Practice for LD29!

Hello everyone! I made my first timelapse of my first 48h game! I started at friday 4:00 PM and ended sunday 2~3 PM. I have chosen theme from the past competitions of Ludum Dare. Theme I got is “Discovery”.  My game idea is simple. You are explorer, and you discovered a cave with artifacts. Your goal is to collect all of the artifacts, but be aware, it’s not that easy just to go there and pick those artifacts, it’s going to be a long road for you, especially if you don’t have time or you are not self-confident. You need to grind some levels to know how to beat them, I tried to make it as simple as possible and as hard as possible. I didn’t finished the game exactly, it contains only 5 levels, I wanted to make like 20 or so and there are sprites that are not finished, I left my placeholder sprites! Here are links for my timelapse and the game!

The Hunt grows

Today I uploaded my first Ludum Dare game, under the Theme “demakes”.
It is an demake of Deer Hunter 2013, I call it Pixel Hunter 2014. Here are some  screenshots:

It would be really great if someone could give me some feedback about my game, I wanna be prepared for Ludum 29! 😉

I am in, late

I am going to join this miniLD, it will be my first one. I am creating a demake of pong, although it isnt really a demake. It is a demake in the sense that it is only one paddle and in that way making it less complicated. The goal is to try to survive for as long as possible, while the game gets harder by increasing the ball speed, making the paddle smaller and moving the walls closer. I am going to try to time the soundtrack to the events in the game sort of like in super hexagon. I have set my deadline to tommorow evening since I start yeasterday evening.

Pixel Hunter Update

Pew. With the new version 1.6 of my entry “Pixel Hunter 2014” I added sounds (almost forgot about them!), bugfixes, and a new challenge! I think I left it there. If anyone finds bugs, he can write it in the comments.

Craptains Log III : The Epilogue

Well, the Ace of Clubs project is no more. Kind of. I spent the ENTIRETY of yesterday trying to fix this glitch with terrain manipulation, and could never fix it. Now it’s pretty much too late. Despite the terrain problems, everything else works fine. So, I guess I’ll turn it into a multiplayer deathmatch game of some sort. It may involve jetpacks.

Battle Demake FPS – WIP

Pushing the boat out with this one, combining a few previous bits, but running out of time.  It’s an FPS Demake called Battle.

Day Two… Progress!

Still early phases and I’d guess this puppy will be submitted next weekend as I am almost off to work. However, I’ve included a screen of the current build.

Character and building art is final. Background will DEFINITELY be changed.

Villagers walks around! So does Tom Nook! You can talk to all of them!

Chris decided to announce her MiniLD 50 contribution

This is the story of a woman named Chris.

Chris worked for a game jam on a big website, where she was indie game creator number 427. Indie game creator number 427’s job wasn’t very hard: she sat at her desk in scenic Stalybridge and pushed buttons on a keyboard. Themes came to her through a banner on the website, telling her what buttons to push, how long to push them, and in what order.

In other words…

My game, The Stanly Parable LD Demix, is now posted and ready to be played. As the name implies, it is a demake of Davey Wreden’s indie horror/surrealism/philosophy/mindscrew game The Stanley Parable, re-envisioned as an Inform text adventure.

Raider of Rombs

Finished my entry Link.

I was way too ambitious and thought I would get all the Peru stages demade + mansion. Luckily I did consider that this might be absurd, so I started with the best level, The Lost Valley, and it is complete, more or less. Didn’t have time to really polish the graphics so kind of wish I had went with an even simpler look, but ah well. Also I spent more time than necessary on some things that ended up not even being used in this particular level, like the pushable crates aren’t really necessary..

But it should all work, you can get from the start to finish (the Lost Valley part starts after the initial tutorial caves) and there are three super hidden pieces of the Scion to find.

Smashing into MiniLD#50 – Smash Down:A Smash Hit Demake

smashDownTHumb

Being an enthusiastic fan of Smash Hit, one of the best mobile game experiences i’ve ever experienced till now, (and not to mention the fact that someone here also put up a post of smash hit retro demake), i decided to try my hand in breaking stuff using NAPE physics engine for AS3.

Here’s a little Dev-log of it for those who are interested (i hope to do more tutorial on it in my Blog MonsterBrainInc.)
I’ve previously developed cutting mechanism with Cut-it : Flash Version, and i decided to use it for cutting the blocks into several random pieces. But things didn’t worked out pretty well and the code just grown into un manageable size. SO i scrapped everything and started looking for voronoi stuff (I’ve seen a lot of demo tests, but was too afraid to look into it). After many links deep, links within links, i found some as3 library and one sample stuff. I took the code that just worked well for me (Thanks to the sample codes) & looks good. Next challenge was to break the stuff which involves lot of positioning, head work etc etc. Still i’m happy & proud with the result i’ve achieved. Finishing the Game was the hardest part. All kinds of blocks, disorientation, tiredness, powercut, disinterest etc were active towards finishing the game. But got through all that and finished the game. Enjoy Smashing.

Ring of Legends – We gave up (kind of Postmortem)

This is the first time I don’t submit a game for a Ludum Dare :(

screenshot

I have participated in 3 jams (LD #26 Jam, MiniLD #46 and LD #28 Jam) with a friend and they were fun experiences, at least the first two. This time my friend didn’t want to participate, so I asked another friend for help. We were very excited with the Ring of Legends idea, especially my friend, since League of Legends is his favorite game!

I, on the other hand, like League of Legends but it’s not one of my favorite games (hey, I’m not a Dota guy either, my favorite game is Portal). I was thrilled to make a multiplayer game! Everything was in position, I set up a server last week and Skype’d with my friend about the game. We were going to keep it simple, only 6 champions, 4 skills, no items, no inhibitors, no runes, maybe minions and maybe spells. Also, we were going to start on Friday to have the option for 96 hours instead of 72, because it was my first multiplayer game.

Friday, 21 March, 2014

My friend had a few things to take care of before the jam, but we were going to start in the afternoon. We agreed to start at the same time even though we had different things to do (graphics/programming). I was waiting for him until 10:00 PM, I called him and he was playing League of Legends 😛 (he totally forgot the jam). There goes one day :(

Oh, he also made some plans for the Saturday’s morning!

Saturday, 22 March, 2014

We finally started working on the game at about 4:00 PM. I wrote a short post, ran the script for the live screenshots page and started programming :) My friend designed a simple grass tile, the background image for the health/mana HUD and four (!) different versions of Garen. That was the first problem. Every new image was better than the previous one, but even the first one was good for a 72hr jam. I tried to explain that to him, but he wouldn’t listen! He had 72 hours to make about 175 images (96 of them were about champions) and he only made 3 in the first 24 hours. That’s the end of day one.

Sunday, 23 March, 2014

Unfortunately, Sunday was the last day of the jam for us :( I worked until 7:00 PM, I was done with the really core features. Champion movement, health/mana progress bars and of course the world (aka map) of the game. We were Skyping so I asked him if he could send me an image showing the whole game map (with just color filled tiles) to test the map loading / world rendering with the real game map, so I could start working on the multiplayer. He lost about 4 hours trying to decide how many different tiles to use and where to place them on the map. At about 11:00 PM he panicked and asked me to give up :(

It was the first time I don’t submit a game for a Ludum Dare and I don’t like that feeling. I was waiting for this theme (demakes) for a while now :(

UPDATE (2014-03-25): Even though I wouldn’t call it “playable”, I submitted it anyway. You can play it here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/minild-50/?action=preview&uid=22762

Thought, you have until Monday for this jam

Just post it unfinished and let us see ;p

Super Jump Man – My MiniLD 50 Entry

I couldn’t resist entering MiniLD 50 once I found out about the theme.  I ended up with Super Jump Man, a demake of Super Mario 64.  It contains a single, relatively large world, with 7 stars to collect.  It was fun recreating Mario 64 controls/movements in a 2D environment.  The game definitely has its flaws, but I’m quite happy with how it turned out.  Keyboard and Xbox controller are supported.  The Xbox controller is a far better experiences in my opinion.  If you know the move set for Mario 64 (triple/high/long jumps), you’ll pick the controls up easily.  I hope you enjoy!

Inspiration problems

Iv’e been working for a couple of weeks on a game with the intents of putting it up on the android store. I like what i’m working on but some days I just hit a creative wall and stall for a few days before i get back in the groove. Does anybody have any advice on how to keep moving if i get stuck? Thanks.

Yeah … I too felt that kind of wall/block or whatever that you are feeling … Sometimes i feel like scrapping the entire project and start another one. My best advice is to talk to developer if you know them (They really know what you must be feeling), read some articles on the web, Break down your next pending tasks into small ones, tae a small break and make or ‘finish’ some small prototype etc. Hope this might help you :)

DAY XXX

This is how the game looked at the beginning when I was testing out the player and zombie code I had written so far. During the first day. Something that I have learnt from doing this Ludum Dare is how fucking helpful planning is. Having a checklist and planning out code on paper first meant that I actually finished the project for once! I probably should have realized this earlier but better late than never hey:)Zombie movemnt gif

[Obsolete; Thank you, LD!] Need a proofreader to release the game! (and it’s not a lot of text)

Sig.NULL, an upcoming puzzle game by our fellow Ludum Darers SaintHeiser and arrogant.gamer, which is a Hi-Fi remake of Signal (made in puzzlescript), is 99% ready right now, and is now suffering from a certain localization issue. It utilizes phrases in Latin, and we’ve tried our best to get their proper translations (either by finding the official ones or translating to English from the Latin-to-Russian translations), but eventually ended up without much confidence in what we’ve done. I was into fixing SaintHeiser’s, let’s say, eclectic English for ages, and he’s even getting better at it, but lingua Latina is something totally different.

Ludum Dare, I call upon thee! You’re full of people fluent in English, being the essence of modern international game development contests! I hope that this post is being read by somebody who is willing to do a bit of proofreading (actually the full text is not very long at all). If this is about you, please take a look at this document and write a comment to this post about any discrepancies you find (your name/nickname makes it to the credits, of course):

If not, then alas, four months were wasted, we can’t just release Sig.NULL like this.

Naturally Selected 2 brings you a particle overdose!

MLD50 Entry: Natural Selected 2

ns2d-bar

“Left by his team, this marine has been naturally selected to defend his commander from waves of Sulks and Gorgels. He must juggle his natural desire to shoot things with an overzealous jet-pack and resource greedy turrets!”

It has become a whirlwind of particles. And I love it.

Natural Selection 2 is a strange duck; trying to be an FPS and an RTS as the same time. It’s a difficult marriage but a loved one by many. It certainly sucks up my time in more ways than one. Given the level my team is involved with it it was the only choice for a demake.

Our first two man Ludum Jam, but I’ve been hugely enjoying the collaboration. @Flaterectomy did a great job on the art!

Wield the mighty jetpack!

Becoming visible

Hello lovely people.
It’s come to my attention that my profile page doesn’t actually exist despite having several submissions, so this is a generic introduction post to hopefully make it visible.
I apologize for what is basically spam, but the reason i had no posts in the first place is i’ve nothing interesting to say.
You should now be able to check out my previous games though! The most recent was a 2D demake of Dishonored.
Have a good one!

Flappy Pong Simulator 1962 Submitted

So yep that’s it, I’ve submitted something, in the first game jam I did. The game is pretty basic but I can’t help but be proud of it.

It’s a simple demake of pong to which I’ve added the mechanics of flappy bird and surgeon simulator.

You can play it here : http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/minild-50/?action=preview&uid=30088

I really look forward to get your opinions because I only wish to improve.

I’ll try to publish a post mortem later on.
