

Not sure how much time I’ve got, though; I’ll try finishing something for the Compo.

Good luck everyone!

Good luck :)

I’m in, too

I’m in for the third time. Will have to cut short on time, I’m taking an archery course on Saturday. Anyway, I’m using:

Gimp

Audacity+sfxr

Anvil Studio

Eclipse

gonna make a java applet again.

Base Code

Do we have a list of all applicants with choice of platform. It would be interesting to know the stats. :)

Obligatory I’m in

Who knows how I’ll do… but I’m in for Ludum Dare 22.

I’m starting holidays this week so the timing is perfect.

Hi all, count me in on this madness.

Best of luck to everyone. and bay the jest flan spin.

I’m in.

I will participate in this Jam, with some friends.

We are going to use Python 3.2 for coding, with pygame.

I’m one of your friends :3

btw, I’m thinking about buying SAI.

I’m in… with limited time

So I’m in but with limited time… I have work and soccer on saturday and the compo opens at 4 am here in SA so I have a slight disadvantage. I will be using Unity to make a web build and a windows build of my game. This is my first LD so I have two questions:

*Am I allowed to use, with their permission, music from my friends’ metal band in my game for the compo and jam?

*Can I enter the same game into the compo and the jam, with the jam version being an improvement because 0f the extra time?

Many thanks

For you first question, no, all game content for the compo must be created within the 48 hours time scope. Not sure about the jam though.
16. Dec 2011 · 12:38 UTC
Compo = you do everything yourself, so no music from friends. (read the rules please v__V), it’s ok for the jam though.

I’m in!

Oh yes, I am. But, first timer, so results are unpredictable :)
Will most likely use my own crappy 2d flash framework, ZnQPF.

In the unlikely event of me going 3d: Polycode or Unity.

/Hannes

Just wondering?

I was just wondering, would I be allowed to use the “Songify” auto tuning app in the Jam?, I think I could make a pretty cool song with it if the theme ends up being kittens.

Literally any content creation app is allowed, as long as all the content itself is created by you during the competition.

Wild Suese On The Loose!

Suese

Git out yer shotgun, ’cause there’s a Wild Suese On The Loose at Ludum Dare 22.

That’s right,  the one and only Suese is competing in Ludum Dare 22 and he’s hoping to make you all regret it!

Good luck everyone, and may the best competitor ROCK!

For competition formality here is a list of tools Suese will be using, including personal libraries.

Suese will be using FlashDevelop and ActionScript 3, and ScITE to develop the code.  He may be using one or all of a few personal libraries created previous to the competition: AS3 ANSI Music Player (plays classic ANSI music),  AS3 FANSI Buffer (for classic ANSI graphics in AS3),  and QuickLINK (a multi-language data serialization, storage, manipulation and reporting library for interfacing with PHP and MySQL servers).  See  http://danmckinnon.net/ludum_dare_tools/ for the source code to those personal libraries.

Suese usually either uses GIMP or MushII to develop graphics.  He prefers run-time generated sound effects and music but may sometimes use Ubuntu Studio (a large suite of tools), his electronic drum kit, keyboard, and a combination therein to accomplish these goals.   Suese runs Ubuntu 10 and Windows XP inside a VirtualBox.  He’ll be recording his progress with GTK CamStudio.

Unless you are entering the jam, you will need to make your personal libraries accessible to other entrants.

A young people is in ! :D

Hi everybody !

It’s my first ludum Dare, and I’m really young because I’m a 16 french teen :)

Let’s code !

I will probably code a c++/SDL/Fmod game, but I can too build a web browser game with standarts Php/javascript libraries… Graphics ? Oh… Pixel’art will rock ;)

Are you ready ? Ready to code ?!  (icons by me ^^)

KITTEN CHALLENGE

This is an official challenge to all Ludum Dare gamedevs.

This weekend, your quest is to put a KITTEN somewhere in your game as an “easter egg”.

This “kitten challange” will be like a meta game in which everyone tries to find the kittens in each game they play. You know you want to.

Do it – for the love of kittens. For the love of meta. For the love of all things LD48.

Edit: Dock was cool enough to make an icon that you should put in your game title screen or game thumbnail screenshots so we know to look for your kitten:

http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2011/12/16/1-kitten-badge/

Finally, be sure to post to the blog using the “kitten-challenge” and “easter-egg” tags.

Here are the tragic results of theme voting. Where’s the kitten love?

1. Alone+227
2. Randomly generated+206
3. Evolution+41
4. Parallel dimension+14
5. Forgotten places-29
6. Falling-77
7. Moon-105
8. Tunnels-108
9. Consequences-113
10. Decay-116
11. Dreams-118
12. Underground-125
13. Time-travel-133
14. Teleportation-148
15. Self-replication-170
16. Territory-284
17. Mechanisms-291

update

OK! I’ve talked with my boss just about 10 mins ago and he sad that I can go home this weekend. So basically it means my work here is officially done and I can participate in the competition. Sadly I haven’t got internet here in my house and have a lot to do prior to moving home. This means I’ll do a  post on sunday from home with the game or the excuse in it. :)

Good game making LD #22!

Edit: I’ve forgotten to mention that I just downloaded Processing. So I’ll see it for the first time when I start coding the game. :)

Edit2: It seems that I need to come back to my workplace at 3:00 and pirate the internet from my 3DS find out what is the Theme… or I just wait for my brother to wake up at 13:00 and ask him to check it for me…

Indication of intent

I have decided that I’m in this time! Those you don’t mind the competition, wish me luck! Those who don’t, I love you anyway!

I’ll be getting a later start since being GMT+2 (sunny ZA, wooo!) places me into the 4am zone when LD48 22 starts.

My toolchain will include:

  1. Unity 3D 3.4 Pro – with my custom boilerplate code library
  2. My own pimped out version of Blender 2.6x
  3. Gimp 2.7.4
  4. TextureMaker 3.1
  5. bfxr
  6. Audacity 1.3.13
  7. Camtasia (for the obligatory time-lapse video, possibly with my lively mush on the side showing my concentrated face.)
  8. My HTC Desire for all my photo, video and sound recording needs
  9. My twitter account to tell everyone what I’m doing: @wahooney
  10. I can’t think of a 10th item, but I added one for the sake of symmetry
Happy Daring, everyone.

Final Round of Theme Voting

I was curious which theme would win based on the total votes they got in the previous rounds. So I put them in a google doc, sorted them, and guess which came out on top…

KITTENS!

Wait a sec… the numbers… oh. I had it sorted in ascending order.

Unfortunately, it appears that random generation wins based on previous votes, but I hope this prediction turns out to be false.

I like making games that use random generation, but that’s exactly the point. My games already always have random generation, so this theme does nothing for me. If this theme wins, it’ll be a boring contest for me. Secondly, I bet that artists wouldn’t like it much, because random generation is something that you have to code/logicize/whatever. Although I’m sure a few things could be done with art style for random generation, it doesn’t really seem fair in that regard. There is a third reason that essentially disqualifies it, but I won’t mention that, because it’s kind of too late.

I got a message about this from a friend, in fact… maybe it will convince you.

“There are consequences for this evolution of theme voting… alone will randomly generated be the antihero of decay, for only in a parallel universe, in some forgotten place, will the mechanism of my dreams shape-shift into the territory where, upon reflection, the self-replicating fall towards a theme travels in time with me, to the tunnel of the conscious world. Then… then the teleporting moon-kittens strike, their underground movement taking force.”

He has a thing for bolding words. He’s weird.

Getting psyched!

Or I’m going Psycho, I don’t know. I still haven’t set up my build environment, which I really wanted to have prepared in advance.

Language: C++
Graphics/game engine: Whatever the latest Irrlicht is.
Sound/Network: SDL
Editor: Vim
Build system: CMake

My question to all of you: Is it okay to take a “project framework/template” and build from that? I’m talking No Code, only pre-prepared make-files, etc. On another note: who will know/check it? That is actually another question: Even though I wouldn’t dream of it + it kind-of goes against the whole idea of the competition, but HOW could anybody check that I’m actually not using stuff that I’ve had lying around from before? Do I HAVE to have a live-feed of my desktop, or what?

I’d really appreciate some answers to these two questions =)

I’m in!

This is my first participation in LD

looking forward to this!

Target platform: Unity 3D Webplayer

Code: C#

Art:

  • Photoshop/ProMotion/Maya

Sound:

  • BFXR / CFXR

Hoping for a Kitten theme, but i’ll roll with whatever it is :3

I’m In

After spending like 5 min trying to come up with some witty title I just stuck with I’m In and decided to put a silly meta witty explanation into the actual post. 😉

Anyway I’m competing in the Jam with a few friends, will probably try the actual comp next time

Will probably be using C++/SDL and possibly Box2d (if we need any sort of physics) for everything, lest we decide to be crazy and do something 3d in which case we will use Ogre.

Ill guess we’ll see what happens then.

LD 22

Giving it a shot this time. The result will either be 48 hours of relative fun or sheer hell filled with ramen noodles and caffeine. Either way, I’m in.

Have to ponder a bit about the tools and the system I’ll be using — it really does depend on what the theme is and what ideas I pull from it. I’m hoping for “kittens”.

Allright!

I’m in! First time for me!

Depending on the actual theme… I’ll be using:

LibGDX, Eclipse, GitHub, Blender, Gimp, Inkscape, bfxr, Audacity, WolframTones, Autotracker-Bu, Arbaro, Structure Synth and no kittens!

Cleaned up my desk

And by that I mean, I just moved all the stuff from my desk to somewhere else so my desk looks clean enough.

I originally thought about using some kind of “Double desk” joke, but it didn’t feel right.

The practical thing about having two desks is, while one of the computers is busy compiling or doing whatever, I can still be productive on the other machine. My white macbook on desk #2 isn’t good enough to run Horde3D, but I’ll find some use for it like posting status updates or tweeting. :)

Let’s hope it’s easily fixed. It might not be as bad as you fear. :)

I’m still in! (about that warmup game…)

It’s ready! Well technically I dumped the initial concept and threw something else together instead, and I guess it’s not actually ready either… hum, well then it’s playable!(Sort of)

I started working on my warmup game on Monday, then stopped working for two days(…). It’s not very fun, but it definitely serves it’s purpose at making sure all the tools I’ll use work. You can get the game here:

http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-22-warmup/?action=preview&uid=5673

I am now ready for Ludum Dare! Since I did this last time too, here’s a picture of my setup:

And again, good luck to everyone participating this weekend!

Also In

Depending on the theme I’m using

  • emacs + evil
  • JavaScript
  • HTML/CSS
  • Pixelmator
  • ImpactJS
  • jQuery, Backbone, RequireJS
  • Maybe some CherryPy

Omgggg not ready

Yeah, so we’re at T-minus 11.5 hours and that warmup game I wanted to do never happened (though I’ve been playing around with SDL.net!) and I still haven’t figured out whether SDL.net is viable for cross-platform.  It’s looking pretty good, but I really want to do some more testing today.

On top of that, I want to be able to make myself a nice main loop sometime in the next 10 hours or so.  I’ve found that just using the plain tick-60-times-a-second and draw-to-the-screen-every-time results in some jerkiness, so I’m assuming vsync is disabled.  I think the ideal way of doing things is to use a fixed timestep, then save the render state (probably just as a plain old surface) from the previous frame so that I can do linear interpolation between the current frame and the previous frame depending on how much time is in the “accumulator” that is “left over”.  The good part is that I actually think I’ve wrapped my head around the whole concept, so hopefully it shouldn’t be that hard to actually get working.

So, checklist for the next 10 hours or so:

-Check cross-platform compilation of SDL.net again (using Mono)
-Play around with using the Sprite class
-Set up a nice main loop with fixed timesteps and silky-smooth motion (bonus points for getting starter code up)

The good news is that developing with SDL.net is feeling a lot like XNA did–maybe even better.  I love the fact that compilation is so fast, and that debugging isn’t a pain.  I think C# just really clicks for me.  Someday I’ll try out Python, but right now that’s the “funnest” language I have.

I’ve been running on less-than-normal sleep lately since this week has just been packed with stuff, so I might actually just spend the initial parts of LD trying to catch up on rest.  Been having to do stuff like deliver xmas stuff, dance events, finals, final projects, etc.

I finished LoopMuse this week actually, as a final project for a class and that was made in a grand total of 3 days worth of work.

On the off-chance that I find out SDL.net is totally borked in some way or I just get fed up, I might instead use my old standard–C++ with SDL and OpenGL, in which case I will be using starter code, which will be ripped from one of my existing projects, such as this one on github (trying to disclose my starter code here in consideration of the rules).  Or I might be crazy and just use pygame despite very rarely programming in python.

…on the plus side!  Making music for my game should theoretically be a synch, as I’m used to making 5-minute songs in one hour.  Check out what I made for yesterday’s “One Hour Compo” here: http://compo.thasauce.net/files/DDRKirby_ISQ__-_Shooting_Star(OHC166).mp3

We are in!

Geopixel and I will be working as a team under my name for the jam.

Things we will be using:

Best of luck to everyone. Have fun!

EDIT: This is our first Lundum Dare :)

Lets do this!

I’m in

I am going to use
Programming: Xna framework, visual c# express edition
Graphics: Paint.net
Sound: fl studio, sfxr

That worked well for me the last time.
This is my second ld and I’m hoping to make a bigger game then last time.

I am in

I am in!  Exam schedule worked out this year with ludum dare.  I will be using pygame with python 2.7 and sfxr.  As an added challenge to myself, whatever the category is my sub-theme and title must have the word Christmas and the theme in it.  Ie. “Alone” should be the game “Christmas Alone”  or “Time Travel” should be “Time Travel Christmas”.  Wish me luck!

LD #22 – I’m in!

I’m in!

I’ll be using Multimedia Fusion 2.

The voting is rigged! The theme is kittens!

Have at thee!

Let’s try this 😀 I’m in, and I’ll be dev’in with Unity.

What a woman can do in a world of men

Hi guys, so I’m in for this LD. It’s my first one and I feel it will be kind of epic.

I’ll be part of the boobs quota I guess ^^; (yeah a gamer girl)

So, let’s talk about tools :

  • ’cause I’ma game designer who’s bad at coding I’ll use Construct 2 with HTML5+Javascript of my own or Multimedia Fusion.
  • I’ll graph with Illustrator or Photoshop or Paint Tool Sai.
  • And as for sounds&music, well, I guess it will be Sfxr and maybe Otomata.
I wish you all a good jam !

6 hours left and I’m in

My first ludum dare, hi everybody :)

What I use:

  • IDE/Language: Visual Studio C# Express 2010 / XNA Game Studio 4.0, Softdrinks
  • Framework: XNA and personal code (solution/project file) which I wrote this week to simplify agent modeling, drawing/animation, collision, softdrinks, moving, font-/sound-usage, input- and screen-handling; also a personal intro screen
  • Sound: sfxr/bfxr/softdrinks
  • Graphic: GIMP, Inkscape, a scanner and a pen
  • Additional: Softdrinks

ludum dare starts 03:00 am here… yeah :D

My game

So I read I need to say what libs i’ll be using. Slick2d, with ibxm and lwjgl.

1 more sleep!

Off to bed and then it’s time to rock out!

I’m In!

Yep, that’s right, LD22 here I come! This is my third time in the competition (third time lucky, right?), but my tools haven’t changed much:

CODING:

  • AS3
  • FlashDevelop
  • FlashPunk
  • Possibly Sos’s little platformer library (link)

ART/MUSIC

  • GIMP/Paint.NET
  • Nanostudio/fl Studio (if I have time)
  • SFXR
Good luck everyone!

I’m In!

Ludum Dare #3 here for me. Never finished the past two, but it was fun nonetheless. Perhaps 3rd time will be a charm. Each time I do one of these, even if I don’t finish, I get a lot of good features added to Coggoid. So… LD22, here I come. This time around I may be working together with NeonLare in the Jam. I guess we’ll see what we feel like doing when the theme is announced. The image above is a shot from a game him and I have been working on for some time now called “Zon”. (I swear, Coggoid CAN make games 😉 )

As for tools/libraries/whatnot, it’s the usual round-up for me:

  • CoggoIDE
  • Blender for modelling, perhaps some procedural texturing
  • Paint Shop Pro 7 for any other texturing sort of stuff
  • Probably SFXR and Audacity for sounds (assuming I get this far)
  • LMMS/Musagi for music (doubtful, but if I’m doing the jam with NeonLare, he’s the musician anyways)
Good luck to all! Hopefully I don’t completely fail my 3rd attempt as well :)

What’s up with the Coggoid website? I tried to check it out but everything just tells me I’m not logged in 😐
16. Dec 2011 · 18:59 UTC
I’d moved over from a different web host and haven’t gotten a chance to set my database back up. There wasn’t a whole lot up there. I’ve mostly just been working on the engine itself, it’s not really ready for “public consumption” (I do have a few people trying it out, but I haven’t made much in the way of tutorials, just some basic documentation), but thanks for the interest! 😉

I’m in!

I’m also in!

I’ll be using XNA… I thought about doing something with Java and Slick2D first. But I’m not yet comfortable enough in that to finish a game in 48h so I’ll stick with XNA.

Soooo….

Code:

  • C#
Sounds:
  • sfxr
  • Music with real instruments!
Art:
  • paint.net
  • inkscape
Good luck everyone and have fun! EDIT: And here’s the obligatory link to the library I’m using. Nothing fancy, just some helper stuff for math and audio. Found on github -> https://github.com/Th3dz/Ludum-Dare-48

I’m in! Or not… Maybe?

Everyone’s got to start somewhere. Aw heck, I’m going to regret this.

If you don’t see a game from me in a couple of days assume I’ve died from frustration.

EDIT:

Tools:

Code: FlashDevelop with Flixel or Flashpunk.

Art: GIMP ^_^

Sound: BFXR

Music (if time): PXTone

Term just ended so I’ll probably have a lot of time, but I doubt I’ll be able to spend as much time on it as some…

French fag incoming!

I’m in and that’s all!

My game:

XNA + paint + my mouth => \o/

Plan: Finish.

I’m in. The entirety of the plan is: Write game, and FINISH PROJECT BEFORE END OF DEADLINE.

Tools:
Server side: emacs/jed; python; some fastcgi implementation that I worry about later.
Client side: multiple browsers (modern) and I don’t care if IE doesn’t work. _Period._ Jquery. Debug tools.
Code side: Textmate; ipython; git.
Mindmap/brainstorm side: android tablet awesome notes.
drawing side: android tablet + autodesk sketch, maybe graphx2, maybe gimp, maybe photoshop.

Now, I need to prepare some stuff, go to the store, be sure I’ve got bread or rice stuff, apples; I have beer and I should avoid that and gin; I have tea.

Topic wise: I’m fine with any. I’ve pre-thought out some ideas. Those ideas work surprizingly well with most any concept I can throw at it; so the mindmap/brainstorm bit will be … unruly.

I need to set out music for the next 2 days. Scenesat may have periods of “crap I do not want to listen to right now” and I should _avoid_ EYEHATEGOD due to the darkness (outside.) Really I may just do the whole weekend with drone and the occasional period of xpander.

Oh, and, I should update all the server side components and be sure I’m all set for that. Yep. I think I’m fairly well set for planning. I wonder how exporting that stuff from the tablet will work… should see that too.

I’m in for the jam

I might only spend a few hours a day, but I’ll see what I can get done.

I’m going to use pygame, box2d, inkscape, gimp, and bxfr.

I’ll also use my own framework, which isn’t polished yet.  This is mainly why I’m doing the Jam instead of the main compo. If possible, I’ll improve my framework before the next LD so it’ll be usable by others.

I’m In… I think

Wanted to participate for a while, but the timing always seems bad for me. Again I have full day plans both Saturday and Sunday so my time to work will be rather limited, but I figure I might as well give it a shot this time around.

What I end up using may depend on the theme, but will be some subset of C++, Flash CS5, Irrlicht, LMMS, SFXR, Photoshop and Angel2D most likely.

Hello!

Here is Functioning, an SDL-based game framework written in Standard ML:

https://github.com/robsimmons/functioning

I hereby declare my intent to use Functioning for Ludum Dare 22.

First timer

This will be the first time I participate so I’m probably gonna take it easy, I will be using my own codebase that is publicly available on Google Code

Graphics will be done in GraphicsGale and sound with BFXR and coding with Eclipse. The game will be a HTML5/JavaScript game and I will try to keep away from using any AJAX calls so that I can zip the thing for local usage! :)

Use WebSockets. WebSockets security is not implemented using domain-oriented policies! Check out socket.io (for NodeJS) and APE for some servers that already exist (though APE will fall back to other transports if WebSockets aren’t available.)
16. Dec 2011 · 14:11 UTC
Hey I looked at your GCode project… where are the examples? The repo doesn’t contain any unit tests or examples :(

I’m in!

I only have a day and then I have to catch a flight, but I’ll give it my best shot.

I’ll be using Flixel and maybe the Box2d library.

I’m late but I’m in!

Ahoy all!

I’m glad to say I’ll be entering LD22 this weekend, this is my 2nd LD and I hope it will be as much fun as the previous one. I am already super tired but it will hopefully help me having creative ideas =)

Here are the tools I will be using :

  • Asana
  • HaXe (with FlashDevelop )
  • Bacchus 0.2.2 (personnal framework) – download here
  • Adobe Photoshop CS3
  • Propellerhead’s Reason (and possibly Records)
  • BMFont (if needed)
  • Tiled (if needed)
  • BFXR (if needed)

I have already done the mandatory junk food shopping, I have created a new Bacchus project, tested BMFont and prepared a web page ready to be filled with release notes. Now I need to clean my desktop and tune my guitar before I can take a nap.

Good luck to you all!

More details on my participation

So I will be participating in the Jam with two friends (Carduus for the graphics, Mathieu for the music).

I’ll code in AS3 with FlashDevelop (probably no framework) and I’ll make a timelapse of it.
I’ll be tweeting: http://twitter.com/#!/OIIOIIOI
I’ll be on IRC on the official chan and on the french one.
And I’ve set up a blog where I will post our progression and stuff like that: http://01101101.fr/ld48/

Can’t wait for this to start! 😀
Good luck to you all!

Also, no kittens, thank you 😉

Flyinpancake is IN.

Fate has sent me to this corner of the internet on this day.

10 Hours Before it happens.

I’m in!

Again! Still have never submitted an entry but made many attempts… maybe this time!

I’m in

Here we go again !!!

for this time will take a chance on a HTML5 game framework called vaca5

for the graphics as usual paper and pencil + scanner + inkscape

LD22 – I’m in. Sort of.

So after some major rewrites of the prometheus library its almost done. I say almost – and its now t miunus 9 hours and here is what does not work… Yet.

  • The XML handling system & TMX parsing system as a result.
  • The OpenAL audio system.
  • The FBO system for primitives and shaders.
  • The WINAPI interface system for windows systems.

So, looking good I guess! On the other hand, mint 11 is still rocking my world – my new PC is minus a motherboard which is shipping its way to me and needs an OS installed… On to the good  news: GIMP, Paint.Net, VMWare Player, Geany and the usual LMMS work!

Here we go!

Sorry, fixed!

I’m in, but poorly equipped

I certainly am. Nothing special, because it’s my first ever Ludum Dare. I’ll be using Game Maker. Not pro, because I lost my copy of Pro recently and I’m short of cash at the moment. So that’s it basically. I have Game Maker Trial Version.

We’ll see how that goes.

Oh, and Bfxr for sounds.

My First LD

Well, I’ll probably join. I’ve never really made games before, but I’ll be using Stencylworks.

I know how you feel. I have made games before, but never this competitively.

Speculation About Things – Promises for the Coming Storm

I’ve decided several things about my LD entry, and these are final.

  • I will use JavaScript and HTML5 for my game
  • I will try to spend the jam day on a nice page for the game
  • I will not decide on my game concept until the theme is announced
  • I will not change ideas half-way through (not this time)
  • I will not give up, I will never surrender

I have some promises for everyone here, especially those who know me.

  • I will keep my emotions under control
  • I won’t decide that I don’t have the stamina to continue
  • I will sacrifice sleep if necessary
  • I won’t decide half-way through that my game is rubbish
  • I will use my time effectively
  • I won’t spend half of the time on scaffold code

This time, things are different. This time, this time, this time I will give it my all.

However…

Failure is always an option!

Peace, love, and courage in the face of the inevitable,

So many crap games are made because the makers are too afraid of failure to try something new. Go forth brave coder and risk the failure for it will make your victory so much sweeter.

It’s Taco Time!

We are in for the Jam. Will be assembling a makeshift office this afternoon out of taco shells and sour cream.

Ingredients:

  • Platform: iOS
  • Language: Obj-C
  • Frameworks: cocos2d, chipmunk, more depending on theme
  • Graphics: Photoshop, Flash, Wacom
  • Music / SFX : Mouth + mic, 8-bit magic box, telecaster, whatever else we can make noise with
  • Other: tacos, agua, pellet stove

Third time’s the #¤%!

I think I’m in. Just got a daughter three weeks ago, but I *might* be able to squeeze in ~4h during the weekend. =)

  • Language: C#
  • IDE: MonoDevelop
  • Libraries: OpenTK, Mono, Monogame
  • Graphics: Unsure
  • Sound: as3sfxr

Yaay, go for it! \o/

Here goes another attempt

I’m going to go for the Jam

I’m trying to learn and use Unity 3D, but I’m not good enough (yet) to be able to create all my own assets. I will be trying to use blender or wings3d to create assets whenever I can, but have little experience with making fresh 3d models.

This is going to be fun.

Edit: I got something to a working state. It’s not exactly a game, but a “tutorial” level that taught me a lot about Unity. I should be ready for the next one.

We’re in!

Ludum Dare always looks like a lot of fun from the outside, time to find out if it’s as much fun (or more?) when you actually take part. My friend Gijs and I will be taking part in the Jam. I will be doing most of the coding, he’ll bring his considerable artistic skills to the table.

Don’t expect a masterpiece or anything, we just want to finish something. Playability and fun are priorities.

One thing I’m not 100% sure about: is it okay for the Jam to use Creative Commons sounds and music? Or is that not in the spirit of the event? Let me know what you think in the comments.

Tools

  • HTML/Javascript, with a little quickie homebrew framework I whipped up today.
  • Probably Photoshop Elements for the graphics, with a dash of Gimp (mostly for the programmer art :-).
  • Audacity for sounds, and maybe something like Bfxr.
  • Notepad++, Firefox, Firebug.

Have fun everyone!

I’m IN!

w00t! My first Ludum Dare.

Going to be using C99 with SDL and OpenGL. Going to use lmms for audio and gimp for graphics.

Hmm, change of plans?

I’m still in but I’m debating moving my project over to Java (w/ LWJGL for rendering) for compatibility reasons. I was originally going to go with C# and OpenTK, but I’m not sure how much people want to install the OpenTK frameworks on their computers to play. Then again, can I even bundle LWJGL with my application?

This may or may not be my downfall, however. I’m pretty terrible at java but I have SOME idea of what I’m doing with it, considering that I’ve been using it to develop a dungeon crawler for the past few months or so. I had made a prototype for my engine in C# which was going to be my warmup game but it ended up being too ambitious so amusingly enough I’ll be finishing it AFTER my main compo game, heh. But, I have about 8 or so hours to get most of my test engine working in Java. I’m probably just going to port the rendering and basic gameplay logic bits, so I don’t have to deal with too much that I lose my motivation. Rendering is going OK, but I need to ensure that my game logic timing is correct. I’m too used to OpenTK just giving you a GameWindow where you can set the tickrate of your game without the need to do timing yourself. Meh. I’m just happy that the rendering is going good, though loading textures was a pain. At least my texture manager system seems to work OK. (just a key/value pair where the key’s the filename and the value is the texture name/id)

In LD48 tradition, here’s a crappy shot of my workstation:

(click for better)

The purple circle is an Interstel Security Access Code Wheel, and you can see a star chart shoved into the distance there. Anyone remember StarFlight? The Mousepad is an OOTS mousepad I picked up a few months ago, and the keyboard is a Unicomp Customizer 105 I’ve had for several years now. The DELL mouse is what you get when your mouse breaks and you have only one available. Under my main monitor, you can see an old computer manual, from my 386, and I have no idea what the crap behind my monitors is, heh. I don’t use that space.

Doesn’t OpenTK ship as a DLL. It should be easy enough to bundle it up in (at very least) a Windows friendly way.

LD22 projection

I figured this might be interesting to some people, to see how little time I project I will actually get to spend — hopefully this makes my entries make a little more sense.

1. design  Friday night max 2 hrs.  asset creation Saturday morning max 4 hrs.

2. asset creation / code development – saturday 11am-1pm, 3-5pm?

3. testing – either saturday 5-7pm and/or sunday morning 1-2 hrs.

4. release – saturday beta, sunday final for competition in morning.

Max total: design 2, development /asset creation 8, testing 4 = 14 hours.  Of course, this doesn’t count family time where I am thinking about what has to get done, just the actual max time I may be able to put hands to keyboard.

I’ll join…

…and create a crappy game using Game Maker 8, FL Studio, Photoshop, Paint and bfxr. yay ^__^

I am in~!

Hello all, this is Colto!

This is my first Ludum Dare, and I must say, I’m very excited to be participating.

Tools of Doom!

Coding:
C#
SunBurn Indie Engine (minimal, but necessary for the next item)
Indiefreaks Game Framework

Graphics:
Paint.NET (and maybe GIMP if needed)

Audio:
Bfxr
MuseScore (if I don’t run horribly out of time)

See you on the grid side~

I’m in!

Hi! I’ll also participate in LD 22. Last time I couldn’t finish my game but this time I’m ready. I’ll be using  FlashDevelop with Flixel and Flixel Power Tools for programming. For graphics probably Inkscape or Illustrator, Photoshop  and Flash for animation (a little complex workflow that  I recently tested). For sound sfxr and Audacity. No music (probably).

I’m ready for kittens.

I’m in!

I don’t know how much of the 48 hrs I can spend for LD but I’ll definitely give it a try. Hope the theme gives me some nice and fast to implement idea. If it’s kittens, then I have one idea less cause I just made a game with kittens for the warmup.

Tools:

  • Python
  • Pygame
  • Gimp
  • Musagi
  • Audacity
  • Bfxr

Good luck and have fun to every participant.

I’m in!

So, this shall be my second Ludum Dare. I’m currently in London and will be travelling back home tonight… giving me an hour or so to get ready, sleep, and crack on with whatever the theme is tomorrow morning!

Also: Kittens. Really? I’m sure I can get one in somewhere. Everyone likes Kittens…

I shall be using Stencyl this time around, GIMP for graphics and probably wont get around to audio again… but we’ll see.

So, have fun everyone! See you on the other side :)

Pipelines pipelines.

I have set the project. Empty window is launching. Gameloop just need the game.

I am plannign to use:

My own Light library http://code.google.com/p/box2dlights/

Box2d debugrenderer for prototyping.

Maybe I can use physic particles to do something pretty. There is my test to show about 20k particles rendering 60fps while capturing the video.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bNkTgMXXj4

I hope that theme will allow me hack  some fluid simulation something like you can see Where is my water.

I also planning to use purely gles2.0 but I have never used it before for anythign really. Maybe shaders aren’t that hard at all. 😉

I’m in!

OK, so this is my first time entering LD, hope all goes well! I will be using:

Game Maker Pro
Paint.NET / GIMP
bfxr

Wish me luck!

IM IN LD22

First LD. Curious about the possibility of making a game with the theme kittens but am looking forward to others.

Coding:
c# with XNA

Graphics:
paint.net

Audio:
don’t know yet

First LD.

Looking forward to it, getting some of my code-rust off.

I’ll be using:

Code: C# with XNA

Visuals: Paint.Net and/or Inkscape

Audio: sfxr, no idea on what to use to make background audio though.

Also, I’ll be doing my work on this machine right here. If I can’t get it to work lagless on this one, I’ll drop out. Yes, really.

The Stage3d is set…

So I’m in for another Ludum Dare (as long as the theme isn’t too silly…). I’ll be joining the #MidlandsIndies in Coventry tomorrow, but may spend Sunday at home in front of my ‘real computer’, as I struggle to be productive on a laptop in an unfamiliar environment…

This time, I’m giving up my usual C++/D3D this time, and I’m going to use Flash (AS3 in FlashDevelop) using Stage3D!

I’ve put together a little framework for doing sprite-based 2D games using Stage 3D. I call it ‘Turbo2D’, and the source is available here, if anyone fancies messing with Stage3D themselves.

There’s also a little test/demo here!

Might be in…

I have a 5 hour plane ride in between the compo (plus more time in security/checkin) depending how fast that is, and if I sleep on the plane I may be in!

If so I will use

Unity3D-C# or XNA

inkscape or blender

maybe sound.. bfxr?

Pizza!

go go self-rep!

I’m in

Well, I am in.

Tools to be used :

Language: Python

Art: Photoshop

Sound effects: sfxr

This is going to be interesting, this is my first Ludum Dare.

Leveleditor

Since I will use HTML5 and CoffeeScript I decided to use this leveleditor for my game: http://www.mapeditor.org/

The reason is that this one can export in json files which is easy to read.

I hope this post will help someone.

Warmed-up and READY to go!

Hey!

I submitted my warm-up game “Bouncy Bouncy“. And it looks like I’m ready to go.

Also mi updated setup is that:

Compiler: GCC and mingw (for cross-compiling)

Library: SDL and my framework (GameLib)

Graphics: GIMP

Sound: Audacity and Sfxr/Bfxr

Timelapse: Glapse

Hardware: Gigabyte M912

And well; the required “desk” shot:

I supose that makes me a couch-gamedev 😀

Hello!

This will be my first ludum dare ( or any type of programming contest in a matter of fact ) so I’m super excited :) I decided to participate in this less than hour ago, so I am panicing at the moment a lot! Right now, I’m gonna take 5 hour nap, then I’ll start getting ready to kick some… geeks. I will be using C#, XNA and something to make textures ( I dont know! *more panicing* ). Anyways, I wish you all best luck. Sleeping ->

As for the Poliwhirls, I found them in my loft and never put them back :)

Cool, so I’m in ^^

So yeah so this time I’m gonna stay in and make something… even if it turns out to a broken buggy mess xD

Gonna use Stencyl ‘cos have been looking over it the past few days and it seems awesome.

Declaring that I’m gonna use the Platformer Movement pack of behaviors and the Scene Change behaviour on StencylForce … even though am betting I get inspired to do something that’s not a platformer, we shall see xD

I’m also in

Hi,

I hope to finish a game, which in that case will be the first time ever. o_o

My platform will be HTML5. My tools will likely be Emacs, Inkscape and FamiTracker.

Best wishes all around!

I`m in!

Hello!

I will try to make a game for my first Ludum Dare.

I`m not good at it, but i hope i`ll learn a lot!

Good luck everybody!

I’m in: Ruby, Gosu, and Chingu.

I are in!

I’m in! I’ll try, but wont expect to do amazingly well 😛

This is my first time in LD, can’t wait to get cracking ^_^

I’ll be using Java with Slick2D, and Paint.NET for all of the ugly pretty pictures

Sound will probably be just me making throwing noises together in Audacity

I am joining

I am joining for the first time.
Good luck everyone!

I am in !!

Again i am in ,hoping to submit something this time ^^ ‘

I’ll be using Construct classic (or construct 2 still not sure ).

Anyway best of luck to everyone. Have fun!

I guess I’m in

Hey!

Found out about this new Ludum Dare yesterday and for some reason thought it would be a good idea. Now I’m beginning to realise how badly prepared I am, but what’s the worst that can happen?

Language: Java
Framework: LibGDX
I’ll worry about everything else if/when I get there.

Good luck everyone.

If you can compile, then you’re ready.

I’m in!

Hi,

This is my first Ludum Dare, so I’m probably woefully unprepared. I do, at least, have 2 bags of coffee on stand by to make up for the time zone differences (2 a.m.!).

Tools list: Flash, FDT, Pixelmator, cfxr and as much chocolate as possible.

Good luck y’all!

In

In again for this one.

AS3, Flash Develop, Paint.net.  Hopefully I can still manage to complete this considering I’ll be coding 12-hours or so in the car while we drive to my brother’s graduation.  Think I’ll have to keep my scope in mind in the project I decide on.

I’m in.

I’m taking the easy route though, with Unity 3d.  I like to play with data structures more than engine development.

DarkEdge is in!

Hey everyone :)

It’s that time again 😀 I’m listening to some smooth jazz at the moment… Anyway, I’m in for Ludum Dare 22. The tools I “might” be using are:

Eclipse, LWJGL, Slick2D, JBox2D, TileD, bfxr, Audacity (if the bfxr’s floating point wav’s are annoying me again) and Paint.NET. I might have forgetten something there.

I’ll be setting up Chronolapse again, and put a video on youtube afterwards.

Well, I’ll probably stay up until  2 AM local time to check the theme, and then go to sleep. Depends on how long my friend is planning to stay here tonight :p

I wish everyone the best of luck! Everyone can make games!

P.S. WE NEED DUTCH LUDUM DARE MEETUPS
