LD29 April 25–28, 2014

First Ludum Dare Attempt

As this is my first attempt at making a game in an incredibly small amount of time, I will probably be submitting everything to the 72-hour jam. I do not think I could manage the stricter nature of the compo just yet.

As for tools and languages, I am highly unsure what to focus on with my game. I could use Visual Studio for C++, HTML5 and Javascript, or LWJGL/Slick2D. I have Game Maker and Multimedia fusion, but those do not appear to be well suited for this jam. Then there’s Twine. Good old lovely, delicious Twine.

Sounds would be created with sfxr or bosca ceoil while graphics would be handled in Gimp. If any point is going to be a weak point it is going to be my handling of graphics. I have yet to come up with a style I appreciate.

Starting out here for the first time fills me with apprehension, but I am looking forward to flexing my design skills in a way I have not in a very long time.

At this point, I am looking forward to seeing what the theme will be and picking my tools from there.

I’m in !

Hi everyone

So I’m in this LD, it’s going to be my first !

Good luck everyone !

Preparing for my first LD by deleting my history and cleaning my desktop!

So, I’m gonna give my first LD a go this weekend!

Everyone else seems to be covering what software they’re gonna be using.

To be honest though, at this point, my first concern was: I wanna do a TimeLapse of the whole thing, so I need to delete my broswing history, chat logs and anything off my desktop that I don’t want to appear for a split second in a video seen by (no-one) online!

So with that done, I present my first screenshot!

My newly cleaned desktop AND shortcuts to the software I intend to use. I anticipate Hearthstone and Diablo 3 will be used the most.

Edit:

I’m off to a blinding start. I can’t figure out how to embed the image correctly! I’ve got this licked.

Edit 2:

Think I’ve sorted it now!

I find that when I write this post rather than saying “I’ll try to make a game this time around and enter it if I finish” I am far more likely to work!

I’ll probably do some C++, maybe SFML or SDL depending on the theme. I’d love to try and use the Oculus SDK if I have time..

Good luck everyone

Pumped up about the jam!

It’s been already two years since I participated in this jam (here’s Snowglobe Kerfuffle, my ld23 entry) previously and I’m really stoked about the jam again! This will be my third time and I’m almost completely certain that I won’t give up again before I have even gotten started. I guarantee that there will be no excuses this time like “the theme doesn’t inspire me” or the classic “I’ve got more important stuff to do”. Not this time. :)

I’ll be using these tools:
Engine: Unity 3D
Graphics: Photoshop, Mangastudio (don’t judge a software by its name!), possibly Aseprite
Audio: Ableton Live, VSTs (Zebra, Aalto, Kaivo…), hardware synths (Shruthi XT, Korg Volca Keys and Volca Bass)

My plan is to get an entry to a shippable condition during saturday and then during sunday concentrate on polishing and adding JUICE.

First Time!

My first time…quite excited to join… I am gonna use these

Phaser Game Engine — http://phaser.io/

Eclipse IDE…my favourite :)

Inkscape

Sound — sfxr

I’m in for the 4th time!

Language: Java
Library: libGDX
Tools: Eclipse, Pyxel Edit

Learned a lot from the previous entry. Let’s make something awesome!

Guess I’m in again.

Hey all. CNIAngel. I make games. I don’t know how many LDs I’ve done in the past but they never turn out good 😛 Gonna keep doing Ludum Dare tho. So good luck everyone.

Tools:

Code-Eclipse/LibGDX/Java

Art-Aseprite

Music/Sfx-Audacity/SunVox

Good luck to you too:)

I’m in

My third time in, but it will be my first time not working with a group. I hope to finish something for the 48 hour competition, but I’ll do the jam if I fail that.
I was too nervous not to use a codebase, so I’ll be using one I just whipped up (hopefully it won’t hurt more then it helps).

“Engine”: https://github.com/hitchh1k3r/JavaGameEngine
Graphics: Inkscape, Photoshop
Audio: Bfxr, Abundant Music, VLC, Audacity

Goal: Finish something that at least one person would call a game ^_^

Good luck everyone!

Here I come, for the first time.

Let’s see if I can get anything done.

I know it’s a bit late, but here’s my warmup game http://squaredcodes.com/data/ComingThru/ComingThru.html

Quite basic, but at least Unity and I get along. Most of the time.

I’ll also be on twitter @igwbx and might do some streaming on twitch, not sure about that yet.

Unfortunately I’ve got school on Monday… Probably gonna sleep there.

Hi all,

This is my first game jam ever, but hopefully not the last. Hopefully I will survive.

Tools:

– Unity3D
– GIMP & Aseprite
– sfxr
– http://www.abundant-music.com/

First Dare!!

Hi Everyone,

It seems that alot of people are doing this so here is my planned setup:

-Slick2D and Java (or LWJGL if i feel an idea may benefit).

-sfxr

-GIMP

As a first time dare, should i think about doing blog updates or should i just concentrate on the game?

(Bearing in mind i may end up a little short on time)

I’ll try to get a game done for the compo, but i’ll see how it goes.

Good luck to everyone else!!! :)

I’m in! (Mostly).

I tried my best to reserve the whole weekend but alas it wasn’t possible…

Still, I’m going to give it a bash with the time available, and try something completely different. It will be my 7th LD in a row… the last 6 were all 2D Java games based on Slick or libgdx and my custom game library which I extend every time. So this time:

  • Unity / 3D! (target the web player I guess). Probably go with C#
  • Try to write a bit of music, > 10 seconds, to go with it (OpenMPT or Ableton Live)
  • No preparation!

What could possibly go wrong?

I’m in!

This is the second time i try ludum dare, i hope it will go well.

I will use:

Language: Java

Libraries: processing or Java2D for graphics, jbox2d or self-made collision detection library

Editor: Eclipse

Graphics: Photoshop

Audio: sfxr and, maybe, FL Studio

GL&HF everyone!

I’m a sweet potato

I’m in!

I’m in for LD29! This will be my fourth LD and my third doing the jam.

Tools

  • Unity3D (with my tiny tiny bootstrap repo: https://github.com/thekidder/2d_unity_bootstrap)
  • BXFR
  • Photoshop
  • Maybe some others!

I’ll be jamming in this LD with @crimsonzen and @lilisliph.

First tiem for everthing

Never made a game before by myself, don’t even know how,

but what the hell,  if not now, then never.

I have no idea how unity works, maybe I can figure it out this weekend.

If I do figure it out, I’ll try to post something to the web with it.

ALRIGHT

Simply gonna try.

This is the first time I’m gonna try.

Unfortunatelly, I have only some 25 hours available, and third of that I’m gonna be sleeping.

But hey, I’m still gonna try. Something simple for starters. Maybe a logical game or something.

Unity3D, C#, Blender, Inkscape and what not.

I´m in!

I´m in! Again! Looking forward to a weekend of fun, creativity, sleep deprivation and coffee, oh so much coffee… Let´s rock and roll!

My setup is pretty much the same as last times with GarageBand being the only addition.

Language: Java
IDE: Eclipse
Librarys: Libgdx, Artemis, Box2D, Box2DLights
Music and sound: GarageBand, SunVox and sfxr
Graphics: OmniGraffle, Paint.net, ASESPRITE and Tiled

Good luck and have fun to everybody!
