LD30 August 22–25, 2014

All done and uploaded!

Well, here is my entry to LD30!

Visibility is a light-based puzzle game where you must place your lights in efficient ways in order to be able to illuminate a path to the exit. In order to place these lights, you must be in the light realm. Entering into the realm is as easy as hitting space.

This game isn’t as linked to the theme as I had hoped, but I still had fun writing it.

Sounds may not work on Mac or Linux unless you have the required codecs, as they are .wav files.

There isn’t an applet at the moment as Java (and LWJGL) is rather awkward to port to browser without your own website to upload to. Sorry about that.

Entering the Jam

2014-08-25 01_05_44-ld30marudziikWell, so it’s Jam for me.

After spending too much time on not important stuff, I somehow managed to get Twine under control, but the story needs a lot more content to be playable. It’s not going to be something really cool, but at least I managed to implement a simple inventory system and work through some of the scripts I wanted to use. There’s even a simple achievement system in place.

I’m not sure if this will be fun to play, but I did learn a bit about Twine, JavaScript and creating story-heavy games along the way, so I really want to submit it. I’m not going to use any of the relaxed rules, and will enter the Jam just because there’s more time.

Tried to compose some kind of music for my game but it went pretty awful, so I’m not sure what to do about it yet. It seems that knowing how to use a tracker software is really only a very small part of the success. 😛

Congrats to everyone finishing the Compo, and good luck to everyone participating in the Jam!

It’s all Ogre now

I can’t even think right now.

I’m done. I’ve read each e-mail line five hundred times over, but it’s done.

It’s an interesting yet quite challenging game where you have to examine every e-mail, download, and URL scrupulously in order to weed out bad ones. You can’t let a malware-infested program reach one of your computers.

Anyways, I should probably link: Click here for game

I can’t think straight. Have I said that yet?

Black Box Bandit

“You are the Black Box Bandit. You travel through the Interwebs and destroy the black boxes of the Utech corporation’s computer systems.

You do so, because Utech’s firm grip on modern society is unsettling. You do so, because of Utech’s global banning of muffins, your favorite desert, which forced you to the brink of civilized society to satify your muffin cravings.

I am Jack The Muffin Man, the world-renowned human-muffin hybrid and revolutionary. And, you, my friend, are the hammer that will strike at the heart of Utech and bring forth the Muffinpocalypse.”

This was my second LD and I had a lot a lot a lot of fun so that’s good.

Thanks,

Done!… I Guess…

Wizard of the Clix - An incremental game

Wizard of the Clix – An incremental game

Wizard of The Clix has been completed!

Well, it doesn’t have any sound, music or animation yet but mechanics are finished.

I will try to spice things up a bit next 1 hour but I’m not sure I can make it on time so I will submit it anyway in 30 mins I guess.

Here is the end and Constellations is (are ?) complete !

I finally ended this jam successfully, my game is finished, with online score and social sharing.

I made my first steps with LMMS (for the music) now I know I can do something, not awesome but something that do the job.
Obviously I’m still bad as an artist (in 48h).

Hope you all will enjoy my game, check my submission

Dreamshift

I’ve completed my entry, “Dreamshift“:

dreamshift_ss_1

Guide our exhausted hero between the real world and the dream world to solve (simple) puzzles and make it to the exit alive!

There’s only 2 levels of the game currently.  I know I still have about an hour and a half, but at the current time I don’t want to risk breaking something by trying to add a third level.  If people here think I should add more, I may expand it later after the competition.  Feedback greatly appreciated!

Going to sleep, but this is the furthest I’ve been in a LD and I actually have some things accomplished.  Notes for next time / review:

  1. Collision detection: this does not work like on the c64.  Lost some time thinking I could do it that way, but – no, that would be slow IF it worked, which it will not as we do not have hardware sprites.
  2. Math: I am not particularly good at math and need to review some basic things about this, though this was good practice (and I accomplished the math I set out to do.)
  3. Swankypaint works very well for doing the gfx, use it again – easy to mock up, and easy to adapt afterward better.  (Was fun when the red car showed up and I went “holy crap, that actually looks _good_”)
  4. Next time, just assume the theme will suck, take the ones you liked from the suggestion voting, put into a randomizer, and randomly pick that theme at launch. Then apply the sucktastic theme afterward.
  5. The idea of working with a sucktastic theme isn’t so bad, it’s good practice, but then – you have other things to practice.
  6. Do spend more time on this to get collision detection ideas in.
  7. You didn’t get to the Dentistry part, mostly due to the collision detection (which was mostly math issues.)

Ok sleeping, putting this away – may pick it up later and work on it (in particular, the dentistry part probably needs to be done.)

New World. Finish.

Hi all. I have just finished my game.

Hope you will enjoy.

I won’t be posting my game

It’s just too incomplete, this was my very first time attempting to create a strategy game and balancing everything out is an absolute nightmare and I just couldn’t do it to where it felt like a game. It just feels like an incomplete simulator with no pleasing graphics and no sound at all. Overall I just wasn’t inspired by the theme, it was my least favorite in the final round and frankly I don’t see how it got +500 compared to every other theme that got <0, but I’ll definitely see you all next ludum dare. Good luck in the voting periods!

Salvation – Not quite done but close enough?

I’m all out of time. I was frantically trying to fix some last minute bugs and add in some balancing but no luck. I also unfortunately couldn’t add any audio to my game since I didn’t have enough time to mess around with Audio listeners. I submitted an hour early just to be on the safe side.

BUT! I am still pretty happy with my little game, even if it has balancing issues and isn’t completely done. I did it all in 30 hours, excluding sleep breaks.

splashexample SubScreen

The last few things I added were tooltips for things since it’ll be pretty hard to figure out what to build without them. I also added a front end and a splash screen. A little bit of lore in the form of an email. I only submitted a web build for now as I want to add a few fixes before messing around with a PC/Mac build.

Now that the event is all done I can spend some time fixing things :) I’m going to take a break for now though!

Good luck with the odds and ends of your submissions guys!

Finished !

I finished my first participation for the Ludum Dare, and I’m very happy with what I’ve done 😀 ! It  was a great experience, though it was exhausting. I would never have thought that I could work so much in only 48 hours.

Please try and tell me what you think of…

Here’s a little screenshot of the game :

The game has 6 levels. Your goal is to reach the end of each level by jumping on platform and switching between 2 worlds.

No it’s time to sleep. I am so exhauzzzzzzzzzzzzzzsdfgdfg

You and your fleet!

Can’t wait to get all the art assets we have in game! 😀
