LD29 April 25–28, 2014

Im in Yay!!!

Im in!

Tools we will be using:

Java2D / Lwjgl

Paint.NET / Photoshop / Illistrator / Flash

Computer

Git

Eclipse

My state machine is ready

I just finished writing my own state machine in Dart.

Dartisians can grab it here:

https://github.com/StrykerKKD/GameState

It’s pretty basic, but works(except for one bug) . It uses streams so you guys can be as asynchronous as you want. It contains a small example.

It’s 02:00 here, so i will sleep in the first few hours. 😀

I’m in!

I suppose Ludum Dare is about to start, so before the site crashes, it’s probably better for me to make my first post for this edition!

This time around my focus will be learning – I’m going to use Unity, which is not something I’ve used a lot, and probably some of my Unity code like usfxr for dynamic audio generation and some of the shaders and code I wrote for dynamic generation of flat-shaded meshes with fake occlusion. I’ll probably create some kind of tile-based, isometric kind of game, but I’ll wait until I know the theme so I can decide for sure.

Good luck to all!

First Jam

After managing to grow my team to 4 people, we’ll be entering together for our first LD game jam!

Team
Code Monkey:
Myself (Zach W.)
Supporting Code Simian / Consultation: Patrick R.
Art: Cindy N.
Design / Brainstorming: Chris B.

Tools
Engine/Language: Unity / C#
Graphics: Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator
Sounds/Music: Not sure… Audacity + something else, I imagine.

We’ll up posting screenshots and progress as we go. Looking forward to getting to it!

Greetings

I just heard about this contest an hour ago and have never made a game or entered a contest like this, so I’m really not sure what to expect. Hopefully the theme will provide a flash of inspiration that persists for 48 hours!

The Real Guide to Game Jams

The Real Guide to Game Jams:

What you hear from most people is just BS. Here are the secrets from thousands of Game Jammers all over the world.

Sleep: Sleep is completely unnecessary. You only have 48 hours, don’t waste them. Project scope is too big? Fuck it! Just get no sleep and push through. Hours of debugging, squinting at compile errors, clouded cognition; these trade offs are all well worth a few extra hours in your game.

Food: Did you know the human body can survive up to three weeks without food? So whats 2 days? Keep chips and salsa at your side and tank through. If you are to eat, get fast food. This way you won’t waste time cooking, and can get right back into your work.

Alcohol: Oh yes. Its proven science, haven’t you seen the data: https://xkcd.com/323/ ? Be sure to count your drinks carefully and ride out the Balmer’s Peak as long as you can. That way, maybe your game can hold a candle to Windows Me.

Project Scope: Go big or go home. Take what you think you can do in 48 hours and make it three times more ambitious. This will not only make your work stand out, but setting ambitious goals will motivate you to work harder. Even if you do end up with an unfinished game, you can look at the polished, simple projects that were finished and say: “At least i’m not a bitch; I tried to do the impossible. Did you?”

And there you have it! Best of luck in LD #29!

*This guide is based off the most common Game Jam strategies followed by Jammers all over the world. Their success remains unknown…but there is strength in numbers, right?

Code base and whatnot

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/34994455/LudumDare29%20Codebase.zip

Using C#/SFML, GIMP for graphics, probably bfxr for sound, probably Wolfram Tones for music, Audacity for something perhaps maybe?…and that’s probably it. Also will be streaming at http://www.twitch.tv/aneeslol, woohoo!

I’m in for the LD48 compo

First Ludum Dare. I’m at the Sony gathering in Lund, Sweden.

I’ll be coding in C/C++ in the Qt framework.

I’ll be basing my work on a personal library that can be downloaded here:

https://github.com/daniel-fairchild/QtGame

The above isn’t quite finished and/or feature complete, but will serve as the starting point for whatever I end up with closer to the deadline.

First Ludum Dare

Kinda confusing, but I’m slowly working this all out.
Taking time out of my indie dev schedule to do the 48 LD.
Not going to be too difficult I think, permitting the theme is something I can work with.

Hoping at the end of this I’ll have something I can continue working on and release/sell.

What tools I’ll be using:

Code: Construct 2

Art: (Depending on the task at hand) Photoshop, Spriter, Hexels, AutoTileGen and/or Maya.

Sound: Audacity, as3sfxr (Don’t really know, an alien task for me)

Going to try and stream on Twitch. (Be prepared for music from Depeche Mode and such haha)

Good luck all.

First Ludum Dare

I’ve watched streams of this several times and now I’m finally doing one myself. Although I won’t be able to use all of the time due to other commitments, I will try my best.
