My first game in C#!

Hey guys, today I’ve finally finished my first game. Yes, it is a console application kind of game, but I am very happy and excited to release it. Also I would like to hear your thoughts on it. Please keep in mind, that this is my first game ever, so it might suck. But I would like to see what you think anyway :) (Btw. it’s written in C#). Here are some screenshots of it:

So yeah, that’s pretty much it. I hope you’ll enjoy :) I will also participate in the Ludum Dare competition. Just in case you guys want to know. So yeah, peace out :)

Download the game here: Here!

IIIIIIIIN!!!!

I’m doing the Ludum Dare (As the title suggests). This time I will be making a 2D remake of (the classic) Ace of Spades. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to work in online multiplayer mode or anything, but there definitely will be a local multiplayer (as in two people using the same keyboard). I have just now prepared a sprite-sheet for the players :

aceofclubs_players

(It’s incredibly small, but that’s the look I’m going for.)

I’m calling it Ace of Clubs (See what I did there?) and it will probably be made in Blitz Max.

Dungeon Souls (or how i learned to cheat death)

Love those sprites!

First day passed

Okay, today I focused on gameplay and graphics as probably anyone who develop. I used a bash script to take screenshots every 20 seconds, which I will use to make a timelapse video. For now I have about 750 PNGs. 750/3 = 250 minutes = over 4 hours. I decided the game to be more Bezerk-like (which will not actually be a demake).

So, Windowses are here normal robots which actually can’t be destroyed, but can be paralyzed for some time. Apple is of course “the Evil Otto”.

First MiniLD!

screen2

This is my first MiniLD and my first LD of any sort. I wanted to enter the big one coming up so I thought I would do this as it would be good practice.

Craptain’s Log I : Guns and the shooting of them

aceofclubs_screeny2

Ace of Clubs is currently going smoothly. I have a platform character that’s animated and fires weapons. There are about 3 weapons, though their only difference right now is firing speed and quantity (e.g. the shotgun fires 3 bullets). Once I remap the controls to fit a more two-players-one-keyboard style I’ll go on to placing and destroying blocks. But yeah, I’ve got the original game’s weapons implemented. Also, I’ve had that one creepy boss theme from Sonic CD stuck in my head *shudder*.

Team at the TinkerMill joining the MiniLudum Dare

Hey all, we are excited to announce our team joining the constructive chaos of this month’s mini-Ludum Dare.  We are going to re-imagine the Fallout universe in a very, very retro way!  It’s going to be a lot of fun!

After the last “ONE” in LD 28, now we’ll also participating in MiniLD 50

After lots and lots of battle to determine what game we make in this game and countless souls fallen to the battle, we finally determine what game we’ll make.

The idea is to make a simplified RPG by only fighting boss. Every fight will be rewarded with EXP and later on, can be used to upgrade the character.  However, if it’s just that, the poor souls that lost in planning battle will die in vain.

Our game will have theme like Princess Maker games with five endings and Visual Novel like story telling.

We’ll use flash this time. New thing that we never used before.

In the meantime, while we’re writing this, the writer caught a cold, the artist nowhere to be found, and the programmer is a dead man.

Things look good for us, I hope.

Smash Hit Demake for MINILD – 50 : My first entry

Hi guys,

It feels great to have you guys around making awesome games and sharing your experiences. Me, I’m Monster Brain (!realName), an indie game developer from india. I missed last LD, looking forward to the next. Meanwhile trying to come up with a Smash-Hit (loved the game so MUCH) demake. I’ve seen the previous blog post of another smash hit demake (it looks cool with pixelated graphics).

Here’s a little work in progress.

smashHitDown

I’m using As3, Starling, Flashdevelop and Nape physics for the game. Shattering the glass was the hard challenge i had to face, somehow with the help of voronoi diagrams (thanks to an excellent library by alan shaw & example model by its haxe ported(from another port) guy), got it somewhat right. Hoping to make some interesting levels.

Preview of game “Explorer Run”

Hey guys, I’m going to demake Temple Run. Here’s a preview of the character:

Sorry if it might be a little small 😛

Craptains Log II : The Opponent

aceofclubs_screeny3

Suprise! Instead of having two players on the same keyboard, Ace of Clubs now has MuLtIpLaYeR NeTwOrKiNg! It’s not that hard, actually (at least in BlitzMax). Anyways, it’s only compatible with two players (because I’m lazy, but this may be changed soon). You can place and delete blocks, though currently deleting blocks crashes the game. Even though there’s a lot done on the gameplay front, I’ll still need to add a few things behind the scenes (you can’t change which IP and port you’re using).

Mini Dare – Demakes… Can you guess what I’m making?

I am very early in the process and likely won’t submit until next weekend… but can you guess what I’m making?

Hmmm…. could it be Super Smash Bros?

MiniLD 50 progress

So I was bored this afternoon, and I read about MiniLD 50 a few days ago, so I decided “Why should I not participate?”. So I started coding and stuff, things came after things, and got a pretty cool idea and some pretty good code. I decided to create a Call of Duty game with the name of “COD 9000”. It is supposed to be a parody of the game, with VERY simple 3d graphics. I took a look into LWJGL’s 3D (for like the third time in my life) and started coding the game. I made a pretty unbelievable performance, I am finished with most engine things in like 4 hours(!!!). That includes lighting, models, collision detection, shaders, stuff like that. Now I’ll be headed to writing a story, than modelling.
Here are some pictures of my performance, although the map you’re seeing is just a test model, it is nothing like COD yet :( :)

MiniLD 50 Resident evil 2 Demake

I always wanted to make a kinda resident evil ps1 game, so this is my oportunity to make it one.

Game will finish when you enter the police station or If you die.

Game characteristics:
-Camera: Top down view, I need to test if I simulate static camera or just use normal scrolling.
-All items, and zombies in the right places.
-Menu similar to the game.
-I don’t know if i can use the same sound effects of the game, In case not, I’ll try to modificate the original sounds with some filter effect.

Tools:
– Ide: Flashdevelop.
-Language: AS3 or Haxe, If I can compile haxe projects.
-Engine: Flixel or Flashpunk if I use AS3, HaxeFlixel if I use Haxe.
-Graphic: Photoshop and GraphicsGale.

Game development Process:
– First define all the game scope: Number of backgrounds, Number of zombies, have all the map with location of items and enemies.
-Second: Writte all list in Trello.
-Third: Start with game design, and game logic aspect.
-Fourth: Start with basic graphics needed to make the gameplay mechanic.
-Fifth: Code Basic game mechanic.
-Sixth: I’ll define all the other stuff in an online list (Public Trello)

I’ll try to finish in 48 hours, In case I can’t reach my goal, I’ ll still develop the game until reach the initial scope.

Good Luck Janxelod!

Demaking Manic Miner

Manic Miner is one of the earliest platform games.. and probably the first one I played. It was made for the ZX Spectrum in 1983 by Matthew Smith . More info in here.

I’m demaking this mega classic game, as It would have been made in 1981 instead of 1983 using a IBM PC with CGA graphics card (I didnt know this card until the 90’s IIRC). More info here.

I’m using Construct 2, and so far I have first two screens… platform physics is different but good enough to homage this great game…

This is the original…

This is mine…

You can try it here. (cursor to move, Z to jump).

My plan is to add tomorrow:

  • Intro screen
  • Level 3
  • Sfx and bgm

Explorer Run: Updates

Well, day 1 was REALLY successful! I got tons of mechanics in!

If you didn’t know, I’m basing my game off of temple run.

The reason I’m making levels is:

1) It wouldn’t be that fun walking infinitely in the jungle.

2) I’m OCD and love games with levels in them

So I leave you with 2 pictures of 2 levels. Enjoy!

NO THEY ARE NOT NAKED MEN.

Flappy Pong Simulator 1962

So this will be my first game jam. As I  have other things to attend to this week end I don’t think I will be able to finish my demake in 2 days.  But I’ll try to finish it anyway.

So let’s talk about the remake, I’m doing it with unity. As for the game to demake I thought : “Well let’s get the idea to the maximum and demake one of the oldest games”. And that’s how I ended up demaking a pong. Although for now, the demake is only a visual one. By the way, I’m pretty proud of the sprite I did since I’m not really an artist.

At the end I hope to implement the following features :

-flappy paddle: just like flappy bird but with the paddle.

-character hand: a hand you will have to move to use the interrupters. Almost like in surgeon simulator.

-explosive led: led will explode randomly and you will have to replace them using your hand while the game continues.

As for now this is what I’ve come up with.

flappyPong

Hope to get back to work tomorrow.

Tinkermill Team Update

Hey all!  We have made immense progress today!  The basic mechanics of our Fallout 3 Demake are all in.  We got most of the art assets in and the fight mechanics are coming along nicely.  Here’s a teaser of our hero in the vault:

Teaser

That’s about it for today!  We’ll see how far we can get tomorrow.

First entry ever submitted

So, I submitted a “not-actually-demake-but-tries-to-be-retro-style” game. Took me actually less than 48h.

http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/minild-50/?action=preview&uid=28932

Used: Eclipse with JDK7, GIMP, sfxr.

Why did I do this? When I heard about LD, I thought that only “pros” can do a game in 48h. I wanted to take part in December compo, but I had uni stuff to do. However, now I took part in MiniLD and… I’m fascinated. I created a game, simple, but playable (buggy ;d). Even with sounds (I forget about it too often). What’s more, now I have something worth to put into my portfolio (no matter which place I get) ;p. No matter what you create, you train both skills and creativity. (Still I think, I should practice more, by comparing myself to others [very bad].)

(Stuff in bold is about motivation for readers ;p).

What next? Maybe, I’ll port this to JavaME/Android.
