Basecode (And excuse for it being so late)

I was sick all this week (still am a little bit) and was camping before then, so that’s why I’m so late getting my basecode up.

It’s also quite unfinished.

Mainly just boilerplate stuff and wrappers around GL types.

/in?

Do I have to write a post like this to join? This is my first time doing an LD. I have maybe two hours to make a game and I’m starting from scratch using Unity, or PHP, or Photoshop, or whatever, depending on what the theme turns out to be.

I’ll spend 30 hours thinking, then I’ll spend 2 hours making a game.

I’m in! Let’s get this party started!

This is my first Ludum Dare. Less than a half hour to go, and I’m stoked! I’ve participated in game jams before, but most were much longer.

48 hours is going to be intense, but I’ve stocked up on the essentials: Junk food, caffeine, and beer. My goal is to make something tremendously dumb that’s hopefully also fun to play… but mostly dumb. I’m going to be working in Unity with my trusty old standby from the asset store: 2D Toolkit. I’m kind of on the fence about also using AutoTileGen, it seems cool, but it’s also horribly broken in some crucial ways. I guess we’ll see what the theme inspires.

Anyway, enough rambling….

Im in

Declaration of intent: Going in for the compo again, this time using pulsar lua, which is still in beta found at

http://retrogamecoding.org/board/index.php?topic=269.0

its the next level of EGSL which I used for my last 2 entries, but adds some features and hardware acceleration. If you are like me and like writing in lua, but dont  warm up to love 2d’s “every freaking thing goes to a callback” and are more comfortable with just plain ol procedural style of programming, I suggest you check either of the above out.

  • Graphics = the gimp 2.6
  • Sound FX = Bfxr
  • Music = either atrk-bu.py (a “music” generator script published here some number of compos ago) along with modplug to edit, or if I have time to make my own bosca

Will be doing a timelapse using chronolapse

Thats the plan for now, if the theme and my thoughts point to something fairly simple I may go retro … thinking Apple II, maybe MS-DOS, maybe 68k mac … Ill update (and everyone will be on the edge of their seat right?) if that comes about.

I was going to post a desk photo, but its got a lot of junk and the flash showed me some gnarly dust bunnies I need to clean up on the edge next to the wall so … yea not going to post that, and the first thing I do after this is done is drag this thing from the wall and wipe everything down (shame too cause I recently got a really nice monitor I wouldn’t mind showing off)

Dev Machine Specs:

since this seems to be a thing this round here we go, not a bleeding edge top of the line machine, but it plays all current games at 1080 maxed out without hardly a jitter, so I be happy.

AMD FX4170, 4.2Ghz quad core

8GB DDR3 Ram @ 2.2Ghz

AMD Radeon HD 6870 (1GB GDDR5)

my nice new HP 23 inch LCD, great contrast ratio and MATTE screen (down with the glossy!)

my wife ran the model M keyboard out of the bedroom a few LD’s ago, so I got a lenovo … which is not as good as even the older late 90’s early 2000’s IBM keyboards *shrug* ge mouse I bought at the grocery store at some point cause its ps/2 and I have a few ps/2 machines. finally some generic china drawing tablet. Its actually just as good as the old USB model wacom I had (like 1998 old) besides it takes a battery for the pen its price is perfect for the 4 times a year I use it (LD)

Previous LD attempts:

another thing thats more popular these days is screens of previous games: so here they are, dont bother playing them, they are mostly bad … I am not a game programming guru, I just enjoy the challenge

LETS DO THIS!

I’m in (a team)!

It’s been one year since my first Ludum Dare, and I’m excited to enter the contest once again, this time as part of the Bl@ckDuck Java Team, represented by Fudge_Supreme.

It’ll be interesting to compare the Jam with the Compo, and see what new challenges arise and opportunities appear when you’re part of a team as opposed to working alone. Good luck to everyone!

Two weeks ago, I didn’t think I’d be doing this jam; not enough energy after the International Space Apps Challenge.  But since then I’ve gained a ton of mental and emotional energy through the process of getting over my first notable bout with indie discouragement and frustration, so today I declare, “Let’s do this!”

I don’t know what toolset I plan on using yet; I’m gonna see what ideas the theme generates when it rattles around in my head.  But most likely I’ll go with HTML/JavaScript/CreateJS as I did with Ludum Dare #28.  I’ll likely also pilfer miscellaneous framework code from my entry for #28, Inversionaut., as well as anything out of a couple of humble prototypes on my own site (colony simulator, 4X space strategy)

To the pain fun!

Let’s make some video games!

I’ve been looking forward to this for a while now. I’m almost certainly going to do this in Javascript again. Depending on complexity, I might end up ripping bits out of my GGJ game, Ham-3R. (Specifically, the client/Common.js, and if I’m feeling ambitious, the joystick stuff from server.js).

Unlike the last LD48, I know about it before Saturday afternoon, so I’ve got a little more time. Maybe this time I’ll make a game that people can understand how to play… And, since I got twitch streaming working, the pressure’s on this year.

Good luck to everyone!

I’m In.

Hello!  This will be my first ever LD, I have no idea what I am doing yet.  I think I’m supposed to make an “I’m In” post because I see a lot of people doing that.

I’ll be learning a lot of everything during this.  Will be using Flashpunk Actionscript 3 library, which is publicly available here: http://useflashpunk.net/

Will be using FL Studio to write music if I have time to figure out how to put music in.

Looking forward to learning everything I need to know within 48 hours.

Same goal as always… don’t not finish

Forgot if I have to check in or not, so I’m playing it safe.

This is my 2nd LD and 4th or 5th jam.  I have a bad habit of getting caught up in minor details and running out of time before I get to the meat of the game.  So my main goal as always will be to finish something and focus on the substance, not the polish.

Tools:  Unity, PS, Blender, Audacity, sfxr

Participating

This is my first Ludum Dare, and I’ll be using Unity3d or Phaser. There’s a lot of fun stuff going on this weekend so I might not have the resolve to finish.

I’M IN

Second ludum dare

I’ll be using Flixel library, graphicsgale(for the graphics) an maybe famitrack (if I Get time to use it)

good luck to everyone 12 minutes to start

Team Shibui’s Workspace. Ready to go!

I can already tell your game will not be lacking in music.

We’re In

Same team as before, myself, Joe and bartbes using Love, Photoshop, Reason, Sublime Text and vi.

I’m In

My First LD.

Tools: Unity, BFXR.

Prep work: Confirmed that github pages will host a build with xbox360 controller compatibility. (Left stick to move.)

Aaaaaand I’m in!

Going to be doing the Jam with a good friend of mine 😀 Using Construct 2 for programming, and probably Paint.NET for graphics. Good luck everyone!

here goes nothing

My first LD. I’ll likely be using Unity, or maybe Love2D. Kinda flying blind here, but I surmise that that’s the spirit of things. GLHF!
