Customary Progress Update
Been at it for almost 7 hours now and I’m moderately pleased with the results. Here’s a screenshot for you (or you can check out my blog here).

It’s been many hours since Ludum Dare #22 started. To be honest, I was really hoping for teleportation.
So, just a recap, i’m doing a browser game using javascript/canvas. I want to do something darker than i’m used to.
This is where i’m at at the moment http://www.stickymill.com/alone/alone_v0.01.html

I know this sounds like a copout, but things have cropped up that prevent from going into the Compo (and even Jam) properly.
However, I might have a go at the theme, and the whole preparation and voting process has shown me the brilliant and free Audiotool and given me a great game idea 😉
So even if I don’t enter the Jam or the Compo this time round, thank you LD and those who commented on my posts for giving me ideas and tools to help me make better games. Here’s hoping I can do it next time round

I’m pretty happy with my progress for a change, looks like I will get a whole day to just focus on polish ^_^
Well, nothing special comes to my mind. I mean, I have some vague ideas, but yeah, I voted (-1) on “Alone” theme. Most good ideas are already being done by some of you guys.
This is going to be some kind of platformer, but I’m not sure yet. Learning Flixel on the fly is actually going pretty good, for now (its a very good framework for fast prototyping). I think besides Flixel Power Tools, I’ll be also using TweenMax (if I will be able to learn it, that is).
I’m quite certain I will run into trouble later, though. :]
You are some sort of solder and your plane crashed. You are the only one who got out alive, but dark creatures are approaching. Can you survive alone against the massive horde before help can arrive?
First screenshot of the game. You’re a guy stuck in a snowstorm. I’m trying to do this really quick this time since I have lots of non-LD things to take care of too. No levels, no complex mechanics, just something really simple. It’s a great challenge too to keep everything minimalistic, but still do something that isn’t completely void of value.
Hi fellow entrants
I’m feeling a little under the weather at the moment but that’s not going to stop me taking part! I have decided to go low-tech this time though, to make things a little easier for myself. So I’m planning to make a very simple command-line text adventure in plain old Python.
The theme is an awkward one, in my opinion, because it pretty much dictates a backstory rather than possible game mechanics, and all that springs to mind at first are artsy, depressing, story-based exploration affairs. I did manage to think further than that, so if like me you’re struggling for ideas a bit, how about these:
Anyway, my tools of choice are:
My goal this weekend is just to finish something, even if it totally sucks.
Added in some base actions you can do to all objects. They don’t actually do anything yet, but I can override them for other objects.. like this tree here.
Oh hey I also added in some basic stat values and they show up on the HUD and update now.
I think I’m going to add in a message system next.. then I should probably get started on setting up the inventory / item system.

Today, I spent a lot of time on my HUD (I’m not a graphic designer, and I think I cannot do better than that. So I hope it’s not too ugly…). My gameplay is also ready. Tomorrow, I have to fix the level design, and integrate the sound.
The concept is simple : you are in a spaceship and you have to follow radio instructions in order to go back home. However, actions consume energy and oxygen.
There are few surprises I keep for tomorrow =)
Second build.

Still placeholder sprites. Now theres some enemies, and you can cast spells. Im really tired right now, enough for the first night!
Controls: arrows move, X blocks, C attacks, D places bombs, hold S and release to cast a spell. hold it longer to cast different spells. Interrupt the casting with an action (attacking, placing a bomb, using the shield) to combine a spell with that action.
Tomorrow I make more enemies, make some more game mechanics, and start making the actual level. Then I start on the actual art!
Ugh; I have no idea what to do with this theme.
So I figured I’d just make a game and incorporate the theme into it halfway. I think the theme is broad enough to allow that.
At any rate, I’ve got some lighting done, as well as the HUD. Stylish lowres hearts and all that.

And all that in 4 hours time… well, onwards for great glory!, and such.
It took some time, but an idea is starting to form in my mind. It allows for quick iteration of features, so I can build the game first and then spend the rest of the competition enriching the gameplay. I intend to have the basic gameplay finished in a few hours. Things just got a bit more exciting!
As all ludum dares from #17, I will try to make something for this one as well. I know I am a bit late listing what I will use for development but it is the same stuff I used for previous ld:
Gonna try to make the game available for Android and PC using the lovely and useful LibGDX library.
Good luck to everyone.
Hi there !
Here we are, jamming like crazy ! We have an idea firmly in place, and the base code (movement, camera, first collision physics) is in place. So behold, our first screenshot, while I wait for the 3D assets from my friend who is working on the 3D stuff
Isn’t that placeholder tree magnificient ? 😀 Good luck everyone !
