Gonna play some games today!

Hi all,

Haven't had time to play any games yet since the jam. Drop your game in the comments as well as any gems you've already found and I will play them later today.

Also, you can give our game a try.

Web now available on our game!

This is my second time attending LD and I had so much fun last time. I fell into coma yesterday after the long marathon...

After getting that 12-hour nice sleep, I woke up devastated to find in the comment that the upload link was not working... So we fixed it and upload a web version just in case :)) https://catzp.itch.io/inside-creatures-out

Please come try our game and leave a comment on what you think!! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/56/inside-creatures-out-what-is-your-gaming-mbti

The Red Beetle Squad -> Why Asynchronous Multiplayer?

LDJam_CoverImage.png

During a game jam, you're always racing against the clock ⏳, and we knew we wanted to create something that brought players together. But here's the catch: we didn't want players to have to wait for others to be online at the same time. That's why we went with asynchronous multiplayer! 👾

It lets you cooperate with other players without needing to sync up in real-time. You can leave a trail, set up clues 🪧, and when you come back, maybe someone else has already found the beetle 🐞! It's like a community hunt, but you can jump in whenever you want.

We hope this adds a sense of connection, even when you're playing solo! 💡

Screen sizing of embedded games

First of all, loving the games.

But, and maybe this has been pointed out already, on chrome almost all of the embedded games are getting their edges cut off. If I kill the sidebar everything works fine.

I have this in stylebot now:

.sidebar { display: none }

I know, I know. Now I can't see the countdown. I'd rather have access to the games :). I don't have time to figure out the proper way to get things sized right, CSS isn't my strong suit. Let me know if y'all have found something better.

Web version available! (but not on LD website >< )

Hey there!

I hope all the teams are doing well! We've managed to get Tiny Rescue playable on web, but alas, the web version on the LD website refuses to launch. There seems to be a problem with embedding and Godot... :cold_sweat:

I have a feeling that this is the case with quite a few submissions, as I've come across other LD games where Unity games refused to launch (booooo!).

Anyway, our little game can happily be tested on itch.io at this url

We look forward to improve it with your feedbacks! Thanks in advance

What's more, 5 new chapters are waiting to be written (yes, I know, it's my part of work...! ) and we'd really like you to meet dear Chubby Cheeks, so we're looking forward to getting back to development very soon!

So long, ludum darers! * -flies with arms- *

Scrapped Animations/Ideas

Separader.png

As to be expected of such a short timespan for a project, we initially over-scoped our project and had to scrap ideas or repurpose them in some way. It's a natural part of experimenting and figuring out what works, but we'd like to share some stuff that didn't make the final cut in our game, Horseless Headman!

Slashing Animation: 6runslash.gif

While trying to flesh out the core gameplay feel, we tried to have the user slash with the cursor and the character would perform a slashing animation in response. But it felt really strange to have the character do that when it's all the way on the other side of the screen. It took some experimenting and happy accidents to settle on the idea of the character throwing the horse like a steely boomerang at the enemies.

This also meant we had to make a horseless version of all the other sprites, but that's kinda the name of the game isn't it? lol

Dead Horse: 1deadhorse.png
It's implied that the horse has a will of its own, and we like to convey that thru subtle expressions in the face, particularly in the ending. We also had a dead sprite of the horse, but because of time constraints it didn't make it in the end. But there's no use beating a dead horse~

Old run cycle: 4horse.gif
The main character went through some subtle changes as we were testing things out. This was an early sprite to test formatting of animations! It used to have a cravat and white shoes, but both were hurting readability when the majority of the backgrounds were pale white as well. We made the shoes red and kept the body area simple so players can easily see where the character is even in their peripherals.

Hope you enjoyed reading!

Just a joke with myself, i want to know how far i can go with that concept .
I already began to clean my code, and I have many ideas to improve it.

But for now I will try your games, can't wait to see what you have done!

17th LDjam

IMG_1905.png

This is my 17th LDjam and 14th as a team. After a few years of pause we finally got together this weekend in my basement and made a game called Juicy rollers.

One of our friends finally joined us and made a few tunes and sound effects. And late Saturday night an old colleague helped us out with graphic ideas. Now we are looking forward for the next LDjam in April :)

The game can be played at Juicy rollers
