LD22 December 16–19, 2011

So… Alone.

I was hoping for randomly generated, but Alone is a great theme too. Just starting, though you won’t believe where I am!

A little rusty

Things aren’t going as fast as I’d hoped, but we’re progressing anyway. Feast your eyes on this lovely programmer art! Hopefully in the next update, things will be a little prettier.

Anyway, we settled on an idea. It’s a puzzle game with 2 people (blobs/things/whatever 😉 stuck in different dimensions. They are both Alone but can influence each other by ‘flipping’ platforms over to the other dimension. It’s not fully formed yet though, so lots of work left. The plan is to have an actually playable version this afternoon, then start polishing and designing levels.

It’s a lot of fun to do though!

Hour 2-8

In-game screenshot this time. Coded it up using flixel + flixel power tools.

Controls, collision, abilities and some map randomization is in place.
Characters are also animated, which took waaay too long.

Had some strange flixel problems. fading doesn’t work as I thought and rotation is kinda messed up.
Lost quite a bit of time trying to get that to work.

Tempus fugit!

Time for some food + thinking about mechanics.

I’m in :D

so, after many hours of toying around with the idea (since the theme was announced) ive decided. I’m in. ive already figured out an idea. its gonna be a platormer, Black and grey. The player will have to navigate a tunnel (possibly more) while avoiding various hazards and traps. oh yeah, this will also be my first time so i probably wont finish it, but this will give me the push to actually finish something and not fall into an endless loop of procrastination.

I wake up to THIS!

I woke up from my pre Ludum sleep to see Alone as a theme.

I’m not trilled as it more dictates a story style then a gameplay style as as most people were not going to have any AI in there game anyway all games would have been alone anyway…….
But I do hope we get something interesting out of this!
I’m jumping between 2 ideas at the moment. I’ll let you know once i am sure.

Minor progress..

My snake game now has some obstacles..

Not sure if the red “kill blocks” are actually even needed.. I could make the snake start as a long one and the red doubt starts creeping from the tail and if it reaches the head, the game ends. And when the snake is “cleared”, part of it would disappear, making the snake shorter and hopefully the game harder. I think I’m going to have to try it. :)

Have a Nice, Dank Dungeon

Before I go to bed, I better post what I’ve done.

It liiiiiiiives

Play a demo here.

And now, I’m off to sleep.

I’ll be watching this closely.

Surume concept art

when time is short, spend it on pre-production.

Morning all!

Just woke up, and I’m ready to code… or brainstorm. Yeah, it’s probably best to know what to do before I make it.

Also, no one has a problem with me using a pre-made colour palette for my graphics, do they?

Aint nobody here but us cactus

Cacti? Cactusses?

Oh, and some test physics objects. And the sun. And your impending doom!

Welcome to the Realistic Desert Survival Simulator! (Spoiler: you don’t survive)

Hour Five Progress Report

Well, a bit past five hours of me working, but I ran into a tiny memory leak I was trying to get rid of.

Anyways, now when you activate a tree it pauses the character movement, and lets you move the selection highlight around, only Cancel works so far though, which lets you resume playing and removes the menu.

Next is to add in some functions for interacting with objects, and making the menu call said functions.

End of Day One for me

Well, I’m rounding out the day here.  I’m surprised how well this is coming along for me (I had doubts)!  Here’s what’s going on so far:

So far it’s just a simple tile engine with some map transitions and tile-to-tile movement. I used TileStudio to make the tiles and maps and used the code generator to make (old style) Allegro code. Then I just gutted it for what was important to me (the map tile placement data) and went from there.  At nine hours in, I think I’m doing alright for myself.  Time to go get my six hours and then back to the grind :)

48 hours sure is great motivation !

So basically I just got up 2 hours ago, and I went onto Ludum Dare’s website and checked out the theme. I thought, “Alone? ..eh”, then I considered not doing it, but suddenly ideas began flowing through my head, and I settled with a pretty good one.

So my plan so far is:
1. Today, I’ll make a game engine.
2. Tomorrow, I turn it into an actual game.

But you never know, might end up finishing the engine today and begin on turning it into a game.

Right now I’ve got a background, a player and a cursor that selects things and that’s…basically it. What it’s gonna be used for you’ll find out later.

By the way, the thought of having to be one in two days actually motivates you to work really fast! (This is my first LD48 actually participating…)

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.

Well, I’ve made lots of progress…

So my game’s really starting to take shape, although at the moment it’s not really… a game. It’s ALL cutscenes currently, and I still haven’t thought of a way to add some user interaction. Suggestions? 😀 Anyway, here’s some screenies:

#gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 100%; } #gallery-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-1 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */ LD22Pic2

I’m a little behind because of time zones, and because I just lost about 30 minutes of spriting thanks to gimp crashing. Oh well, I’ll get there in the end :)

My first ever game!

I came up with an idea, which I will not post here because, quite simply, I want to get to coding. I forgot how to set up a project with the engine I’m using, Ogre3d.

I’ve never actually made a game before, or any form of useful application. Apparently doing it competitively in 48 hours isn’t the best starting environment. So far, all I’ve come up with is the idea!

A change of tools!

I’m in with a change of tools. I was originally going to use löve, but when I added hardon collision detection from tiles to my basecode, everything slowed to a crawl. It probably has to do with adding million small rectangles or something but it looks like that I’m going to use flixel again and save löve for next time when my basecode is mature enough to be used.

I Was Here

Booh! (yet NOT another apocalypse zombie game)

Hi there !

The name’s yosh… a french guy crazy enough to participate to this awesome LD challenge.
I’m currently working on a little browser game based on html5/javascript. It’s currently named “I Was Here” and it’ll be a concept (*kof kof*) platformer  game.
After many unachieved project, I started something less ambitious than usual, with both minmal gameplay and graphics. I just hope to “get the things done” for this time =]

Good luck to everyone!
