I'm in !
Good luck to all !

Hi! It's been a long journey, but I'm finally close to releasing my LD38 game formerly named "Zen Demiurgy"!
Zen World is a strategy game that can be as relaxing as you want it to be. Build a calm and colorful landscape with hexagonal tiles, matching their borders to each other, collect valuable boxes, and explore the tech tree.
Check it out on Steam, and don't forget to wishlist, it means a lot to me! Thank you!
What an anniversary to make that announcement, also. It's been 10 LD's already!
I’m wondering, what’s the best engine/framework to use? If necessary, languages I know are C#, Scratch (kind of a joke), JS, python (barely, but I can walk myself through it), and Brainfrick (kinda unnecessary). Really, I only know Scratch well (I’ve used it for 4 years now because I used to think that “text based programming is inferior and I may never do it”), but I can read up on docs if I need to. I know about stuff like Unity, Unreal, Stencyl (but not in a million years), Godot, GameSalad, Monogame, Cocos2D, and... Pygame. But I don’t know what to use for this Game Jam! I’m a noob to all of these engines, and while I don’t intend to win, I want to know what will be either the least time consuming or most effective. Oh yeah, another thing I can do is barebones C# text adventures in VS, but I do NOT want to do that. Did I ramble?

joining a team to do game in a fast pace is thrilling jam.. so keep on returning back to the LDJAM.. Most of the time had chosen a bigger design and had to be 72hrs version. Well when you are in a jam and the artist says 3d had to learn and do that programming..
With lot of good game engines now, it is pretty fast one can jump in to develop games now. Still it is good to take a framework and work over it to make a game.
Most time used the jam to learn a new topic/area in game development. Being programmer game jams helped to learn art and tech art.Cant say become an artist now but can do the basic necessary dummy art for the game. One time learnt art in blender, other time learnt the shaders in unity
And sometime not able to finish or struck up in the middle with a problem which took more time or real world issues lead to not completing /submitting the game. Based on the confidence from the game jams able to try my indie game dev journey and released small games in mobile.
Mostly this time going with WebGL version of game targeting the browser. and fully free and open source tools
I'm in, dudes.
This is my first Ludum Dare, and my first time trying to complete a game in Unity. I'm pretty nervous about not being able to reach that finish line, but I'm exited to get started!
Good luck everyone!
Or so I hope :fingers_crossed:

One more time with (almost) no engine again. I spent a few months to chill after LD47 and another few on rewriting my engine/framework from scratch and lots of copypasta.
Less anxious now, but the code is a raging spaghetti fire. Every refactoring and major feature is on hold until I get 20 rates on this jam.
I'm in again for the compo.
According to the stats I'm past my prime and on the decline, but who cares? I still have fun!

I'll use my usual engine, Unity, with some basic starter code that makes it a bit more convenient to play sounds and do scene transitions, or pull items at random from a list, and other things that seem to repeat in many jams.
I'll probably do pixel art with aseprite this time, though I consider inkscape vector art and blender in my arsenal.
The new tool I might use this time is FL Studio, I've practiced with it a little, and if I'm feeling in control I might attempt music as a stretch goal. Never done it before but recently I've been wanting to try.
For sound effects, I'll either synthesize some in one of the synths from FL studio, or else record foley and process in audacity.
Good luck to everyone, and have fun!
It's been a 1.5 years since I've finished an LD game. The life has been busy. But I'm back!
This time not only I'll use a custom engine (which is usual), but I'll also be friggin cross-compiling from linux. Hope everything goes well.
Hey guys, this is the first time for me to participate in a jam. Probably going to use unity+aseprite+garage band. I am quite excited yet nervous, wish everyone luck on their games!
This is my first Ludum Dare, first attempt at finishing a game, first game even. Ive dabbled with Unity, Godot, Haxe, and many others in the past, but I usually never get past a few hours of dev and fiddling.
Going to attempt something small but finished for the first time.
I am just getting indecisive about which tools to use. I have Unity Pro through work, I have Godot, LOVE, Haxe, Raylib (raylib-go specifically) and all the many others setup. And I don't know which to use. For me the visual method of using Unity or Godot has never fully gelled, I always get stuck fiddling with UI nonsense, addons, assets and settings than making a game. And as a programmer, choosing a language/framework is a never ending battle of choices and comfort.
Hopefully I find something comfortable, so I can focus on making of the game and not playing bingo with tooling.
When I participate, I usually take part in the Jam, but this time I'm going to try to finish the Compo portion. I get my second Pfizer COVID-19 booster tomorrow so hopefully that doesn't completely take me out of the competition 🤞 (I've heard it can be pretty rough and the first round made me really sleepy for a few days).
Honestly, all the themes seem pretty cool, and most of them seem pretty open enough to not be too restrictive. I'm personally hoping for either Parasite or Generations, but I really think any of them would be pretty fun to design for.
As far as tools go, I'm fairly sure I'll end up using either Unity or Game Maker Studio 2, but I haven't fully decided. I'm leaning more towards Unity at the moment. I tend to do all my work in 2D so I'll be using Aseprite for sprites and animations as well as any tilesets (excited to try out the new tile support the Aseprite team has added). For sound effects, I'll probably make use of BFXR mostly. For music, I'll be using my synthesizers and recording music with Garage Band.
My first LD was LD34, so this should not be very hard, they say.
But I've had missed a couple of times and most of the times I can only find inspiration on day 2. It's always hard.
Let's hope I can finish a game this weekend!
I hope you all get a game finished too! Good Luck!
After 4 years of "importants" thing to do like study or earn money, I can finaly participate to LD for the second times. Unfortunately, due to a lack of time, I'll join the jam and not the compo, but that will not stop me from create every code and every assets during the jam time.
Here's the softwares that I'll use:
Good luck to everyone and have fun!
Once again taking part in the compo and I'll do my best regardless of the theme. Going to go 3D using the FTE Quakeworld engine with other tools including Blender, GIMP, Audacity, SunVox, NetRadiant. These tools have never let me down when it comes to making cool polished games real quick.
