Fail at game jam? No problem, down your Listerine!

Distraction…

My new Canon 70-200 2.8 IS lens just arrived today, this could become a major distraction for me during the weekend.

I feel for you man, I finally got around to buying a copy of Brawl earlier this week, and I’ve finally got Wine working on Ubuntu…

Ludum Dare!

Last time we were together, I made a game called Rails with Jake Wiesen for the Jam. Jake is busy slaying replicants or whatever, so this time it’s just you and me, entering the competition for the first time.

Tools

Programming: Game Maker

Art: Game Maker Sprite Editor

Music: Roland Fantom X8

Sound: BFXR

Alright, good luck everyone! Super excited to be participating in the competition for the first time, and even more excited to see a bunch of new games and new game designers!

Internet is crashing..

I moved into a new place and got internet installed.   It doesn’t work so well.  The brand new router they installed over-heats and smells like burnt silicone.  The upstream is extremely intermittent.  Every hour or so I have to switch the cables if I want net access.

Suese's Internet is broken

Looks like I’ll be doing this with limited internet access this time.

I’m In!

Almost forgot to say I’m in! So uh, yeah, I’m trying a bit of a different setup this time, lets hope it doesn’t screw me up…

Tools used:

Laptop using Ubuntu 13.04

Eclipse SDK (using Java)

LWJGL (for OpenGL, I found out the hard way that Ubuntu doesn’t seem to like the vanilla Java drawing

I may also be using the platformer engine I’m working on, so if that happens, I’ll enter the Jam instead of the Compo this time. Here’s hoping my game will run on Linux this time (mostly because it’ll HAVE to…).

Hello!

I’ve been observing Ludum Dare for a while, but this weekend is going to be my first go at taking part myself. I can’t really spare the entire weekend, but I’ll do my best and hopefully have a lot of fun along the way.

I will be using the following setup:
Unity 4.2 with 2D Toolkit
Wings 3D
Paint.net
Audacity

… and possibly an extra app or two for sounds and art.

Good luck to all you jammers, can’t wait to see your games!

I’m in!

This will be my second Ludum Dare. Unlike my first entry, I will be competing in the 48 hour Compo event although I may disqualify myself into the Jam event depending on the theme 😛

I will be using Multimedia Fusion 2 to develop the game, Sprite Something and Paint.Net for graphics, and audio will be done with sfxr and a host of apps like nanostudio, imaschine, etc.

My game last time was Gawdamn Aliens! it ranked #71 in Humor, #167 in Fun, and #367 Overall.

No idea yet what game I’ll be making this time, but I’m liking the themes I see*!

*unless one of the bad ones wins 😉

I’m in for the Second Time.

So yeah, should be fun. The themes this time are definitely a lot more interesting than the last. But again will probably met with the same moans and groans when it’s actually announced.

Also my setup:

And my tools:

-Unity3d (Javascript/Unityscript)

-Autodesk Softimage XSI

-Adobe Photoshop

-BFXR

I’m also participating in the game jam with my girlfriend who is doing the art for the jam submission; Roseninja. So I’m doing the Compo for 48 Hours then quickly programming my girlfriend’s idea for the remaining 24 of the Jam.

I’ll also be streaming as usual: www.twitch.tv/jellycakes1

See you all on the other side.

I are in!

Hello fellow Ludumdarians, both veterans and newbies alike!

Me and a workmate decided we’re gonna participate in Ludumdares and this is the second we’re participating together (apart).

My setup is simple:
Language: C++
IDE: Eclipse CDT
Engine: My own.

For my engine/base code I grabbed code from my libraries and threw it all in one spot that I’m sharing with the world here:
https://bitbucket.org/spliter/ludumdaregame/src

Yes, that is a 1.5 mb codebase (including .dll though) for a ludumdare game, and it contains a lot of code that will most likely be useless, but I didn’t really have had time to clean it up.

Either way: Have fun, and learn because that’s what LudumDare is all about!

Hello LD27

I am pretty much unprepared and don’t have my usual resources as LD managed to hit my vacation time yet again :). But this time I have my usual tools and am eager to create something interesting..

Probably going to reuse some base code from both of my previous entries.

Also:
Language/IDE: QtCreator with MSVC compiler
Frameworks (depending on what I need): SDL2, OpenGL, Portaudio, Awesomium
Tools: sfxr, atrk, GIMP

LD 27 – Beginning

Here’s the first post in my LD27 project. I’m going to be working in 2d for this game, using Unity with 2d Toolkit and 2d Collider Gen. I’m hoping to grab an idea or mechanic early and bring it to some interesting place within the first day. I’d like to spend about a day doing art and sound design so the end product will be somewhat simple but hopefully very cohesive.

In, etc.

Hi all,

2nd LD here.  Had a lot of fun last time.

Tools:

Javascript and Lime.js

Photoshop

Goldwave

FYI, we are open hosting at the Ithaca Generator in Ithaca, NY – 116 W Green St. – down the alley past the candy shop.  Drop on in!

And…… I’m In

So this is my second Ludum Dare (Third if you count a 4 hour entry).  I’m i’m keeping it short, here’s what I’m using:

  • VS2010
  • XNA
  • My Framework that adds stuff to XNA
  • Photoshop

In for LD#27

I am in for Ludum Dare #27

I’ll use C++

Software: Vs.net 2008, blender, audacity, sunvox, sfxr, bfxr, the gimp 2.0, paint.net

I will use SDL and OpenGL

I have a light framework built from LD#26 ( http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=16392  )

that can be seen at https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B7GcUQ-vqs2DcUluYUdGMjVUR2c/edit?usp=sharing

Can’t… stay… awake…

Well, i am off to a great start,

i can’t keep my eyes open (’tis almost 2 a.m. here) and it seems like everybody already got a headstart by makeing some boilerplate scaffold for their game in advance that they then just publish to comply with the rules.

I knew you can do that, but i wanted to have a completely open mind and clean slate and not just have an idea in my head before i know the theme, as a lot of ppl just make the game they want to make and then just adapt it a tiny bit to the theme, if at all.

Maybe i took that idea a bit too far, but, what the hell, who knows.

I wanted to see the theme before going to bed to use my unconsciousness during sleep to give me some great ideas, hehe. But looks like thats not going to happen…

At least i know which JS engines i will use, PIXI.js and/or melon.JS. For the sound i will just use one of the several tools presented on the tools page.

So,

LETS GO

… to bed :)

my coursiosity is prbly gonna wake me up anyhow.

gl&hf to everybody starting at the beginning, i begin at the end

I’ve been trying to get these rules changed for a couple years. I don’t like how one can basically write a game before-hand and then plop in theme-adhering assets. It’s hard though, since everyone uses a different environment, to say what a ‘clean slate’ is.

I start clean everytime. I thought about making a simple lib based on the code from my last games, but I changed my mind. However, I find it cool to be able to use your own code beforehand, because then the quality of the games are better overall. Anyway, good luck and don’t stress to much about those details hehe!

I’m in!

So, Gonna be my first time entering Ludum Dare, and probably my first time ever attempting to make a full blown game in Unity (or ever, if a sandbox rpg in Game Maker doesn’t count) but who knows?

I’ll be using:

Unity3d (UnityScript)

Blender

G.I.M.P or Paint.net

Bfxr

Good luck to everyone!

Ah, I’m in!!

I’m getting really excited for my third Ludum Dare, but I don’t know if I’m ready yet!

Well, only sleep will tell. I will only know the theme 9 hours after it’s release, but I really need some sleep first… Good luck everyone!

Progress report.

I think i’ve done fairly well these first couple of hours. Tackled lots of the core components down and need to finish level loading so I can finish jumping. After that will be AI’s, Graphics, Sound and the levels themselves. Not that much to go in reality!
