DONE 100%

Obliterate the City

Finally done. My first Ludum Dare entry. Me and two of my friends locked ourselves into my apartment for the weekend to work on our separate LD compo entries. Sadly one had to call quits earlier this evening because his tools failed him, and the other guy is still deadlining as I write. I however just submitted my entry an hour before the deadline.

Hope people will like it. Had plenty of fun making it :)

Not Quite There

After a hard push in the last few hours I’m sad to say that I won’t be able to finish in time to submit.

This is the first time I have entered Ludum and I went into this to see what I could really do in a short space of time. Even though I didn’t quite make it this time I have learned so much and I’m sure the experience will be extremely valuable in getting projects completed in the future.

Good luck to everyone who have finished and especially to those who are still working!

Thanks.

p.s. Tomorrow I will post a build of what I have managed to make.

Going to do a mock up of the menu screen then adds sounds tomorrow!

Last update for today. Can’t wait to play all these games!

That’s awesome that you had the exact same idea as I did. My weekend was unfortunately too busy with RL to participate. I really look forward to trying your submission 😀

It’s jam time

Sound trails

As predicted, I am not finished in time for the compo, and doubt I can get there during the grace period either. Spent most of those last two hours figuring out how to properly animate sound trails for my hero.

He can also see the villanous monster (if there’s nothing in the way and he’s facing the right direction) and react by printing “saw you!” to the Javascript console. Unfortunately, I don’t think this serves adequately as AI, plus I need to add a way to let the player and hero defeat each other as well.

Let’s hope I don’t run into any more technical issues and can get it all done in 24 hours!

Delve Deeply is finished!

Delve Deeply! (not a tower defense)

Well, it turns out I didn’t get any towers or anything implemented, but I did get my ambitious A* pathing algorithm finished!  Take a look at my submission here.

You start the game with some cash and a house.  You have the ability to mold the landscape by buying tiles, and you can spawn zombies that path toward the target location you can set by pressing X.  Zombies are damaged by spikes, and you get money for killing them.

I hope you have fun playing around with this.  It’s not a deep game by any means, but it looks like a good base to start something cool off of.

Special thanks to vanZeben for his video tutorials here that started me off with the 2D engine.

Submitted, now my head hurts.

DM’s Rule is now in. After a combined ~6 hours working on an AI bug, where I had to trash and redo it, and I got to spend another good 2 hours on that, it turns out that I forgot to replace an X with an Y… so yeah. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth because I couldn’t put in all the things I wanted to put in. Oh well I guess. I thought about trashing this game and making a new one, “My last game made me so upset so I decided to punch some kittens/goats” But I stuck with this one instead.

Finished game!

So I managed to finish myself a game for this Ludum Dare, which must mean that I’m more of a villain than an evolutionalist (Considering I fell ill the last LD).

You all better test my little world domination simulator now, or as I’ve lovingly nicknamed it: “MiLWaDS”

If you don’t have windows then I’ve heard it works well in wine, and I might have a possible linux build coming of it.

Timelapse will be put up as soon as it finishes uploading, and then you’ll be free to observe me sleeping half the time away.

It kills me to say so, but I’ll post my entry in the Jam tomorrow night

Good luck all !

And its done

WOo fixed a ton of bugs. Works completely now on Android. I’m still running into some Heap corruption errors. Not the best code I’ve ever written. A Villainous Victory

The night draws to a close, and what a weekend… construction of the laboratory was bang on schedule, and with a well oiled machine the pieces snapped into place. The final few hours really were worth the effort, bringing a mere scientific simulation into a fully realised story driven game.

A fuller, juicier Post Mortem will follow, but right now, all I can say is… I love Haxe NME… not only did it make writing and producing the game a joy, but with minimal effort I got the Android and Windows/Desktop versions built and online. Its a joy to be able to make a game, and then share it so freely.

Merry Ludum everyone!

Test Subject Gamma – You are the Villain – Release R1

A Villain’s Demise

So its over again, at last. These hours just fly away! Its been an awesome weekend, and as always I’m looking forward to the next LD already. But hey, check out my entry!

mainSS

Basically you control a villain, which is.. overpowered by an even greater villain. In free-fall you have to struggle to stay alive! The original idea was to include a boss element, but that had to be put aside in order to complete it.

ss2

It ended up with a cool little endless platformer. You have to time your jumps, utilize the double-jump cleverly, and take advantage of a certain time-altering ability as you collect points, health and other pickups. All this while you’re dodging bullets and super-deadly razorblades emerging all over!

ss3

This time i clocked in 16 hours of development, and i even managed to create a timelapse video! The video will be uploaded shortly, but for now – play the game! Can you achieve a score above 1500?

So there we go!

All wrapped up nicely. I would have submitted earlier but I was trying to get my time lapse published, but it’s not happening right now.

I’m really happy about what I managed to achieve.

Firstly I’m happy because the game is complete and fun to plan.

Secondly I managed to try out new techniques like pixel art and particle emitters in Flashpunk.

Lastly I was amazed at how smoothly it went. I’m not sure whether it was just because of the limited scope of the game, or that what I was doing was just easier for some reason; it just felt great to participate in this competition making this game.

So a great big thanks to all the LD Admins, the developers / judges and the community at large for hosting a great competition!

… Now vote for my game!!!!! (whilst I go and sleep)

Escape Goat Submitted

Give Mr. Snugglebutt Some Luvin’

PetMrSnugglebutt

With all the villainous acts you’ve performed, its time to give a little attention to your favorite minion: Mr. Snugglebutt.  Nevermind that the entire British Secret Intelligence Service has broken into your secret hideout.  A mastermind must have his priorities in order.

Entry PageWeb | Windows | Source

  • Pet the irresistibly adorable Mr. Snugglebutt
  • Drop an endless supply of secret service members down to your dungeon.
  • Coo or cackle – the choice is yours!

Pet Mr. Snugglebutt was made by JoeProgram in less than 48 hours for the Ludum Dare Competition #25.

Done and Done

It’s 2:45 am, I have exam at 9:00 am and I am just finished with my ludum dare 25. In this post I would like to summarize what went well and what went wrong.

What went well:

  • Lisp – great language, easy to work with in emacs, fast testing
  • Ecl – great lisp compiler, compiles to c and then directly to the machine code
  • Theme – fun to work with

What went wrong:

  • Windows – I spent 5 hours getting mingw running, compiling ecl and my game under it
  • No sounds / music – I can’t make anything decent, especially at such short notice

All in all, it was awesome fun. I hope you will enjoy my little game of strategy and evil.

Dungeon Inc.

In this game, you play recently graduated devil who has been entrusted with controlling a dungeon. Beware, heroes will come and ransack it, so guard it with monsters well.

This is how it looks.

I am glad I managed to finish it in time. Phew. Feels good.

OMG, you did all that in lisp? You deserve a medal!

Thanks! Contrary to what everyone would think, lisp is great language for programming. Rapid prototyping and testing new features without even closing the game was something that was ideal for making a game.

Nevermind, I just downloaded your source and I am currently looking at how you did it. Just one other question, why ECL over picolisp or even minipicolisp? They are much smaller, although not full CL compliant Lisps. Great work!
14. Jan 2013 · 00:20 UTC
Well, I mainly sticked with ecl because I wanted to use it inside another c++ project. Since then on, I kinda stuck with it. It has great ansi compliance, but also includes very good additional stuff, like gray streams (clos streams). It was also nifty easy to set up with emacs.

Finally!

Well, I finally finished.  I didn’t get a chance to work on this at all yesterday, so I had to do it all this afternoon.  The end result is not pretty, but it’s at least functional.

You are the nefarious Dr. Grigori, and you’ve captured the famous secret agent Mr. Bont.  You’ve just finished explaining your plot to take over the world and set up his slow, gruesome death when his buddies break in with tools to shut down the power to your machine.  Luckily, you have a jetpack and a laser gun.
Play it here!

You might have some questions.  Why don’t the good guys just shoot you?  Why don’t you just shoot Mr. Bont?  Where am I?  I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know!

Who let the reindeer out?

My entry for this challenge has been submitted. The entry page is http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-25/?action=preview&uid=15656. While it was a fairly simple game it still took me longer  than I thought it would so I didn’t have as much time for polishing as I would have liked. The goal is to chase as many reindeer out of Santa’s corral before the time runs out.
