Its Dark in 10 seconds

This is the first time I have ever done a jam like this, but my game is coming together nicely. DarkIn10sec.gif

Sadly, I must withdraw

sad to announce guys I wont be finishing 😦 I've picked up a tummy bug somehow. It is hard to program when you have to rush to the smallest room in your house every half hour.

bitterly disappointed as I am genuinely proud of what I have managed to do so far in so little time. I'll carry on developing this game and release it to the world at some later point - both in its 'ideal' and 'intended' LD form and later on as a shortish and properly thought out game.

[Devlog] Using my custom engine yet again

LD48 was amazing I used my own custom engine Fireworks Engine to build a very stupid game called One for an Era, I was adding features to my engine until the last few minutes of the submission and finally it was done! I was very happy to put something out.

From then last 2 years have been a roller coasted I started working on a much bigger engine with a lot of features, thought it is far from complete I think I might be able to make something out of it as well this time, something very small. This time I have a editor and a decent deferred rendering pipeline and some lua scripting as well (no physics though). let's see what lies ahead. Btw this is my new Engine Razix.

IDK what I will be making yet or how good it will be. Since I will have to add new features as well, I think I will participate in the Extra format and once I decide on the game idea I will work on refining and adding necessary features for my engine until 18th and make the game in 48 hours at the end of LD51 (might stream it then not sure).

Until then let the ride begin!!!! I will keep you guys updated on my engine and game idea.

Here's a small demo of Razix RazixemeditoDemo/emForward.png

It's coming together!

I'm finally done with the art! I'm making a platformer where the season changes every 10 seconds. The effects of each season can open up new paths or force you to go a different way.

Ludum Dare - international flight version

I got married was yesterday which made it difficult to do Ludum Dare this time... But we leave for the honeymoon in a few minutes and I'm planning on making a game during our flight on the plane, starting now! Let's see how this goes haha

Not gonna sleep tonight

LD51-0.PNG Not sure if I will ever get this finished in time. A lot on this screen shot are not working and there are a lot I am trying to add... I wish I can get something playable even I have to cut half of the features I planned.

Plan Successfulish!

I decided I wanted a free Sunday, so I planned on knocking this compo out by Saturday night. Technically its a little Sunday for me now, but its close enough for me. I call it a great success. Hope yall are having success as well.

Game is pretty simple, and I gave up on music, but the SFX are nice, and I think its actually fun. Might have ripped off much of the idea from an app I used to have called "Mr. Oops" but it isn't on the store anymore :(

disp.png

Its called Shimash, a sort of pun on the Chinese character 十, which means 10, and the word "smash". I guess it'd be pronounced "Shmash". I stuck to 8 colors for the whole game, which I think gives it a nice cohesive look. Not an artist.

Solving the Narative Paradox in a hypertext game

EC36944A-5287-44B7-8585-A121F1A8B0B5.PNG

I'm an university lecturer, and we decided to have this Ludum Dare as a first project for our students. Hello if anyone ;) Meanwhile i decided to participate myself with some mechanics i was flirting in my mind with for a while.

I had two goals : 1. To resolve the Narative Paradox for this particular interactive novella 2. The text needs to be mostly generated by the user actions and reduce the authoring as much as possible.

Narative Paradox

“pre-authored plot structure conflicts with the freedom of action and interaction characteristics of the medium of real-time interactive graphical environment” (Aylett & Louchart, 2007)

First i created this finite state machine for the game flaw: Диаграмма без названия.drawio.png The second step i chose the node where the content can be automatically generated. The third step was to hide some choices until the personaje will have enough "experience" to see them.

I chose to use two skills for this :
* Combat Experience * Empathy

And finally, i used a AI text generator to do the heavy lifting on authoring. I spend less than 7 hours to finalise the project, and even if it's a POC, i'm quite satisfied with the results 4.png You can try and tell me what i can change more in order to achieve a better fit for my goals.

Thank you for your attention.

Day 2.. Progress is finally being made..

I had forgotten why I really hated using Emscripten with C++ for LD51 and just thought it would be practical, you know, with the whole new embedding thing.. I can't get debugging to work so all the debugging has to be done using printf statements... Talk about severely slowing my progress to a crawl.. But some silliness has prevailed

Time to dance ! \o/

I finally succeeded in combining the power of the QR code with the power of the beat, I will finally be able to attack the gameplay ლ(╹◡╹ლ)
