6 Feet Under - Speedrun Contest

6fu.png

Are you SICK of having to walk or run places like in a lot of 2d platformers? Are you TIRED of jumping and climbing cliffs, blocks, and literally everything else? In 6 Feet Under you won't be doing any of this! Kevin, the zombiegirl, rises from her grave and is trying to make it home so she can finally rest - what better way to do so than by turning into a drill?

If you haven't played this game so far, feel free to give it a try! We're always looking for more feedback and input on our entry.

If you HAVE played this game (and even if you haven't, actually) I'd like to announce our very first speedrun contest for 6 Feet Under. All you have to do is submit a youtube video as a comment on our game right here or on our itch.io page.

The rules are simple; too: - Play on our post-jam version. - Press F2 to toggle the speedrun timer. - Upload a video including the "Start"-press all the way to the end-screen - while having the speedrun timer run on the top left - on youtube - Share the video with us either as a comment on our game, either on LD or on itch.io, or hit me up on discord Kepsert#2230

This competition will run from the moment this blog post goes live till Sunday the 9th of May, 11pm, British time (midnight central European time, 6pm Eastern). Any run submissions after that deadline will not be valid for the competition.

But there's more!

I'll be sending out invites to 4 people (starting at the best times) to compete in a short single elimination tournament that will be livestreamed on Twitch, with a ~~potential~~ small prize pool as an incentive.

1st place: €20 Steam gift card.

2nd place: €10 Steam gift card.

3rd place: €5 Steam gift card.

Booby prize if you're among the top 4 but can't make it to the live races!

Grab our game and start drilling, y'all! We're looking forward to learning about your favorite speedrun strategies! LET'S GO!

A manual leaderboard will be added to both our itch and LD game descriptions.

And deeper goes the keeper

LIVE Streaming LD48 Games and Giving Feedback

As with previous years, I'll be streaming LD games and giving feedback on stream over at:

https://www.twitch.tv/honestdangames for about 3 hours today.

I only play entries if the developer is in chat. If a game is called but no developer is in chat to respond within 60 seconds, the game is removed from queue. This may sound harsh but it rewards those who are actually present, and ensures I get through games pretty quick. It also means those waiting in line do not need to worry about people who missed their game coming back later and jumping back in line ahead of them.

  • The !submit command will link the form to submit your game
  • The !queue command will link the spreadsheet with the current queue along with my rules

Old Man Toadadiah, a wonderful character from our entry Freg, Fregg & Freggy, hopes to see you there!

Swing Shroom is now available to download!

Swing Shroom is now available to download on Windows and Mac! Huge thank you to everyone who's enjoyed it so far and given us feedback. We're hard at work on a post-jam definitive version of Swing Shroom with improved level design, bugfixes, redesigned rope physics and, last but not least, checkpoints! You can stay updated on our progress through our twitter -> Quite Good Games . Peace out!

A Fart, a Hailstorm and a Yelp...

What do a fart, a hailstorm, and a yelp have in common? All three are needed for the perfect fireball sound.

I (clearly) really enjoyed making the music and SFX for our first ever LD entry, INFERNO DOMINUS!

Is it prohibited to update game after develop time?

Maybe it is said in rules but I cant find. Is it prohibited to update game after develop time? My game had some bugs which have been fixed but then I thought that I maybe mustn't do that because after that my game stop being "made in 48 hours".

Funny Bugs and Post-Jam Jupiter II

At some point, the mysterious bugs and great ideas from feedback I've gotten for Jupiter II caused me to roll a post-jam version. This version includes very important content such as a 100% aesthetic diving cable which took hours to get to look right.

You can find links to the post-jam version (both for Windows and HTML5) on the Jupiter II Ludum Dare Page.

The Case of the Frozen Fishsticks Solved

One of the major bug mysterious that was solved was the case of the fish and jellyfish seemingly spawning inside the ice walls. I double and triple-checked my math and code, and by all accounts it shouldn't have been happening.

Well, it actually wasn't happening, the spawn code was working just fine. What was happening, however, was my digital animals apparently trying to escape the matrix. I finally decided to increase the resolution and zoom the camera way out to actually watch the spawning happening (something I should have tried during development) and I witnessed what was going on.

The game spawns the tunnel below the player in chunks as you go deeper, and erases chunks and entities that are above you. Creatures are spawned in along with the chunks inside the new section of tunnel. The problem was that creatures are active as soon as they spawn, swimming around and whatnot even before the player is close. I finally saw that the little buggers would sometimes swim out the bottom of their chunk into the void where a future chunk would spawn, but there was none there yet. Then, when the player reached a certain point, a new chunk would spawn, and any fishes out in the void where there used to be no chunk all the sudden had a wall pop into existence on top of them.

In the end, the code was working just fine, I just hadn't considered the subtle implications of everything that was going on. I'm happy to have finally tracked this bug down, even if it was post-jam. I thought it was pretty funny and wanted to share.

[FR] I'll review some games on stream tonight

:flag_gb: Post name is quite explicit. Stream will be in french so if you don't understand french, you won't get the feedback and stream will lack in interest. I might do one in english some other day though but today should be french only.

:flag_fr: Je vais tester vos jeux en live à 21h30 (UTC +2, ~45 minutes après ce post). L'idée est de vous apporter un retour le plus complet possible pour apporter une critique constructive.

Envoyez moi vos jeux ici : https://forms.gle/cUUv8LNXkkPiBx3p7

Rendez-vous sur Twitch à 21h30.

Hellevator Operator

"Join me in telling the tale of the Hellevator Operator, delivering lost souls between the circles of hell."

Hellevator Operator is a deep game that chronicles a journey into the literal depths of hell. It is a complex tale that—among other things—explores themes of Greed, Anger and Treachery. Its deep and layered presentation may appear cryptic at times, but if you pay close attention it will all fall into place at the very end…
