LD29 April 25–28, 2014

My template is up and running!

I got a template up and running to make sure I can get phaser up and running (and so I don’t spend forever just stetting up my environment.)

It’s roughly based on the http://codevinsky.ghost.io/phaser-2-0-tutorial-flappy-bird-part-1/ flappy bird tutorial, which I HIGHLY recommend.

The main thing is getting Google Web Fonts loading into Phaser. Phew, that was kinda tough!

Right now it’s still using some assets from that tutorial, which will be ripped out as soon as the compo starts.

Feel free to use my template — the JS source is easy to find :)

Here is my template!

Starting Codebase

I don’t know if I’ll be able to contribute to this LD because I’m in the middle of a move. But I’ll be damned if I don’t try!

amy_ld29

Just in case I do make something, here’s the codebase I’m using to start. It’s a first-person character/game controller I’m building up from project to project. (Unity.)

If you want to see the kind of stuff I do, check out my games page here.

Math library

This is the math library that I made, and I am going to be using it from now on. It can do stuff like:

  1. Transform 4D vectors!
  2. Make 4D transformation matrices!
  3. Get the inverse of 4D transformation matrices!
  4. Be documented by javadoc!

Excitement!

LD 29 time

Woohoo! My lovely lady has agreed to look after our 1 year old son for the majority of the weekend so I can dare to ludum! (I’m otherwise a stay-home Dad so a whole weekend to geek is luxury!)

I’ll be using Unity3D and my personal sub-challenge will be to use my Unity Asset Store assets that I’ve previously bought but never used — many purchased in the Daily Deals (I’m a bit of an addict). A quick count suggested I have 82 assets (including everything from textures to voxel engine, Arduino integration to audio response!) Another rough count suggests I’ve used about 20 of these to any extent! I’ll probably set up a timelapse (if my aging laptop will handle it) so you might get brief intros while I cram in quite a bit of learning en route!

I’ll be attempting to compete in the 48 hour competition (so no textures, etc nor collaborators) but, if time gets short or inspiration so drives, I’ll fall back to the Jam. I’ll post which ones I’m using / I’ve used later / at the end.

Haven’t decided whether to target mobile or desktop nor whether to assume throw-away or hope for future funds. Guess we’ll see how it goes and what people think.

Right 1 hour until theme announcement (at 2am BST) so I’ll look forward to finding out in the morning (or, more likely, when awoken by a crying toddler around 4am)!

Good luck everyone — happy jamming!

May the bugs be ever in your favour!

w00t more dads! Thank you families for your support!

I’m in.

Here’s to a great Ludum Dare!

I’m excited. This is only my second Ludum Dare, and even though the last one didn’t end too well I’m ready to try again! Here’s a link to the GitHub repository I’ll be committing to throughout the weekend, if you want to follow me! https://github.com/snoozbuster/ld29

Let’s do it

Hell, maybe I’ll actually finish a game.

Code will probably be based off of this repository (the game may or may not end up including the car). We’ll see what happens from there.

Third Time’s The Charm I Guess

Only one hour(ish) to go but here’s my obligatory declaration of participation post for what’s going to be my 3rd LD.

Going to try and submit for the compo again but this time, if I feel that my entry needs some extra polish then I’ll submit for the jam instead.

Likely Tools (sorta copied and pasted from my last post because I’m lazy):

Language: C#
Engines/Frameworks: Unity (2D Mode to be specific)
IDE: Monodevelop Visual Studio (because Monodevelop likes to break. A lot)
Art (aiming to make something that’s not simple shapes despite lack of skill in the drawing department): bvanschooten’s Random Sprite Generator, Paint.Net, maybe Inkscape
Sound and Music: bfxr, autotracker with schism tracker, otomata/circuli, audacity (for general cleanup).
Misc: Notepad+pen (for jotting down ideas as well as going through problems step by step in case things go wrong)

I’m in.

A game will be created in this weekend. Hopefully it’s going to be enjoyable to play.

Tools-

Art: Pixelmator, Pixen, iDraw

Music/Sfx: Musagi, PxTone, Audacity, GarageBand, Sfxr

Game Toolset: Stencyl

Here we go!

I’m excited to be in this one!

I’ll be using MonoGame for this one.

I’m also going to be using MonoGUI, which is a GUI library for MonoGame that I’ve been working on for the past 8 months.  It’s still a complete mess as I’m working through things, but I’ve developed it lock step with several different projects, and it’s working well.  The repository for it can be found here: https://bitbucket.org/henrylisowski/monogui

I’m in for LD 29.

All set. Ready to go. Almost…! Tossing up between Haxe/Flambe and Java/Libgdx as each have their strong points. Coffee has been imbibed. Good luck to all involved!

ininin

Using Unity. Depending on the theme and my idea I’ll probably be using some pre-existing scripts to draw chunky pixels.

Here’s a pretty unhelpful page with links to the scripts and custom editor, but in the off chance someone wants to use them after the jam feel free to ask for instructions

I’m joining!

So this will be my first time competing! I’m thinking it will either be a platformer or a tile based game… I’ll know when I start Programming it!

I haven’t ever done much collision wise, I’ve always just avoided shapes that didn’t have a radius… also Media isn’t really my thing so no promises there! I’m hoping to use AABB’s for collision, this is an easy algorithm and I think I can implement it swiftly.. Hoping to have some fun particles and some basic physics :)

Good luck my mates.

//Matthew Hirdler

//The tools I will be using:

Eclipse;

Java;

Gimp 2.0;

Audicity;

Probably some OpenGL

Warmup: Breakout

I wrote a really simple breakout clone for my warmup

https://github.com/jrkirby/LD29_warmup

I’ll probably use the loader.js as prior code.

Probably In and Starting Codebase

Okay, it’s up from possibly to probably.

My starting codebase is at https://github.com/swizzcheez/ld29/tree/pre-ld-setup (slight tweaks may yet occur, but that tag will show what I started with).

My code will be here https://github.com/swizzcheez/ld29/tree/master

And my product will be here http://swizzcheez-ld29-new.appspot.com/

(and possibly elsewhere if I decide to get a domain name for it)

BTW, my last entry (from last year’s minimalism) is here in case anyone wants a blast from the past…

C# / C++ / Unity Programmer Looking for existing team

I’ve never done a Ludum dare, but I went to school for game development and I’m currently a C# software engineer.  I would like to contribute to an existing team and help them build their idea.  I can be available for Saturday and Sunday, but not Monday.

Email me if you’re interested: GregStefanakis@yahoo.com

Good luck, have fun!

i’m going with the dimension flip. (4 hours ago)

got the  dimension-flip mechanics  working.

now add the fun factor

I’m in.

I’m in for LD#29.

Can only do the 48 hr jam b/c I have to work on Monday.

ill be using Unity, Blender, Max,Gimp, Audacity, an MS-20i, Sublime Text 3, and MonoDevelop.

the themes doing well in the voting look pretty awesome, so I am hoping this will be an interesting side project for the weekend from my unnamed and not-quite-announced game that I’ve been working on since January.

also looking forward to playing and rating some of the cool games you all will be making.

happy weekend!
