LD29 April 25–28, 2014

Penagwin Engine

I am releasing my current as is engine that I have ben working on in java. It uses LWJGL for the graphics.  The master branch is the engine as of now(Commit 2).

https://github.com/Penagwin/GameEngineP

I’m in (6th time)

Entering for the sixth time in the Ludum Dare compo. LD23, 26 and 27 finished up with complete games, the other two entries failed due to time issues. I always feel like I get the best ideas and make the most progress during the April LD, so I’m exceptionally excited this time.

Tools of my trade: (slight changes this time)

Code and Distribution

  • Three.js (used to do Python + pygame, changed it up a bit for a challenge)
  • If anyone cares, the basic frame javascript I will use as a 10-minute headstart
  • Sublime Text 2
  • Dropbox
  • Possibly some better form of final game distribution

Graphics

  • GraphicsGale Free Edition for the ultimate pixelation of wonderful art.
  • GIMP
  • Photoshop

Audio

  • My own voice, where needed (proved really useful in LD27)
  • BFXR
  • FL Studio 11 demo version (hardcore mode, no project files, one sitting. P.S. no BSOD please)
  • Audacity
  • GreaseMonkey’s autotracker.py (swag beatz)

Utilities

Battlestation

That’s pretty much it. I’ll be sitting on the IRC channel and streaming most of the event.

Good luck everyone, and remember to have fun!

Hello,

Hello guys, this will be my first Ludum Dare

I plan to use:
Construct 2
Photoshop and Corel Draw
SFXR

Entering for the second time

Our team is excited participating in the jam once again.

Tools will probably be Unity, Gimp and Garageband.

Dinner tonight will be Chinese food, delivered straight to the door.

Sleep schedule TBD.

Good luck everyone! See you on the other side. :)

Pre-LD29 code post

Per the (newly rewritten) rules of the competition, I am posting a link to the code that I have already written in preparation for Ludum Dare 29. It is freely available on my Github at: https://github.com/Freezerburn/ld29-engine

Please note that it probably isn’t that great. It’s mostly a light shim over SDL2 so that some functions can be used from Lua. I’ll likely be modifying it slightly during the competition to add support for some things, such as sound. Right now it will only work on OS X, and should generate a nice standalone app which will “just work”. It statically links in all SDL code, and the xcodeproj declares all the dynamic libraries it needs to link against. (which should be available on all distributions of OS X, as they are super common libraries/frameworks) main.lua is the starting point, and all you need to do is add logic in there, or add some more Lua files into the “lua” group in Xcode which you can require. Don’t touch the topmost line of main.lua, as it sets the path that Lua will be looking for source files to require.

I’ll be updating the code after the end of Ludum Dare to also be able to build for Windows. I need to be able to release my game for Windows so people can actually play it :)

Im In!

This will be my first attempt at an HTML5!

I’ll be using phaser.io, typescript, photoshop, visual studio, bfxr, something for music… GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!

Ready to go!

Actually going for it this time! Got Unity fired up and a supply of coffee at the ready.

Software I’ll be using this time:

  • Unity
  • Adobe Fireworks
  • Maxon Cinema 4D
  • Probably SFXR

Good luck!

I’m in ! first time compo

Hi everyone !

I’m in, and alone this time. I’m game designer, PhD student at TAG lab Concordia University (in Montreal) and usually, I work with Mathilde (graphic designer) and sometimes alexandre (sound designer) in the JAM, so it’s my first LD compo.

Some of past LD entries of our collective:

http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/author/sylvain-p/

Tools I plan to use :

CODE : Construct 2 (I’m not crazy)

SOUND (if I have time) : BXFR+Audacity+Cubase+freesound.org

ART : … well … is it necessary ? PowerPoint 2010?

Good luck to everyone.

Im sorry to being a troll, but in compo you arent able to use pre-made content… I say that ’cause “freesound.org”.

Declaring my library

If you are still looking for a library to use right now, you are in some trouble. In the case that you are, here is the library I have been working on the past 24 hours. While it is not done yet, but I will be updating it as I make changes throughout the compo. The library is here and you can watch me continue to work on it and my game on my twitch stream.

The library is written in java and is meant to be a barebones handler of graphics and input, although it is not finished yet. Good luck  programming and may the odds be ever in your favor!

Hey captain, I’m ready!!

I’m “almost” ready for this jam!!

This’s my 4th LudumDare (see also yettatore), and I learned a lot from the first time!
See games: 1st, 2nd, the 3rd I wasnt enable to finish… In this time I will finish my game!!

Trade of tools:

  • Language => Perl / SDL
  • Editor => gVim
  • Graphics => Cool GIMP
  • Audio => Ardour
  • “Synth” => Casio CTK-5000
  • Drums => Hydrogen
  • SO => ArchLinux / LXDE

Happy LudumDare to everyone!!

Awesome! :-) See you on skype!

First time!!

I don’t know enough to know what I’ll be using other than Unity.  Thanks and have fun!!

Well, let’s ludum dare again!

Alright, it’s near to 2 am over here in Germany, I just did most of the weekly exercises-that-are-normally-done-during-the-weekend for the university, it’s something over an hour until theme announcement, and I finally decided to take part again!

This is somehow unexpected, I thought it would be like the last times, no time etc. But hey, it should work this time! Unlike my last Ludum Dares (#24? #25? or so) this time I will use JavaScript (and HTML5 canvas) instead of XNA, mostly because of the easy deployment of JS games, because it works on every platform and because I recently switched to Linux. (I was testing it and never went back… 😉 )

I could even stream the programming, even if not many may be seeing it, who knows.

So let me take some eight hours of sleep, and then… let’s program!

I’m (probably) in

Unless the theme is really terrible, that is. I intend to make an entry in HTML5, and use anything from my personal Github repo; mostly my JS toolbox at https://github.com/julienq/flexo.

Je suis dedans!

hum 6-7 th jam ? This time it’s alone, it’s been a while :)

Java game with Slick 2d

IDE : eclipse

Arts: Mspaint, gimp and/or Gale ?

Sounds : Audacity, sfxr

Other : Tiled(map editor), Chronolapse(timelapse), Kanboard(kind of todo list)

Lets have fun :)

Interesting to see you decided to use a Kanban board for a project like this, especially since you’re working alone. Since this is my first time I don’t know how well I’ll be able to keep things organized, but I might keep it in mind for next time. :p

My First Go!

First go at Ludum Dare, pretty excited!

Ill be using my most well known programs:

  • Unity (C#)
  • Photoshop/Hexels
  • Logic Pro X
  • Blender (potentially)

And Palette Fuck, which I just discovered today.

Good luck!

I am in : )

I am very excited about this Ludum Dare : D

Tools:

Code:AS3 using FlashDevelop with the FlashPunk library.

Art:Paint.net.

Sound:as3sfxr.

Good luck and have fun everybody,hope everyone will finish their game and will be happy with their creation : )

Compo & starting code

Because I’m amazing and everyone cares about what I post, I should clarify that I’m entering the COMPO, not the Jam. I made a typo in my previous post (yowza!), and edited it to reflect this.

I suppose now is also a good time to post the slightly-tweaked version of FlashPunk I’ll be starting with. It’s not much, but I may as well make it public lest it causes a problem down the line.

It’s been a while…

I’ve got time this weekend to spend on game dev. Rejoice!

Code: Haxe, HaxePunk (ai and tmx libraries too?)
